Lending rate is the rate of intrest at which commercial banks give loans to the people of india while, Repo rate is the rate of intrest at which commercial bank recieves loans for themself from RBI. Repo rate is only short term.
Repo rate is acually the repurchase rate. Banks don't deposit any collateral with RBI when they borrow. There's some agreement like bond. So there are some terms that are set including the interest. So banks repurchase that agreement from RBI. That's why its called repurchase rate or repo rate and not lending rate
