- “Reason and Revelation” is the title of Steven Goodman’s first book. The lecture will begin with some reminiscences about Steve, noting the many developments in the field of Tibetan Buddhist Studies during the forty years of his academic career, a career that began with his work on revelation (terma) and ended with his work on reason (abhidharma). It will then turn to a perennial question in the study of religion, and in the study of Buddhism: Which came first, reason or revelation, and what is the relation between them? The lecture will be introduced by Dzongsar Khyentse Rinpoche.

Khyentse Foundation Goodman Lectures | A series of online lectures by leading Buddhist studies scholars.
The Goodman Lectures are organized in honor of long-time Khyentse Foundation friend and advisor Professor Steven D. Goodman (1945-2020), whose enduring vision to make academic talks available to people beyond the classroom inspired KF and our friends in academia to share their knowledge and insight with a more general audience.
This inaugural lecture of the series was introduced by Dzongsar Khyentse Rinpoche.
The views expressed in the Goodman Lectures are those of the speakers, and do not necessarily reflect the views of Khyentse Foundation.

Agree
Knowledge and vision (Ñāṇadassana) associated with supernormal abilities, visions, and liberating illumination is accomplished through self-effort and ripening of various internal conditions of a cultivated mind. It should not be seen as equal to 'revelation' that is commonly understood as the grace of God, or knowledge coming externally from a supernatural entity like God or a metaphysical 'Adibuddha'.
What Makes Buddhism, Hinduism etc or any ism a religion ? I can understand that Christianity Islam and Judaism are religions. But what makes other isms religion if they have nothing in common with religions per se
Your question presupposes a lot of things the ism ironically is not a native thing to any of these faiths Hindu is called Santana dharma (still an umbrella term ) Buddhism is the Buddha sassanna or Buddha Dhamma and Sikhism is Sikhi but your question presupposes that Abrahamic religion is the norm and standard by which comparison should be made what exactly makes that true?
