4:40 You could start using the bumper camera in these types of races, you have the rearview mirror at the top so you don't have to worry about swapping between the radar and fuel.
wait, bumper cam is the only view that has a mirror? The real driving simulator™
Beef Supreme well, if simulation means having an HUD mirror in the middle of your view...
The sense of humour the community has 😂 its true, hood view is most realistic in most cases due to no head movements. The only logical time to have a mirror hud is with a wide given camera angle like the bumper
V Jones I don’t have got sport but in iracing almost everyone not playing vr uses the virtual mirror. It’s way more realistic then having half of it cut off and not have the ability to slightly turn your head lol
What does the radar do?
I hope you see this, because it would probably help.
When you are fuel saving, the aim is to spend to minimum amount of fuel possible so you can gain time in the pits.
When you are on the straights, you want to make sure that you are mapping and lift-and-coasting in such a way that you spend very little fuel at the ends of straights. This is because that energy is just getting braked away in 0.5sec anyway, so you might as well not waste it at the end of the straights.
Because the pack is extremely slow (you'd be surprised), you can lose several tenths and still gain that back with map 1 on early straights and map 6 plus lift for ends. This ends up more efficient.
I used this technique to save extremely hard with extreme lifting and coasting. I had 20% extra fuel on all others at pits and used that to break away from the pack and drive off with the same fuel and good pace.
So my point is: save a ridiculous amount of fuel, its hard but really becomes worth it when you reap the rewards
This is great advice, but in his case, he pretty much got murdered in almost all of his races.

Thanks for showing the bad times too. Let’s us all know that we all do it. I’m having a hell of a time attaining my A rating on account of getting shafted.
I gave up because it just became way too annoying, leading a race and in lap 20 get punted, race again and get taken out on first corner. And on and on, you spend more time losing races because of hits than actually finishing a race. It's just a waste of time, how can you justify spending 5 hours to have a 20 min clean race. 80% of races are crash fests. God this game annoys me lol, but I still play it for some reason.🤪
Well luckily we'll have GT7 in the next year so people won't have to worry about people who can't keep off of you while your racing. I like single player racing for the career mode and not having to fight with online players who either are children who try to crash you, block you for others (and fail) or the ones who do nothing but play games all day while I have to work so I don't get as much practice but still good enough to win but sometimes they just know the tracks more than me and can just get those few extra seconds shaved off to beat me. Also GT7 on PS5 will have no loading screens!

Its just trunin left lel
They're making a left turn!
South Park makes some powerful memes lol.
I'm coming up to that turn thing, I'm gonna turn left lol
But can turn left faster than me?
Speaking of oval racing being “easy” I remember an interview during the Italian GP at Monza a few years ago, Hamilton was asked a question about going faster or how to go faster there. He stated something along the lines of, “not going faster but not making a mistake.”
With so few corners and areas to “gain time” it’s a matter of not putting a foot wrong in any area that allows you the fastest time and not going out there trying to make up time.
Loved your comment on the local "Hash Brown Airport" air-traffic controllers and the "near miss" loss of separation incident with the overflying Airbus (I think) and the formation flying fighters. Doubly funny for me after retiring from 45 years of aviation and taking up sim racing (which I'm not very successful at).... Been subscribed to you for some time now and am always impressed at the way you analyse the data from your races and work out strategies.
In an infinite number of universes Super GT continues to relive these 6 hours...forever and ever. I’m editing in another forever and ever.
Damn son, that's deep
An American watcher, here! I’ve watched a bit of NASCAR during my interest in motorsport and one thing I’ve noticed you don’t entirely take advantage of is the side draft in the corners. When cornering alongside a player, make sure you’re on the OUTSIDE while keeping relatively close to them. When you turn, you subsequently push air with the side of the car, so the side of the car that travels farther in a corner acts as the rear end does in a straight line- it forms a low pressure.
I think this will help your oval racing a ton! Hope this was helpful :)
"This Lamborghini here" made me think you were perhaps referring to something, but the mention of knowledge made me certain.
You have to do Indy on Iracing, its probably the most fun I've had in a sim and also the most challenging. Wish GT had more oval races or had an Iracing style series system alongside the daily races, it would allow for more variety and I would finally be able to race the super formula for once.
I can completely appreciate the skills involved in oval racing, the mental and physical stamina involved etc. But i find it so deathly dull compared to circuit racing.
I totally agree. There is definitely skill and talent involved in ovals, but in my opinion, a circuit shows the true talent and ability of a driver.
Except for more full course cautions. Seeing a side x side rolling starts where they take it 3+ wide for position at the speeds they run. 🥰 my favorite
Im really new to real world/sim racing, can someone please explain why ovals are hard? As a simpleton the oval races seem like they should be a breeze hahaha
@@Lowkas It pretty much comes down to consistency over a high number of laps. As GT says, when something becomes more simple it makes it much more competitive. Best way to figure out why something is hard is to try doing it yourself though.
@@DavePlaysGaming ahh got it, Thanks:)

