Informative video Terry, I use the zip ties in different colours for my birds. Would you / could you do a tour of your quail room/set up? Would be interesting to see.
Thank you, sure I can do that. It might take a few weeks before I can get to it, still working on remodeling the house so my time is limited right now. But I will get to it soon.
Thanks Terry. This information is very helpful. I mixed my birds in the aviary and regretted not having leg bands. Now I don’t know how old each bird is. My initial plan was to get rid of most birds before winter. But I have hard time let them go. I’ll definitely add leg bands going forward.
In beekeeping we mark queens for age. The same principle can be used in banding your birds. White is born on a year ending in 1 or 6 Yellow 2 or 7 Red 3 or 8 Green 4 or 9 Bllue 5 or 0.
Terry I'm working on an incubator build like the one you have should be ready tomorrow my next question is do you sell and ship coturnix eggs I can't find any anywhere
Thank you for another informative video! I’m using the rubber band type right now but have the clips like you show. My question is how do you remove them without hurting the quail?
Ive been using zip ties, I write numbers on them in sharpie, so I can track sex and weights. But the sharpie has been fading or rubbing off after a couple of weeks. I see on your Amazon list there are 8mm and 16mm bands. Which are best for quail?
I tried using the 8mm legbands, but somehow a lot of them seem to come off. Would 7mm perhaps be better? Or am I putting them on too early (3-4 weeks old).
I haven't banded my quail, but I've used cable ties on my chickens with excellent results.
Super helpful as always - thank you!!
As always great information. Today one of the 8 weeks old females gave me a 19 grams egg, I never seen anything this large.
thanks for watching
I really appreciate this video. I decided to keep 2 of my hatches of Georgia Giants and was wondering how to band them with zip ties, Thanks! :)
I was thinking about getting quail and trying to breed them this info really helps 😊

I've seen them on ebay but at your own risk I guess.

They just pull apart, no injury at all to the birds.
Where did you find the 6mm Im having a hard time finding them on Amazon?

I use 6mm for standard size quail and 8mm for jumbos.
I tried using the 8mm legbands, but somehow a lot of them seem to come off. Would 7mm perhaps be better? Or am I putting them on too early (3-4 weeks old).
How do you remove the zip ties once their legs outgrow the band??
I use small nail clippers
I give my roosters a pink band on their left and the females get numbered bands with the colors according to generation
Where can I get cage cards?
I have had a terrible time with spiral leg bands. They dug into my chickens' legs and caused injuries.
Good to know
Your Amazon link is broken
