+juniormolina12 First comment that I saw about the actual usefulness of the video. I agree though. Really helpful to understand this stuff. So often the commentators skim over it and never explain it, ultimately making it hard for newcomers to get a grasp on things.
My highschool route tree 0- 5 yard curl 1- 3 step slant 2- 5 yard out 3- 10 yard in 4- 12 yard out 5- 12 back to 10 curl 6- fake 3 yard out route into a go 7- post 8- corner 9- go
The route tree was invented by Don Coryell when he was head coach at San Diego State in the 1960s. Coryell realized it was much easier to get a new player to learn a number than a name. So instead of calling a play "X-post, Y-cross, Z-corner" it could be called "827". As Joe Theismann said when he first started playing for Joe Gibbs (one of Coryell's padawan learners): "If you can count from 0-9 and know left from right, this is easy to learn".
So many of these passes were off target that OBJ had to adjust to. The curl and corner were pretty good passes, I couldn't tell on the post how much was a well-placed pass and how much was OBJ adjusting his route to the pass, but Eli was doing him no favors.
my school does a mini combine and i have no idea why they dont show these videos instead of people running the 40 and doing the bench press and all that
Love these videos! Question, when people say, "he's a good route runner," how do they know? How would the person watching know what route the player was attempting to run? Do they just mean he's good at juking his defender in order to get open?
Good route runners make sharp cuts, they don't telegraph what the route is, and they get open. You can tell by watching when they change direction, the cut is precise and happens right when they mean to change direction (0:51), rather than rounding out the route (ie drifting inside on an in-breaking route before the break). A good cut leads the DB to keep running in the original direction longer than the WR (1:08), or to go the wrong direction entirely (1:54). Additionally, they have to know how to beat the defender who is trying to press (2:12), or to get around the guy who is where he wants to go (1:29)
WOW!!! This is every that I need to know to be a good player and has the mind of a coach. I have two questions that I want to ask: 1) What is a seam route? 2) Do u really have to spin on a stop-n-go route?
A seam route isn't really a route, it's finding the "seam" or hole between zones. So there's no fixed angle or distance. A seam can just as easily open up between the safeties, between a safety and corner, or between linebackers and DBs.
What they actually are 0 route- five yard stop and spin around 1 route- 3 step slant to the inside 2 route- 5 yard out 3 route- 10 yard left turn, straight down the line 4 route- 10 route right turn, straight towards the sideline 5 route- 12 yard back to 10 6 route- 5 yard slant out up the field 7 route- 8 yard slant towards the post (post route) 8 route- 8 yard slant right towards the corner of the field 9 route- straight up the field
It's more probable that Odell ran the route correctly and it was misidentified as a comeback, if you see the way he sinks his hips and looks back to the inside first it just looks like a sort of back shoulder or timing throw tbh
My dad tells me to watch this 5 times a day
Are you still watching this 5 times a day?
no he didn't

ODB's route running is superb.
His cuts and double moves are really good, but in terms of running the route accurately, he is above average.

OBJ is so good! Crazy how people say he is overrated.
So for wheel routes, rub routes, and untraditional routes are there tags or special code words for that?
I knew some of these routes by their names but first time I heard with numbers
THANK YOU
BLESSINGS
I believe that the 3 and 5 routes are reversed in number only, the 3 route is the comeback and the 5 route is the 10 yard out.
my school does a mini combine and i have no idea why they dont show these videos instead of people running the 40 and doing the bench press and all that
And know you aren’t in school
6 can also be a curl route & 4 a 10yd in.
No problem replaying prime OBJ absolutely cooking DBs

What's the wheel route though? Here because of that Cam Newton play. Also is there a video on how to defend these types of plays?
Nice Video
WOW!!! This is every that I need to know to be a good player and has the mind of a coach. I have two questions that I want to ask:
1) What is a seam route?
2) Do u really have to spin on a stop-n-go route?
her tou Its customary to spin but no its many different ways of doing it and just search for seam routes.. it's easier than explaining it
iRays HD on my team the tight ends run seams basically you run towards where you would run a post but don't make a cut . Kind of like a skinny post
Trevor C11 it is very important when you run a seam route to work the defender to the outside then bend it in front of the safety
A seam route isn't really a route, it's finding the "seam" or hole between zones. So there's no fixed angle or distance. A seam can just as easily open up between the safeties, between a safety and corner, or between linebackers and DBs.
A seam route is more of a concept, it attacks the area between zones. Since zone coverages differ, the seams are different based on the coverage shell
Are these the routes you would use for Canadian bantam routes
Odell is fast. Holy.
Post was my favorite route in hs.
Same here next to slant
Damani B I love the Fly
comebacks is where i got my offers
Just dropped New receiver drills up 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥‼️
cool
What number is a whip route?
Ok OBJ is amazing we get it
That dress shirt can't hide them guns! Thats a football player right there
Go is my go to
Can someone please tell me what a stop route is and a seam route?
Seam route is the same as a go route and a stop route is when you run then stop at a certain point to receive the ball
You guys must love Odell B. Junior
love this game
OBJ
odell
beckham
jr
Dark Vazz Who is that? What position?
i like how they use odell beckham jr...
He ran the curl best and he needs to be running a straight line and sink his hips to be more fluid running routes
Christian Warren you tell him that. Oh wait, he's in the NFL.
What they actually are
0 route- five yard stop and spin around
1 route- 3 step slant to the inside
2 route- 5 yard out
3 route- 10 yard left turn, straight down the line
4 route- 10 route right turn, straight towards the sideline
5 route- 12 yard back to 10
6 route- 5 yard slant out up the field
7 route- 8 yard slant towards the post (post route)
8 route- 8 yard slant right towards the corner of the field
9 route- straight up the field
🏈
One day Ill be in the NFL
josh's bullet club hopefully
Trey Simpson yeah
Trey Simpson are you trey simpson from hudl?
josh's bullet club nah
Haha his routes are so generic but he does them so good that he kills em every time
🏈🏈🏈🏈
Wow after seeing this video I don't want to become a WR anymore that's too much shit to remember lol haha
What is a wheel route??
Tiffany Camperos similar to an angle route, there are different rules for halfbacks and their routes
Lets say you are doing a wheel to the left. You would run straight to the left for a few steps and then run straight up the sideline
W
WHY ARE YOU YELLING

Only Odell

+JacobMinesIron nope
5) is not ran correctly
a "Comeback" route is the inverse of a curl, therefore it should be turned to the outside shoulder. Lazy route by OBJ
It's more probable that Odell ran the route correctly and it was misidentified as a comeback, if you see the way he sinks his hips and looks back to the inside first it just looks like a sort of back shoulder or timing throw tbh
