My favorite part about Dirnts bass lines is that they never just mirror the guitar, he always adds little hammer-on/pull-offs and other stuff that adds to the grove, he’s my favorite bassist
If you think that ALL bass lines are doing the same as the guitar, you haven't listened enough bass lines, in all songs I play, the bass is doing things completely differents
Best bass cover I've seen of this song on RUclips, and I watched a bunch of them always leaving unimpressed. Everybody else forgets the little fast part at 1:32 and 1:37... that's my favorite part! Fucking nailed it! Keep rockin'!
+Fuzzah97 Wow thank you dude, I appreciate that a lot! :) yeah, a lot of people don't know it's there because it's so quiet in the actual song, but it's such an awesome little fill that I seem to throw in all over the place these days haha. I'd recommend Mark Bull's cover of this song. He throws in that little fill and he just nails the song in general. You won't be disappointed! Thanks for checking it out man :)
This is why pick style bass playing deserves as much respect as fingerstyle playing, each one has its own advantages and suit better in certain genres of music. From a fingerstyle bassist, props to you dude! You totally nailed it!
Thank you for having the attitude that all bass players should have, it's so refreshing to see 🤘🏻 i wish more people would open their minds and realise that learning all techniques is the best thing you can do as a bass player. I love playing fingerstyle too! Thanks for checking it out man, I appreciate it 😊
How is no one talking about the part from 1:43. Great build up, timing and execution. Awesome stuff bro. I keep coming back to this vid amazing cover 👍🏽👍🏽
FallenRiptide I was surprised when I listened to the isolated bass track and heard all the fills and tricks Mike throws in, it's awesome haha. Thanks for checking it out :)
it's like you got sick of people wanting to cover this song and you went all out. ha ha ha. i really enjoyed this! got some matt freeman style to dirnt. when you're bored make more. love it.
dude I love your tones! can't stop listneing haha :) BTW, which bass strings brand/gauge you use? i cask cause i've noticed you tune "up and down" in your videos... I normally used 110's when i tune down to "Eb Standard" but It's easier for me to play with 105's... what do you recommend? thx
+pattonPwr Thanks dude! I don't really use a specific brand, it's just whatever I find online or in store. I think right now I have Fender 45/105's on this bass. I've never tried 110's because they're not as common over here but I'm interested to try them out for playing in Eb. I don't like the drop in tension you get when you tune 105's down to Eb so 110's might be the way to go. For you I'd probably just stick to using 105's, because it's always good to play whatever's easier for you. Try them both out and see which works better. Hope that helps man :)
Awesome cover man! This is exactly why i love mike dirnt. His bass lines are freaking amazing! You absolutely nailed this cover man keep up the good work!
Kick ass cover man! might be a dumb question but do you have any tips on playing the bass slung lower on the body? I feel so stiff playing it right up on my chest haha
+Ezra Engler I'd say just really sit down and practice it. If possible, also try to throw the same type of lick in songs that have a slower tempo. I used to do that with In Bloom by Nirvana and that really helped me get that lick down. Hope that helps dude :)
Hey i'm a guitar player and woundering is it more difficult to play bass or just normal 6 string guitar and i mean like normal playing, green day style songs, powerchords and some harder songs from time to time? Just wanna know what's the feeling of playing bass, cuz i never played it..
+DzoniMyths I play both and I don't think one is essentially more difficult than the other. They just feel different. The biggest thing you'd have to get used to is probably the difference in the size of the neck, strings, body etc. but if you're an average or large sized dude then that won't be an issue at all. The transition from playing guitar to playing bass is fairly easy, I think. Some of Green Day's older basslines are arguably trickier than the guitar parts I'd say (especially songs like Panic Song, Stuart and the Ave, JAR and stuff like that) but in their newer stuff he's just playing root notes the majority of the time so that wouldn't be difficult at all, especially to someone who can already play guitar. I'd recommend going to a guitar store and just trying a bass out, see what you reckon. I hope that helps dude, and thanks for checking it out :)
I'm about to finish building a bass guitar for myself. After that I will surely learn the shit out of these Green DAy lines. Good channel, good mixing. Your covers sound nice.
My favorite part about Dirnts bass lines is that they never just mirror the guitar, he always adds little hammer-on/pull-offs and other stuff that adds to the grove, he’s my favorite bassist
I play bass too and Dirnt is my absolute role model😆
Welcome to punk bass lines, so fun to play
If you think that ALL bass lines are doing the same as the guitar, you haven't listened enough bass lines, in all songs I play, the bass is doing things completely differents
Amanda Blanco tbh it is really common and annoying that bassist just play the root note to whatever the guitarist is playing
3 piece bands only work with a good bassist
Mike Dirnt would be proud. Cheers.
+Michael Ferrari Thank you man! That's very kind of you haha
I play guitar but I'd love to learn bass....looks super fun
I am bass player but I am also interested in playing guitar ! Does it hard ??
+Sushil Ghimire its hard when youre a beginner, but you'll get better with determination. Good luck bro
it's really fun I play bass drums guitar there are all cool trust me
Molliiano you can start practicing by lowering the E string of the guitar
Sounds like a bass
How would that help him play bass?
1:07 That melodic fill is perfect man; not too complicated, not too simple. Could've fit right in the original.
I'm glad you like it dude. I try to do tasteful licks without getting too wanky so that's wicked to hear!
I had to go listen to the original a few times, I thought it was there to begin with. :D
That fill just got me super interested in picking my bass up again
@@CiaranWard awesome cover. The licks are very nice. Changes it slightly from the original

