  • After adding electrical tape to the flask seam and side hole I melted 1 1/2 ounces of sterling silver, turned on the vacuum, and poured the molten metal. A very good casting!

    Looks great. I do have a question though. It sounded like a shop vac. If it was, why would you use that instead of your vacuum pump?

      Definitely a shop vac or other vacuum cleaner. No need for a vacuum pump because even the densest clay like Red Clay or Delft Clay are still not compact enough to require much suction like is needed in investment casting, plus the vacuum is used in place of the vents so air and gases can be removed.
