    One thing about an eclipse that no one realises unless they have seen a total eclipse of the sun is that it only starts to get recognisably dark at 95 percent totality.

    • @sunsetssweden
      @sunsetssweden  9 месяцев назад +10

      In Mallorca It will be more difficult to feel the darkness since it is 8 minutes before sunset, but the beauty will be incredible. In the north of Spain the darkness will be seen better.

      I was only viewing 90% totality in New York last month and it was visibly less bright around 70%.
      It was distinctly unique from sunset, but I would say it was similar to after the sun sets behind the lowest skyscrapers but before it meets the horizon.

      You might be disappointed to hear the view will be poor from Spain in general, and especially in the Balearic Islands where the Sun will be very low, between 10 and 4 degrees above horizon and thus prone to distortion, refraction, pollution, and possible fog obscuring the view. While it’s risky, I’d recommend considering western Iceland where the eclipse will be happening at a reasonable 25 degrees above horizon, even if the weather may fail you. Because there’s always the 2nd August 2027 eclipse that is a much better reason to go to (southern tip of) Spain, essentially very unlikely clouds and a great angle of 36 degrees.

    • @sunsetssweden
      @sunsetssweden  9 месяцев назад +4

      Thank you! 😊 Im gonna make more videos about the best places from where to see the eclipse in Mallorca since I come from there and I know all could happen. There is an Island of almost 1M people but in the Summer it can be 2M. The places where to see are very few , and they could close the roads due the massive affluence of people,
      Mallorca and Ibiza they are the places with the most chances of clear skies. It is a unique eclipse at sunset, and year later we have another chance with one total eclipse at 2027 at 11am.

    • @sunsetssweden
      @sunsetssweden  9 месяцев назад +1

      August is one of the months with the clearest skies of the year. Mallorca and Ibiza have the most clear skies along the entire eclipse path. Yes, it is true that there is a risk since it is at sunset but I know Mallorca I come from there and I would say is 80% of success in the totality , 70% of success at sunset only 5% of dusty sky. In Iceland the chances clear skies are practically zero.On the other hand, I don't think there will be an eclipse at sunset so beatifull and with son many chances in long time. And there is real chances to see the green flash at the edges of the moon shadow. In 2027 with have another one in August in south Spain at 11am.

      @@sunsetssweden While it is possible the view from Iceland will be fully blocked, usually at least one of the three peninsulas will have a visible view from the coast. I suppose I’ll mull over it still, best of luck in Mallorca or wherever you end up on the faithful day.

    I'm 70 years old, and attempted to see my first total eclipse in Rochester NY last week. All I saw was the underside of some dark clouds. (damn!) Nothing much going on in the USA before my 90th birthday. (May not make that one!) So between now and then there's not much going on that I can access other than this one. Iceland easier to get to than Spain, but it looks like the probability of clouds is at least 50/50 in either place. I may just have to wait this one out...

    • @sunsetssweden
      @sunsetssweden  9 месяцев назад +4

      It is very difficult to predict the weather, but in the Balearic Islands it is quite reliable in summer but it will be extremely crowded and hot 🥵 but no windy(Menorca the least crowded island)
      North Spain more cloudy but I would chose the rivera del duero in Valladolid area. Cheaper , traditional Spanish culture, less crowded, and less cloudy than the north.
      Iceland I would not take the risk with such big cloud coverage chances and the winds. Dont hesitate to ask me for more issues. Good luck for Iceland and Spain😎🇮🇸🇪🇸

    Como español que soy, ni yo me atrevo a aconsejar que zona de la totalidad sería mejor para ver el eclipse. En la zona de la costa mediterránea no se verá el eclipse íntegro aunque si la totalidad, pero es más factible que haga mejor tiempo siempre contando con las típicas brumas , en cambio, en la costa norte si se verá integro justo antes de que el Sol se oponga por el horizonte, pero el clima "suele" ser más complicado. Difícil elección. Yo, aun estando en la zona de la totalidad, seguramente que me desplace a algún punto más alto de la costa, que es dónde vivo. Esperemos para entonces buenos cielos....y despejados!