I came for the the bass, i stayed for the Bacardi. you the man bro
Haha, thanks man!

Its all on the type of sound you want. Picking is as much as bass playing as fingerstyle is.
Dude I love your tone.
Thank you dude! I'm glad you like it :)
Oooh tasty fill 1:09ish. Stealin' that :P
Thanks! Haha, feel free
Success hidden in the details.. So many little notes you can barely hear even with headphones makes this cover awesome. Gj dude keep rocking!
How is no one talking about the part from 1:43. Great build up, timing and execution. Awesome stuff bro. I keep coming back to this vid amazing cover 👍🏽👍🏽

+Swizzas Wow, thank you! I appreciate that a lot :)
And I thought I had this bassline nailed down, seems like I still have a lot left to learn. :)
FallenRiptide I was surprised when I listened to the isolated bass track and heard all the fills and tricks Mike throws in, it's awesome haha. Thanks for checking it out :)
Same😂
That was freaking outstanding! Really love your cover!!
Beautiful my dude. Its those extra fills ive never noticed before in the song, that you doing it isolated actually makes the song brand new listening.

Played with about as much attitude and conviction as the limited space would allow. Nice one Ciaran, - well played!
Thanks Gary! I appreciate it 😊
Damn, is all this the original bass in that song or did you add some really awesome fills yourself? This is crazy!

what type of bass is that?
A Squier PJ Bass body with a Fender Precision neck
G&L SB-2 Tribute series ?
There's no such thing as too much compression on bass. I fucking love this.
Everything's amazing in this video. Keep rockin'!
Thank you! I'm glad you like it :)
Omg I’m looking at some of your older videos you’re good 😊. How long have you been playing?

I cant play with a pick!!
Your awesome!!!!
Thank you man! It just takes practice :)
I know how you feel. Everytime I play with a pick it fly's out of my hand. And it's not comfortable.
JT storms009 Try picks with some grip dotty things. Those are great.
Aren’t picks supposed to be easier? I played bass once and i seemed easier than fingering it. Maybe because I’m used to playing guitar. I dunno
New sub!!! Bloody fantastic bass cover!!!
Love it man
bro what a tone, can you tell the EQ and overall settings?
How do u do that? I’ve been trying to learn this song on my bass for forever!
Unbelievably good
+durian uploads Thank you dude!
How did you get that fuzzy tone for your bass?
wow this is the best cover i found
Thank you man!
Hey bro, what pick and strings you used to get this tone?
I use 1.14mm Dunlop Tortex picks and Ernie Ball hybrid slinky strings
Any tips on teaching myself to play the bass? Literally bought one so I could play Greenday songs. Thanks!
If you already play guitar, it’s the same four pitches, E A D G as on the bass strings of guitar, just pitched lower
this is awesome! godlike skills!
I'm not sure about godlike haha! Thank you so much dude :)
