You know you’re old when you recognize equipment in a museum ship that you used to work on. I used to repair the SPA-66 and SPA-25 radar repeaters as were shown in this video. I also repaired the surface and air search radars. Thanks for the tour Ryan !
It appears to me that Missouri and Wisconsin had the best CEC 's of the four and this is in large part due to the rapid technological progress in the late 1980's and early 1990's when these two ships were reactivated. Both more than proved there worth in Desert Storm with precision missile strikes and accurate gun strikes in Kuwait.
I know exactly how Ryan feels being in a space that is so familiar yet so alien. I worked at a Target retail location for a number of years. Walking into any Target that isn't "mine" still feels weird.
Better restored he says. I’ve been to New Jersey a hundred times. CEC looks like we’re about to go into action off Lebanon. It’s dark, all the monitors and screens are working. Nothing compares.
It's kinda funny, I'm a bit of a trekkie, and what Ryan says about minute twilight zone differences between sister ships always translates through the sets for whatever sister ships they visit in that universe.
Hey my dad would've been been in the Bunker Hill as depicted on the board at around 5:44. He was also an OS so he would have been working on updating a similar kind of tactical display
Thanks to all. Good job showing how the Iowa Class CECs compare. I worked with Meghan on The Battleship Wisconsin. The Battleship Wisconsin's CEC was pretty much emptied out when it was finally decomissioned in 1991. Recently, the Harpoon consoles and a SLC 32 workstation was added. Still a lot of work to do on the air and surface search radars and CIWS.
Hey Ryan, remember what I said in a previous video about you walking us through conducting a simulated fire mission for the Tomahawk and Harpoon missiles? Basically running through the steps, moving the controls, seeing the board light up, etcetera - but not actually launching? Battleship New Jersey doesn't have the equipment for that, but it looks like Missouri does. Maybe that would be good to see as another collaboration video with Mighty Moe.
I was an OS onboard the Wisconsin from 89-91, and we called ours Strike not CEC, we did have a separate CIC small but it was deep inside the ship in case Strike was taken out, wasn't manned except during Desert Storm. also Wisconsin did have the most modern equipment inside our Strike then the other Iowa's, being the last to be recommissioned I'm sure the newer technology was installed, we still didn't have NTDS, which was like Internet between ships, but we had more modern radar scopes and so forth. and we did have a ladder in Strike going up to our flag bridge, which was right above Strike and right below the actual bridge, to get to that there was a ladder right outside Strike so close also.
When he pronounces battleship Missouri I can see the smoke coming out of her ears as she wants to correct him to pronounce it the proper way 😂 the best part is he keeps saying it the wrong way because he's a boss and he does what he wants. Much respect my dude.
I have a question that I like to see a video. If you could build your own fleet. Which would consist of 4 classes of battleships 4 of carrier 4 of cruiser and 4 of destroyer. Which ships would you choose. Would like to limit one class per nation.
On DD709 USS Hugh Purvis, it was called CIC for Combat Information Center. Fancy red lights and plot boards and mechanical gun control computers. How quaint.
The incident with the CWIS was that the silkworm in the Gulf? I believe the missile was engaged and shot down by the Royal Navy's HMS Gloucester. You're welcome 😊
from what little I know "Command In Control" is more about maneuvering the ship for gunnery and threat avoidance with additional captain and officers duties for the ship, and "Combat Engagement and Control" is more about advanced tactical weapons and Electronic Warfare and communications.
He always says "Missourah", is this some kind of accent or is is how "Missouri" is really pronounced? I'm asking, because i'm german and i'm wondering about it - i always pronounce the name as "Missouri"
People from Missouri mostly pronounce it Missourah. I heard somewhere that the state was named from the Native Indians' name for the river that was known as Mizz-Ora river, same as with Mississippi.
As much as I appreciate the video, maybe using a wireless Mike for three people isnt the best option. I dont understand everything and the headphones dont go any louder
at about 10 minutes It sounds as if he said "Falkland Islands" - I had to use Wikipedia - it is Faylaka Islands. Could be my hearing. Falklands Islands as I spell it NO where near where they mean - NO US BB ever even near there I think - Now Great Britain has had a battle near there in WW1, and a "minor" 1980s war there ! Still a great video !! Ok - recent videos on Missouri- may be my memory - need to re-view NJ CEC videos, But I have a feeling Missouri has more equipment. Hey trekkie - I once visited a Navy land test site with a CIC with a Star Trek feature I think no US ship has - best easiest entry to CIC - exit the elevator! Differences between Sister ship - I once worked where they had 3 crews for 2 sister ship - time on was half each sister. NO Dedicated cook- each one had what in which cabinet or drawer in the galley (Kitchen) totally Different. hmmm. y'all didn't get a DRT in CIC as built ? ( I thought DRT were simple enough, rugged enough would have been there then !!
The Iowa class have both a CEC and a CIC. The CIC was used for original WW2, Korea or Vietnam war weapons and radar. The CEC was used for the systems added during the 80's upgrades. The CEC is effectively a second CIC. But because the 1940's designers didn't plan on fitting drones, tomahawk missiles and harpoon missiles and the CIC is filled with computers and control stations for the 16in and 5in guns a new CIC was needed for the new systems. To avoid confusion due to there being 2 CIC spaces a the new systems are in a area called CEC. CEC stands for combat engagement center.
most important space.. id disagree. engineering spaces are most important, without them its nothing more than a shore battery tied to a pier. DRT= place OS's like to stuff pencils, and rags and wonder why it doesnt work! LOL

