THERE IS A 3rd NUT!!! JUST HEADS UP TO OTHERS.
Awesome starting point, thank you. I tried changing from underneath car and just couldn’t get the bulb to turn into the assembly. Others have had better luck though. I gave up and found this video and it helped for sure.
As other commenters stated, there is a 3rd nut, same as others, behind the bracket the spring attaches to. Unhook spring with your hand to access it.
Replaced both my tail lights with this. Saved me hundreds. Thanks

Gentleman did a great job of showing how to remove the taillight assembly. Someone actually broke the lens on my driver's side and the video showed me how easy it is to remove the entire assembly. Thanks to the gentlemen for the information.

The dealer was $180 for 1 bulb and an hour of labor @ $200/hr. I didn’t purchase the one bulb that was $150 online, I found one on amazon for $20 bucks. It shines bright like the oem bulb. 🦾
Yeah the dealer will charge an arm and a leg for something so simple
@@datboynat11 I had a torque convert and AC line replaced at the dealership. 5400 was the total.
3239.00 in labor for and n 794 for the converter.
$1058 labor for the AC line and $254 for the part
Lucky I purchased an Endurance Car Warranty policy and they paid it. 😂

Bill F is correct, yes there are 3 - 8mm nuts also the rubber molding at the bottom of the taillight assembly has been removed making it easier for the assembly to be remove and put back. I wrestled with the job he made look so simple. Discovering the 3rd nut and trying to put back together without removing rubber molding and keeping dial from spinning off. But giving credit it is a helpful video cuz it saved me money by showing me how to do it myself
Thank you sir. One note though. Mine definitely had 3 bolts not 2.. Don't want anyone getting 2 off then just yanking away with tools.

On the 2017 XTS on the left hand side rear light removal there is a third screw hidden directly behind the trunk spring. I just disconnected the spring to reach it more easily. You can use your hands to take it off and put it back on. Bad news no one had the light switch but Cadillac $239. It was Saturday and I needed it right away it may be cheaper on line

NOTE: There are THREE 8mm nuts on studs holding the assembly, not just 2. If you pause at 4:51 you will see the 3rd lower mount hole on the car and the JB Weld on the taillight assembly where the stud mount boss should be... looks like whoever previously removed this removed the top 2 nuts and then pried the assembly out breaking the lower stud right off the taillight, and then JB Welded a cover on it

Unhook trunk spring and it’s somewhat east to access hidden behind spring bracket.

Great video, however, there is a third screw at the very top that if you don't undo, will not allow you to remove anything.

Thank u for the video. However, the unit did not come out after undoing the nuts but I was able to put my hand between the bumper and the light so i could change it.

There was water on the blown bulb I’m assuming that was the reason my bulb blew out too. When I removed the old bulb, there was water in it which was weird. Maybe it was from me using pressure washer to wash my car.

@@MrEdge696 these cars are well known for this issue, it’s a factory flaw, over time water would find its way through the tail light into the bulb. It’s a common issue with the xts

there are three bolts 2 at top one in bottom.
My taillight says did not just pop off like yours did.
After removing the screws I struggled to remove it with no success. I don't want to break anything by prying.

David Dudd it's basically the same as mine, even though I had a 2014 xts
Same issue here, removed the 3 nuts but the assembly seems to be caught on something near the bottom it is like it is hung up on something. I can't just pull it up and out like in the video? Any suggestions?
@@Rushesright move the carpet out of the way, use a flash to see if there's any additional tabs or clips holding the taillight in place.

Anyone know where to get a quality replacement? Seen some while searching, but at least a couple(cheap under $30) with at least some bad reviews saying each unit lasts a month or two.
You can replace the diode and still get the same problem months down the road because of the design flawed of this car, water is going to find its way back in and damage the light unless you find a way to prevent water from getting into the light.
how much did it cost for you to buy a new one?

Does this mean I need to replace the bulb although the light works? Or is it a fuse?
Candy Galaviz my tail light did not turn on at all. The only way I found out was when I was driving one day the driver behind me was honking so I pulled over and he drove up to my window and told me the break light on my driver's side wasn't working only the one on the passenger side. I took the car to a mechanic shop and they confirmed the same thing.
I didn't replace the bulb because the entire tail light is one Assembly. All you have to do is replace the unit that i show you in the video.

Sorry to say but this Didn't work for my car infact I'm sitting on 2 rear taillights freshly ordered, and that lil round modgule or whatever it is ...that twist inside the lamp rite now..about 900.00 spent..and it is not the problem...
The only thing I can do now is take it to the Dealer..if that doesn't work..I'm sinking it into a lake !...I hate I bought it
Check the wires bro. If it's not the Dios then it might be the wiring
@@datboynat11 I think it is the wiring but where ? The wires are good within the connections...it's multiple things not working pertaining to The Rear
1. The reverse Cam
2. The Reverse lamp
3. Lhs. Turn signal
4. RHS. Running light/ parking light.
5. The turn signal on the Left mirror goes in an out.

@treybartibarti1872 make sure you check the fuse bro. You might have a blown fuse if the wires are fine. Use a power probe to check if there's any power going to the fuse for the brake light or tail light 🤔
