The CDJ-500 (1994) was the first model that led to the CDJ-300, CDJ-500II, CDJ-500S/700S, CDJ-500IILTD, and CDJ-100S. The CDJ-1000 (2001) was the first model that led to the CDJ-800, CDJ-1000MK2, CDJ-200, DMP-555, CDJ-1000MK3, CDJ-800MK2, and CDJ-400. In addition to all CDJ models, there were also dual DJ CD players and multiplayers we released, based on the technology that came from the CDJ series. These players were the early predecessor of XDJ line of all-in-one DJ systems. As you can see, there are so many models to cover. I remember first having a play on a CDJ-500 at the "Live 95" electronics expo at Earl's Court in London when I was 10. I couldn't understand why the CD was still spinning forwards when I was moving the jog wheel backwards, so I thought it was broken and wandered off to look at something else. On reflection, I was an idiot when I was 10.
CDs are so underrated in times when the sales of the compact cassettes and records are rising this is the easiest method of supporting your artists, not counting boring digital file on your player.
I've been along from the start, buying first the CDJ-500's, then the CDJ-500II/DJM-500... Now I've got a collection covering most of what I've owned and played on for the last 30 years. You could have mentioned the DVJ-series. I have the very hard to find DVJ-1000's. Probably the best CD player ever made for DJ's, and it could also play video-dvd's. It was also the most expensive player ever released with a price tag that makes the CDJ-3000's feel cheap :) , and they're beautiful in the dark with the blue led's. Now with video playback fully incorporated in every pad/phone/laptop for more than 10 years, when will there be a hardware player with that incorporated again? Last time was 2003-2006, just before HDMI became a standard and resolutions went from 4:3 to wide full HD and better, so it was before it's time really. Now when formats and resolutions are set for a good while, it's time to take the next step. The questions is, will it be you or some other brand taking the first, or rather second step, to realize it for all the VDJ's out here, lugging computers to every gig because it's the only option.
I just bought a pair of these a little over a week ago. My first players were the 500s but couldn’t find any for sale… So I went with the larger 500, they are hard to find in good shape. Glad I bought them before this video came out, lol!!
We have. The PLX-CRSS12 is compatible with rekordbox and has a specific timecode setting for rekordbox, along with MIDI support of the performance pads.

It is the version of the CDJ-500 without the seamless loop. The meme and reel that says 1992 is actually incorrect. The meme with the CDJ-300 marked as “1992” actually started during the MySpace days and has been circulating ever since, with new CDJs (as well as DVJs and XDJs) being added to it. Below is the correct timeline: 1994 - CDJ-500 released to Asian and European markets. Produced until 1996. 1995 - CDJ-300 released in US market. In Japan, the same model was released as CDJ-30. Produced until 2001. 1995 - CDJ-500G released in the US market. It is very similar to CDJ-500 but with the addition of the ability to play karaoke CDs (audio only) known as CD-G media. Produced from 1995-1998.
The CDJ-100S was released in 1998. It was the first to have onboard FX but was one of two models that did not have seamless loop. The other CDJ without seamless loop was the CDJ-300 released in 1995.
The CDJ-100S came later after the first CDJ. It was released in 1998. It was the first CDJ to have onboard FX (Jet, Zip, and Wah) which was later placed on the EFX units, but did not have seamless loop.
By the previous iterations, the CDJ-2000, CDJ-2000NXS, and CDJ-2000NXS2 CDJ became known more than simply a CD player, but a multiplayer of different media; especially with USB drives. Now that optical discs are no longer used, the legacy and heritage of the CDJ is maintained in its name. The CDJ-3000 may have let go of the “compact discs” but can now play music from the “Cloud Directly” through a feature called Cloud Direct Play.
Each of these 4 CDJs represent the first model of a generation. The CDJ-100 (1998) was the last variant of the CDJ-500 generation, introducing the JET, ZIP, and WAH FX, along with slot loading. While the CDJ-200 (2004) was part of the CDJ-1000 generation, while being the last CDJ to have a non-vinyl emulating jog wheel.
Each CDJ displayed here is the firts model of each generation, and every flagship model since the beginning. The CDJ-800 is part of the heritage of the CDJ-1000.
All those players were aspirational. I drew the CDJ500s on my school books. I had the 1000Mk3s and now a DDJ1000/ DJS1000. Opus-Duo. Sorry. Doesn’t do it for me.

My first were the CDJ's 500S. When I traded them in, they still worked flawlessly.
