She had a shitty childhood but never once wanted to take responsibility until things can no longer be undone.

Honestly I feel like based on the stunts she’s pulled & behaviors she’s shown (multiple moments throughout the show where Fiona has to tell her to stop trying to grow up to fast and enjoy being a kid) from a young age it kind of lines up. She did extreme things like kidnapping a baby, (ik she was very young and didn’t fully understand her actions) but stuff like that is a good indicator for her personality type. She’s willing to trap a guy to selfishly have a baby just bc SHE wants one. Her dumbest moments came from her need to get what she wants by any means necessary even if the outcome is only “positive” for her. It was more excusable when she was a little sweet girl but it shows that part of her is still apart of her.

What's interesting about this clip is that if you watch these scenes all together in sequence, you come away with morals like: "Be very careful who you choose to help." Also, it's interesting to imagine how their relationship would have gone if she hadn't baby trapped him. For example, he wanted to go into the military (Air Force) at a young age. If she had pushed for marriage instead of parenthood, this would have made her a military spouse entitled to VA benefits.benefits. She would have been in a long-distance relationship, which would've been something to complain about and therefore very much Debbie's jam, and she would have had all sorts of advantages in her education and career. Military spouses don't have to be long distance unless their spouse is deployed or on training exercises off base. She could have gone with him, gotten a housing allowance, healthcare, education paid for once he was in long enough, etc. Girlfriends don't count in the military, but wives do.

Also perhaps it could be because of something like The Godfather- Don Corleone didn’t want his son with the most potential to be involved in the family business of dealing with the mafia. Derek may have had the most potential of all their children, and they accepted the first one because maybe their first son didn’t have as much potential and they saw Derek’s life going down the toilet if they were to have him responsible for Debbie and a baby.
I think they figured out exactly what debbie did very quickly and probably never suspected that from the other girl which is why they were treated differently. One was an accident, oops. The other was a calculated pregnancy at 14 behind their sons back

I’m only in the beginning of season 3 so I haven’t seen all the development of Debbie’s character yet that people are upset about (many of you are saying that the writer’s ruined her story) but I KNEW that Debbie was going to get pregnant as a very young teen since season 1. Honestly not even surprised in the slightest that she tricked a boy into getting her knocked up. All the signs were there. The environment she was raised in alone was total chaos, had horrific parents & she was put in adult situations/witnessed things no child should/was given adult responsibilities since she was a child. In my opinion; she’s an incredibly jaded yet sweet girl who has always desperately wanted a normal family. Plus…the only control she probably ever felt over her own life was when she was taking care of & was in control of the kids/babies she watched at day care - She even kidnapped a child when she was younger ffs in desperation to feel needed and in control. Honestly I feel like based on the stunts she’s pulled & behaviors she’s shown (multiple moments throughout the show where Fiona has to tell her to stop trying to grow up to fast and enjoy being a kid) from a young age it kind of lines up. She did extreme things like kidnapping a baby, (ik she was very young and didn’t fully understand her actions) but stuff like that is a good indicator for her personality type. She’s willing to trap a guy to selfishly have a baby just bc SHE wants one. Her dumbest moments came from her need to get what she wants by any means necessary even if the outcome is only “positive” for her. It was more excusable when she was a little sweet girl but it shows that part of her is still apart of her.

I’m only in the beginning of season 3 so I haven’t seen all the development of Debbie’s character yet that people are upset about (many of you are saying that the writer’s ruined her story) but I KNEW that Debbie was going to get pregnant as a very young teen since season 1.
Honestly not even surprised in the slightest that she tricked a boy into getting her knocked up. All the signs were there. The environment she was raised in alone was total chaos, had horrific parents & she was put in adult situations/witnessed things no child should/was given adult responsibilities since she was a child.
In my opinion; she’s an incredibly jaded yet sweet girl who has always desperately wanted a normal family. Plus…the only control she probably ever felt over her own life was when she was taking care of & was in control of the kids/babies she watched at day care - She even kidnapped a child when she was younger ffs in desperation to feel needed and in control.
Not saying it was right whatsoever, and it’s horrific how often this type of situation happens to young men (being tricked or just having no say over what happens when a girl is pregnant) But again, it’s not surprising at all for Debbie.
This season ruined Debbie’s character. What she did to him was horrific and nasty.
