Was searching for Striped Bass, but on the two dead ticks kept picking up Puffer Fish on clam. Last time I caught these, I kept throwing them back......but after reading the comments on RUclips, IG, and just talking to people on the beach (like in the video), decided to give it a shot. Turned out to be the easiest, and one of the most tasty fish I've ever had!

I grew up in a Philly Tackle Shop. I remember Oltimers tell'n stories. Now I'm one telling you. In the 60's we rented rowboats and fished out of Waretown. Three adults and two kids (Me @ 12). We caught them two at a time all day. Took home about 250. When we got back to Philly, each family went home with 40->50. Most fisherman felt they were trash & pests.
See...this is why you gotta listen to the old timers! As a philly guy I appreciate the input!
This was awesome man. Great catch and cook. They looked delicious, definitely gonna try this
Try the pier on the southwest corner of the Manatoloking Bridge. Bring at least one chum pot & chum heavily. Use small pieces of clam for bait. You can buy blowfish rigs at Gabriel’s. Another good spot is the bulkhead west of Barnegat Light by the parking lot.
@@Skolmann thanks so much brother!!!, appreciate it
Good video! I used to catch Blowfish as a kid.
🤘🤘....yum yum! Nice video!
Thanks for your video and useful information!
I will bring that fish home next time!
I had no idea! That cleaned up easy
When I visted Jersey as a kid, I remember they would have hooks on a fillet table at the docs. (Kinda reminded me of a horizontal bottle opener)
Fisherman were using these hook like the guy in the video used his fork.
I caught a really good size one of these down here in Florida today, had no idea it was good eating! I'll have to try it next time.
Yup , once you eat blowfish you’ll never throw the big ones back
What was bait an time of year you caught these. Been fishing sandy hook since a kid an never seen one caught. But further south I seen a guy carrying on to his car
Hey man, nice video! I live in NJ and love fishing. Where can you fins the regulations on pufferfish? I've never seen anything about seasons / keeping them but lmk! Curious if this will apply to other lesser known fish as well
I don’t believe there are any regulations. Now that I know I’m never tossing a big one back!
very cool video what is your 7ft go to rod n reel i couldnt make it out in one of your lastest videos ty
It’s a Saparito Custom. They’re on Facebook. Was custom made. Thanks for watching!
Use the wood spoon to mix ingredients
That way u not scratching to much plastic from the boll
Plastic isn’t one of the major food groups? 😂 just kidding. Good idea and thanks for the tip!

How does everyone catch these things? I tried every method and used all my time to try to catch these things but no matter what I do I can’t get one, I went chumming, used salted clam and only caught 6 dogfish and a horseshoe crab along with almost catching a fluke, but thanks to overfishing, I have now realized fishing is a waste of time and only the RUclipsrs get to catch them because they always get what they want. I am at my limit because no one is willing to help me catch blowfish
All pufferfish are poisonous, all of them contain the tetrodotoxin including the blowfish here in NJ. They are not specific to Japan, they are a delicacy in Japan. They are also banned in majority of the US. Florida has a ban of harvesting due to the persistent toxicity on the east coast.
I believe that you are talking about the roe.
I read online that you shouldn’t eat puffer fish.
these you can eat
Pro Tip: Grab it by the tail and eat it like a wing! I sometimes cut the meat off the bone for 'boneless wings.'
Thanks for the tip! These guys were pretty damn big but I can see how the little ones are more like wings
Tried that spot yesterday. Nothing . What was your bait? Also, turn your fork the other way when skinning. Much easier.
I haven't seen many YTube videos featuring blowfish and always wondered why .... They are a joy to catch...easy to clean and flat out delicious!!!
As a kid we called them fish legs because after cleaning you are left with a pc of meat that looks like a chicken leg........
Easily one of the best tasting fish out there
I have to follow you bro from another fellow new jerseyian lol keep the content going bro 💪
Blowfish used to be soo plentiful...and soo easy to clean and eat.. cut off the head completely.. turn the tail meat inside out.. the only bone you have is one that runs down the middle of the tail meat.. once cooked you just break 2 solid chunks of solid meat off that 1 center bone.. I love them breaded and fried! The only problem is finding them these days.
As a kid in the 60's we would come home with a bucket full of Large blowfish. Not so today.
Yep, 30 years ago i remember catching plenty in the bay. (Can't remember witch one) but hardly ever off the coast.
you made that look easy now I have to go and get me some.great video
Dawkins Jersey!

When I was a kid working on the party boats I'd run around the boat collecting the blowfish for the weeks lunch. They are the best eating fish (next to striper) going. It helps to have non-slip gloves.
Fluke and FLouder are tops too. I also like the snapper blues and bluefish beside Stripers of course. As kids we would fish 14Th Street pier in Barnaget Bay in Seaside Park and catch a mess of snapper blues and blowfish and my buddies mom would fry them all up for us kids with Jane's Crazy Mixed Up Salt for us to sprinkle on them.
What bait do you use I just moved to forked river and wanna catch these huys
Just basic salted clam. Nothing fancy....they’re aggressive eaters!