Steve your channel is honestly perfect for showing the highs and lows of GT. There is nothing more soul crushing than what happened to you at the end, that damn chime of everyone leaving at once wakes me in the middle of the night in sweats. But you turned that low into a high- quality video ;) Also wish Hashbrown circuit was added to Daily Races more frequently, I haven't raced there in months, it looks sooo fun.
Thank you so much for all the dedication, I really did enjoy this video even though no results were presented but you just have a way to make your content interesting at all times
Really enjoyed that. It shows that the lower cut of meat like myself are not the only ones that have frustrating race after frustrating race.
It's great to see the insight as well as the whole race. So again, thank you
I always thought that racing on oval is easy, just turn left. But you proved me wrong. I have new appreciation for those drivers. Thanks Steve :)

I know this sucked for you Steve, but this was easily one of my favorite videos. Such a hit to watch that grind condensed into 25min.....
Omg that last race was heartbreaking
Back in the 90s I reaaaally loved watching Nascar on Eurosport :) I followed it to the bone even. Then the rules kept changing each year (like in F1 for a period) and I got bored of it. But I still respect oval-drivers a LOT for what they do. Besides, most nascar races are double or triple the duration of an F1 race, and they have to keep their focus thàt much longer as well (often resulting in 'the big one' because not everyone can do that every race of the season lol)
Really glad you showcased your own learning process here. Gives us viewers who haven't quite gotten into FIA racing just yet a much better idea how to get started ourselves.
the air traffic comment at around 2:46 cracked me up, gg Super GT ❤
I remember the official nascar stock cars in gran Turismo 5 and 6, doing long races around Daytona and Indianapolis with my Brian Vickers’s Redbull Camry 💙 good times. Always admired oval racing, it’s way more complicate that it seems. A totally different approach from “our” circuit races.
Had many days like this, makes more rewarding when all goes well.
Thanks... that’s 25 minutes I will never get back!
Nah... even when you fail you are entertaining, take that! 😂👍🏻
I know these look like the easiest tracks, but they're the most fun for new players of Gran Turismo and it's highly refreshing to see even experienced players like yourself do appreciate and understand the struggle everyone can have on these circuits. Not everybody has the time to learn all the other circuits, all the braking points in each car category as that takes a considerable amount of time, good gaming setups and also a few ghost laps from friends to correct and improve your racing lines. This circuit however, anybody can jump into it and do well.
Good luck in your next one champ.
I love how for the first 30 seconds of the race you talked about the air traffic.
5:04 ... waaaahh?? You mean nascar really isn't just about turning left?! Props to you for being the first brit I've ever heard actually admit that. Driving 200 MPH for 4 hours inches away from 50 other cars is absolutely insane. Nascar really is underrated in the race world.

