Do you purposefully build the shutter to be longer than the window. I am adding shutters to brick too and I can't decide which I like best. Most I've seen stop at the bottom of the window, not the roll lock, to give the illusion it can close over the window. Great build! Thoughts?

Polycrylic sealer won't hold up in outdoors. Its going to turn chalky.

Man if you keep letting go of the material as you're ripping it down, you will eventually get a kickback right in the gut. That would be really bad for you. Jus sayin. Be careful.
What about when it's real windy outside they aren't mounted technically?? Do they flap around or heavy enough to not just using the "picture" hangers? Thnx
We had some of the worst wind we have ever had 3 days ago and the shutters didn’t move at all.
@@TaylorMadeCreations Ok cool. Might steal your idea cause for me I have stone and brick by windows and the brick sticks out a few inches and was gonna be a pain to mount. But your idea would solve that! Thnx bro

Yes you can
It’s a interior paint and the poly is interior also. No UV in either
Nice.... What size screws on the shutters and what size into the house?
A word of caution on your choice of finish. The water based poly sure is a nice product to use, it dries fast, easy clean up, looks good, etc. But the bad thing is it wont hold up very well outdoors even tho it says it is, especially if the project receives any sun at all.
Just keep an eye on it and if it starts looking like its fading then redcoat it with a couple coats of oil based poly or spar varnish or any product rated for exterior/marine applications.
Since you built the shutters with kiln dried pine, you dont want to lose them because a finish failed.

great job, i just built my style but i painted them. Great idea how you hung them, i will definitely hang them the same way. I was dreading how I would bolt them to the house.
