It's been 14 long years until Wolfheart / Before the Dawn mastermind Tuomas Saukkonen returns with his hotly anticipated, sophomore solo-album under the flag of DAWN OF SOLACE. January 24th 2020 saw the Death and Gothic Doom Metal icon release his brand new album, Waves, on Noble Demon. Waves will be taking the listener on a dark trip of melodic doom soundscapes, this is an unchained and exciting affair feeding off of melancholy and progressive rock majesty - an unpredictable mixture soaring to glorious waves!

i heard this as an ad, and immediately, the guitar riff grabbed my attention, because it's gorgeous!
Listened to the whole album. Happy to say it's already solid candidate for my AOTY with Silence as the best song. Hope there will be some European tour. And I mean European. Not western Europe and/or Nordic countries but central and eastern Europe too.

his voice sounds like it's from the new wave era but the music sounds like a sad melodic matal... i love the combination.
such a voice ! In an other video some complains because : no growl .............I can feel this music - brilliant end solo - and voice so deeply : great emotion !
it's not just about the (lack of) growls. its about the fact that this guy does not have the ability to carry the songs alone. he was nice as a second/third vocalist in Black Sun Aeon. singing background vocals and choruses is quite different to doing a song alone. instead of the videos Tuomas could have put the effort to bringing in another vocalist (or a drummer/guitarist/bassist so he could also sing some)
@@demorez5 , I respect your point of view. As a 57' years old gothic/doom/industrial fan I enjoy to be surprised and as Bryan wrote, I fell the same : the singer make me feel the scandinavian atmosphere.
so far on the songs from this album ive heard, his vocal lines are kinda blurring together, same basic melody.
Actually Mikko Heikkilä is a capable lead singer - okay, Kaunis Kuolematon do have Olli doing harsh vocals, but the band that basically mutated into KK, that is, Sinamore, was fully Heikkilä-fronted. IMO the problem is the lack of investment on his part here. He does indeed sing almost the same melody over every track, and doesn't exactly do anything interesting in terms of actual singing - while he can. It's just that it's reserved for his own projects, apparently.

Hey @Noble Demon you could release instrumental/karaoke versions of that sounds so karaoke singers like myself could spread those songs to mixed audiences that can eventually become a fan of that band. Just a tip. Don't know if any recording company has ever thought about that.
