"This Is A Case Of Oppression" Says Director Of Julian Assange Documentary

  • Julian Assange is facing a second day in the High Court as part of long-standing battle against extradition to the US, where he is accused of leaking confidential military secrets.
    He was unable to attend the first day of the hearing as his barrister told the court was too unwell.
    The WikiLeaks founder is wanted by US authorities over an alleged conspiracy to obtain and disclose national defence information following the publication of hundreds of thousands of leaked documents relating to the Afghanistan and Iraq wars.
    Lawyers for the 52-year-old argued that if extradited, he would face a “flagrant denial of justice” by prejudiced judges, and was being prosecuted for an “ordinary journalistic practice”.
    TalkTV's Julia Hartley-Brewer is joined by director of the documentary about Assange called 'The Trust Fall', Kym Staton, to discuss his final bid to fight extradition to the US.

    • @lukemurray4950
      @lukemurray4950 6 месяцев назад +5

      @@nightowl7459 You comment shows you know nothing about this case and just make things up. Firstly he is Australian and doesn't work for ANY government organisations. He is a journalist and founder of Wikileaks a private company. The fact we have to start here is shocking.
      Secondly, he did not leak any British National Party members information as it has not been a political party for a decade and has nothing to do with this case. He is not even accused of committing any crime against the United Kingdom. His case here in the UK is weather or not he should be sent to America to face trial there.
      Thirdly he never released any information that would put anyone in danger as the guy making this documentary pointed out in this interview because he painstakingly went through and redacted all the names and information that would of. Also the proof of this is that not a single person has come to harm since the leak had happened. It's a lie pushed to justify what is happening to him.
      And finally, if you want to make this a crime then every US or British journalist who has reported on the war crimes of Russia, China, Iran or any nation in the world should be found guilty and sent to those respective countries. This is the pure insanity of your argument. The very proof this is all because the US got caught committing war crimes and not about the safety of people is that they have never prosecuted those behind the ear crimes and instead are only going after those who exposed them. This is a very simple case.

      Assange did not put lives at risk. The unredacted files were first published by US based organisation Criptome because of a guardian journalist publishing clues to the password of the encrypted file. There was also no hacking as Chelsea Manning did not need to hack the files at all. The US prosecution case is weak at best but when they get him to the secret Espionage Court in Virginia where the jury pool is made up of military and CIA personnel, they won't need a strong case and routine journalism will be effectively criminalised under the US Espionage Act.