    • @sunsetssweden
      @sunsetssweden  9 месяцев назад +1

      @65guti es cierto que en el norte de España se apreciaría mas la oscuridad, que en las islas Baleares.
      Ibiza y Mallorca respectivamente son los lugares con menos posibilidad de cielo nublado de todo el recorrido del eclipse. Pero aun asi es una lotería porque el 12/08/23 en Baleares estuvo nublado al atardecer justamente.
      La zona de la ribera del Duero creo que sería una muy buena opción.
      Voy a seguir haciendo videos con muchos mas detalles e hipótesis de los diferentes escenarios posibles.

      Ibiza and Mallorca are the places with less chance of cloudy skies but it is at 8 minuts before sunset that makes it unique , but there is no possibility of movement. In Ibiza arround 30 second totality in Mallorca more than 1 minut. On the peninsula I would choose Valladolid 20-30 minuts before the sunset the area and is less crowded and cheaper and you can move with the car if cheking the clouds if they gonna be on the path.

      @@jt_miami4446 Moving from one area to another by car in case there are clouds. Mallorca has 1 million inhabitants in the winter and at that time there could be 3 million. There are very few optimal places to view the eclipse due to the mountains. Roads will be cut off, it will be a real chaos for those who are not in a good place early on. On the peninsula you could travel with car tracking the clouths if they are in the way and it gonna be 20 min before sunsets so could feel the darkness better. You have to choose between feel the darkness on the peninsula or sunset with eclipse in Balearic Islands. Menorca could be less crowded but there more chances of clouths because the summer stomrs could be form in the end of the day in Cuenca and Teruel.

      It is a fairly high percentage, although the darkness will not be very noticeable. You will be able to see the shadow of the leaves of the trees in the shape of a half moon. I am collecting data on cloud cover in Spain and Iceland. I'll post a new video in a few weeks. Good luck !😎

    If I'm not mistaken there'll be another one in the south of Spain 2027. As the north is frequently rainy and cloudy I think there's a higher chance of seeing that one. There's still Palma, though, but anyway I think I'll be in a better position economically speaking to see that one, as I plan to have already settled in either Spain or Portugal by then.

      Menorca would be a cheaper option to see eclipse plus sunset , but in the peninsula the ribera del duero in Valladolid area is the best option in my opinion , and is near Portugal. Good luck 😎

    应该为这次日全食做准备了,爱好天文二十年有余,成功看过两次日环食和七次日偏食,从未见过日全食,第一次追日还是2008年的日偏食,两年后的2026年日全食就是同沙罗序列2008年日全食的再度重现。是时候为真正去追逐日全食做准备了!西班牙是个热情的国度,能在那里看人生中第一次日全食,一定很美妙

      I wish you good luck in Spain, the 2026 eclipse will be a challenge to find a good place since it is at sunset. But the season is the driest of the year, although summer storms can form at the last hour of the day in the Sistema Bestico in Cuenca a Teruel provinces. There are many reasons to be optimistic.

      @@sunsetssweden First of all, thank you for your blessings. I also hope to realize this dream in Spain. Success or not, Spain is still worth visiting.
      August in Cuenca a Teruel provinces may have good weather due to the Mediterranean climate. But in my opinion, I would rather choose Gijon, a coastal city on the Bay of Biscay. I don’t know if the weather conditions will be better. After all, seeing the sunset with eclipse is very romantic.
      This Saros sequence of total solar eclipses will also end in 2044, and for me, this is one of the few opportunities to see a total solar eclipse in Europe in my lifetime.

      Esta en el límite de que se pueda ver la totalidad o no, por las montañas del oeste. Yo no correria el riesgo. La otra opcion es subir a una cima en donde no haya obstáculos.
      En la comunidad Valenciana Denia es el mejor sitio a nivel del mar.
      Mallorca a estar masificada pero si te organizas con antelación no habria problema.
