  • While Tim Meeks was developing his musical invention, the harpejji, in his basement several years ago, he must not have imagined that one day Stevie Wonder would want one. Imagine the feeling he had when someone tapped on his shoulder at Winer NAMM 2012 and whispered, "Stevie Wonder is coming to see the harpejji." This video captures the moments that followed. Since the demo, Stevie has received his harpejji k24 and hopes to master it over time.
    About the Harpejji
The harpejji is a new musical instrument by Marcodi Musical Products that combines the timeless sound of real strings with a patented playing interface that is ergonomic, intuitive and highly expressive. Whether you are a film composer, sound designer, organic keyboardist, avant garde songwriter, instrument collector, multi-instrumentalist, extended range bassist, fingerstyle guitarist, Chapman Stick player, musical therapist, or simply a trendsetting musician in general... there is something in it for you. The harpejji provides a heightened level of satisfaction, even for people that have tried every stringed instrument, tapping instrument, electric piano, electromechanical keyboard, digital piano, software synth, guitar emulator, iPad app, MIDI controller, keytar, isomorphic instrument, microtonal instrument or experimental musical instrument out there yet are still wanting more. It adapts to just about any musical style: classical, rock, jazz, roots, folk, electronic, country, blues, Americana, etc. Playing techniques include tapping, strumming, sliding, bending, slapping, percussing, hitting harmonics, scratching the strings, muting with your finger tips and more. Yes, the sound of the instrument is very similar to Mr. Wonders sound but much more authentic

Why is 2012 camera footage looks so bad when it wasn't at that time? All these new young people will think our technology was primitive like how we thought footage from the 60's to 80's were in 2010s.

For the makers of a new type of instrument, having Stevie Wonder appear at your stand at Namm must be a dream come true!!! I want one as well, but I've looked up the prices, damn!!!!

Tim Meeks, a heartfelt congratulations on this monumental achievement, and having an icon want one of these things, and to have him play it in concert! I am a professional musician that loves music of all kinds and the instruments that they are played on. A friend of mine introduced this instrument to me, and I have to say, I find it pretty exciting! This is one of the most exciting instruments created since the Moog Theremin and the Zendrum! I have to have one of these! I will save my money up and get one as soon as possible! I so much want one of these things!

If you're the guy who invented that, you did a great thing.

Need more classical and jazz demos. People can play Bach on ukelele. If this is just another simplistic tapping slapping instrument then it’s very limited.

I really hope sometime in the next few years they sell enough of the current instruments that they can start manufacturing a more affordable version for the masses, because that thing is awesome and more people get their hands on it (pun intended).

Whilst the tone of the string is great, this musical layout could have a whole other life as a midi instrument. You could translate some of the string dynamics with preassure sensors and treat the rest as a switch based instrument. You would have a different voltage on each fret, and then have a voltage sensor on each of the strings, this would work since you can't play multiple frets for the same string.

So the concept is basically the same of that of a Chapman stick but with the strings laying flat and spread out more widely.
I wonder what somebody like Tony Levin could pull from it.