I enjoyed your vid, that’s dedication. Resembles just about all my time sim racing, not just 6 hours.
Wow thanks for that message at the end man, I had ordered a tablet for my birthday (today) and I thought it was this great deal, it was gonna help me with a bunch of stuff, etc. Turns out it was a sham and that kinda killed my mood for the day but I’m not gonna let that keep me down. You learn you move forward and you get to watch SuperGT get tossed around an oval haha great vid man, better luck next time!
I ALWAYS get to the end of your videos so never worry again
I'd had a similar experience racing at brands this week on the dailies (with the obvious lack of any kind of penalty system) until my last race today when starting 3rd, the guy on pole was somehow transported into the pit lane shadow realm before the start and the guy in second binned it on the first corner! Sometimes the sun even shines on a drC rated driver!!! 😂
big big rip Steve. What a shame. Oval is so hard, theres a reason I'll never race it on iRacing, but as you say I have mad respect for those who do
I just started getting more serious with sim racing. Upgraded from controller to wheel and its like learning to drive again. I'm a long way from spending 5 hours racing. Your video I hope will help me avoid raging because I know it'll happen to me.
I’d just like to say R.I.P to the 6 hours you lost. Feelsbadman 😭. Also

You’ll get ‘em next time I promise. Love the videos, keep up the good work and thank you ❤️
Just for all the Americans attracted by the oval track but confused by the hash brown reference: A hash brown in the UK is the same as US hash brown in that its made from shredded potato, but it has an extra manufacturing step whereby it's reconstituted into a nugget in the shape of a scalene triangle... And a scalene triangle is the shape the shoulder sling on your assault rifle makes when you shoot from the hip.
Oval is a lot more technical than ppl give credit. You really have to have a good game plan and strategy. Deserves more respect
The ATC joke was on the spot mate. Love the channel. Great content.
Honest, I had to skip around it was too brutal to watch it all. My heart goes out to you Super GT. You had an inspired strategy that never got to the light of day.
It’s so great to see you and Jimmy grow and that you’re friends! It’s leading to some really cool real life racing ops! Wish I was in your position. I love racing in real life... haven’t been sim racing much as it’s just no where close to real...and am actually contemplating selling my rig, really into shooters atm. And working so I can support real racing which is my #1 passion. Much love buddy. Hope you’re loving life🍻🥇
Your accent and honest tone for me makes it worth it
This really shows the difference in margins when it comes to the top players. I did a max fuel pit stop and 1 Fuel in my race (DR: B SR: S) and was winning the race going into the final corner before inevitably being binned. I don't say this to brag, but the time loss in my strategy meant I would never get away with it in 2nd split. This game is very different the higher up you go
‘I’m going a bit more aggressive this race,’ fuel save level 6 lol. Just wasn’t your day cheers mate thanks for the fun videos.
Got my subscribe for your video. You learn more from failure than from success and you taking the time to talk about it absolutely wort it!!
Not that it needs to be beaten to death since you addressed it, but this is why NASCAR is _loads_ more complicated than people give it credit (though I don't care to watch, myself). Besides all of the points you addressed in the video about oval racing in general, those cars have 4 speed manual transmissions, zero electronic aids, zero telemetry (better hope your fuel math is good!), way less grip than most other racecars, way less downforce, way less aerodynamic stability in general (no diffuser, no canards, no vents, etc.), no independent rear suspension, and oh yeah, it's about 55ºC inside during the average 4 hour race! All the while you're going up to 200mph with a car 5mm in front, another behind, and one or two alongside. Definitely more complex than 'just turning left' as people are fond of saying...
I love your vids, even just having it in the background while playing gt sport is good lol 😂
11:10 you punted the Porsche, causing him to surge into the slow car to he turn to avoid and cane down into you, then as a result you sent the guy on the left into the wall in the inside I believe (it was either the Porsche or the guy on the inside that awarded you a penalty
The penalty was for hitting the barrier. It literally says this on the screen. He hit the barrier, and then the penalty pops up saying "barrier collision."
Was anyone else physically leaning to the left everytime he turned? I just watched half an hour about a game I've never played. This was entertaining and I love his voice.