I do the same at different Best Buy's.

Enterprise-D, Yamato and Odyssey, for example. There were also pretty big differences between Enterprise and Enterprise-A.
@@SargeMorris Yamato was the first one that came to mind absolutely 💯
Wow so many memories.. That is my old work space.
I'm saving up to finally come out for a visit to the New Jersey next year!
Hey my dad would've been been in the Bunker Hill as depicted on the board at around 5:44. He was also an OS so he would have been working on updating a similar kind of tactical display
CEC in New Jersey has an interesting feel. It's dark in there, like it might be for battle conditions.
Favourite channel. I fry corned beef in butter and watch every episode after my wife goes to bed.
I gotta try that
That is an oddly specific nighttime snack. Although probably delicious...
@@BeingFireRetardant my cholesterol thanks you 😂

It breaks my heart to have to be the one to tell you this Ryan but there are no modern battleships
Not since about 1944
I was an OS onboard the Wisconsin from 89-91, and we called ours Strike not CEC, we did have a separate CIC small but it was deep inside the ship in case Strike was taken out, wasn't manned except during Desert Storm. also Wisconsin did have the most modern equipment inside our Strike then the other Iowa's, being the last to be recommissioned I'm sure the newer technology was installed, we still didn't have NTDS, which was like Internet between ships, but we had more modern radar scopes and so forth. and we did have a ladder in Strike going up to our flag bridge, which was right above Strike and right below the actual bridge, to get to that there was a ladder right outside Strike so close also.
Missouri is lookin' pretty sweet... In the end, I love 'em all equally.
Was just at the Wisconsin, and with the light show they got there, I WISH our cec looked this good
I was lead tomahawk operator aboard Wisconsin during desert shield and desert Storm.
This is a great collab. Thank you Ryan and Battleship Missouri staff!
Awesome! I really like learning about the "Status boards"
In addition, at the beginning, behind Frank, is the AN/SLQ-32(v)3 EW System Operator Console (DCC).
Tell Megan I’m eager to work for her when I’m out of college. Battleship cove is my dream job! I’ll have to visit at some point first though!😅
can you do a video about all the common sailor lingo? batten down the hatches! etc.
another great video from the battleship. thanks
I like how the surrendering to the drone was historically significant, or funny, enough that they put that specific drone in the Smithsonian.
CIWS. OMG those things are wicked!
SeaWizz fired in anger?!? O do tell!!
I watched the ship's bells video the other day. Can you show us the ship's Balls? (the magnetic compass binnacle)
what an awesome space to explore.

Who is going to give Ryan a real microphone so he can do propper conversations/interviews with friends/colleagues.
And a new belt!
The SSES was/is referred to using a one-syllable pronunciation that rhymes with "yes,"
Deployed onboard both New Jersey (twice) and Missouri in SSES. All my rides are museums or been used as targets!
On DD709 USS Hugh Purvis, it was called CIC for Combat Information Center. Fancy red lights and plot boards and mechanical gun control computers. How quaint.
Does that cec have armor protection?
I thought just the other day Ryan said the donut shop was the most important space… so confused.
Thanks for the video!
The CEC looks so different to what was shown in Under Siege

I can't really blame those guys for surrending knowing what was about to rain down on them, not a very hard choice to make
@The Best Michael Jackson Educational Channel Ever! Most ground soldiers are "innocent". It's the leaders who are the criminals
Which console did Tommy Lee Jones get his head put through on Missouri?
The USS Alabama was used for the filming location
It would have been CEC.
So would love to fire some of the old equipment up LOL.

What Ryan is your type??? Sorry didn't mean any thing, everyone has their own pleasures I guess...
heh-heh-heh

So True
You can just see them grimace every time he mispronounces Missouri.
Instead of selling Scottish titles has anyone ever thought of being sponsored by a company that makes microphones?
the mic issues are reaching meme levels
Worked fine in this video?
Care to donate the cost of a high-quality wireless hand-held microphone?
the audio quality is unbearable.