A big part of oval racing is to use the slipstream and bump the car in front so that you both go faster and gain on the cars ahead and ultimately the leader, because the leader won’t have slipstream.
Love ur commentary R4M
Oh, this is gonna be a great video. Let me grab a cold cider and kick back.
"Oh that's a nice race you are having here, wouldn't it be a shame to add some LAG." Rest in peace, Steve.
Great vid. Very interesting to see how your learning process works. You're a good few splits ahead of me, so your fine tuning is a different level to mine, but the honing process is much the same.
I recently move to assetto corsa on PC... I really miss GT Sport. So many cars, tracks and the godly graphics. I really need my own PS to connect to my PC.
Super gt I'm a oval racer on Forza 7 and to to be honest oval racing is like playing chess. You got to stay in close in the draft. The draft will allow you to save fuel while going fast. And another thing you should learn on oval track like Daytona, California speedway, Talladega is the side draft. Btw the track you raced reminds me of this one track in Pocono Pennsylvania here in the United States 😀😀
Welcome back to the Ore-Ida Hashbrown Circuit, track conditions are looking extra crisp today!
it's crazy to me to see the difference between these races on the EU servers vs NA (where I live). The winning strategy in a lot of the Hashbrown Raceway races I've been in is two cars working together. At fuel setting 1 two car committed to bump drafting each other is faster than the pack and forces people to run at the faster pace to try to keep up.
OMG
I know people who would have broken things following this kind of unlucky session.
Quite brave of you to keep trying
6 hours into 25 mins of entertainment. Grazzi ragrazzi
I can't recommend iRacing's Nascar (Carb Cup) races enough if you like the precision of going 3 wide and 7 deep for lap upon lap until the white flag and it all disintegrates into madness (and this is coming from someone who can't stand the sport itself).
Well I enjoyed your incompetence. It was inspiring.
You've really had a mare here haven't you 😂 it happens. Great vids!
yeah man, this was a total shocker
i've been waiting for this oval goodness
Damn! Twisted ending. That's a real bummer, you were finally getting dialed in.
the airplane thing reminds me of SimCity 2000. they actually programmed collisions between the airplanes and the buildings. this meant that if a skyscraper was built right near the end of a runway, airplanes would take off and crash straight into the skyscraper. this would destroy the building, starting fires on surrounding tiles. if you didn't rezone things, then these crashes would just keep happening: skyscraper built -> plane crash, skyscraper rebuilt -> plane crash, over and over year after year.
This vid was quality nap inducing material. Thanks for that!!!!
That "easy" corner has a lot to it than ppl think... Deep banking turns that draw out like that are very beautiful when it comes to tire wear and fuel saving... Alternating low(quicker by very slight margin but takes up a bit of fuel for picking up that lost speed) to high (uses less fuel not as quick but your exit will be at a higher speed cause your not gunning the tires to the left you are drawing it out more offering more to speed)
Edit: Also for these kind of races you should try to go in on lap 14/15 (assuming you have the fuel for that) so that you can get the upper edge in the later race... I noticed a lot of cars run out by pushing to hard I figure you can have a bit more in the tank for the push
Only the OGs remember this daily race from 9283738292828292 MILLION years
Those six hours turned into two potential years of content for the viewers combined

Oh man, Yeah screw that. My jaw dropped after seeing what happened to the final race. I thought maybe another wreck or something but to just server crash is nuts.
Super entertaining seeing the learning process! Great vid!
I like it when you talk about the cars a bit more ~~~ Nissan GTR is an absolute beast of power yeah? You were in such a good position in that final race, burning fuel like a rocket (with all of it to burn). It just doesn't always work out I guess... Spinning out = game over.
Steve, since you’re back on iRacing, consider running the Rookie Street Stocks that come with the base subscription. Actual Oval racing is quite different that what GT presents. You’ll actually have to counter steer to be fast or at least unwind the steering wheel a bit to find the best balance of throttle and steering input.
When you hop back in to iRacing, try some oval. Rookie stock at charlotte or dega is extremely fun. Once you get to K&N Nascar it's even more fun!
That was the best end to an incredible video.
@superGT you don't necessarily need the radar very much, you have proximity sensors that tell you how close cars are on either side of you at the bottom of the HUD in that grey area that has the speed/gear/revs in it
