Nay. Sounds like a carnival is in town in the background that occasionally drowns you out. It would be better if it was toned down by maybe 50% just to provide a subtle backing, rather than competing with your voice for dominance of ear attention.
@@someguycamping9972 really it drowns me out, its honestly about as low as it can go in my editing software. Noted, I'll likely switch it up for the next one
@@nvRanger Hmm, listening back to it, it's not that it drowns you out, its that the music track isn't balanced on both sides. Sometimes its louder in one ear, sometimes its louder in another, and the tune is discordant. The span between 1:30-2:00 mark is a good example of what I'm talking about. I'm not a sound guy, so trying to describe things falls out of my expertise, hope I've helped.
What I find so funny is Primm has the whiskey pete casino, which has the Bonnie and Clyde death car. I love how they made the Vicky and Vance a part of that.
I live in vegas, and I've played around with the idea of starting a tour company that takes people to all the real life locations. I used to live near to the real life REPCON plant
Nipton was taken from the inside. Frumentarii dressed as traders infiltrated the town if I remember correctly. But the town fell from within which is why the walls didn’t work in this particular case.
@ it also touches on your ranking about bad leadership. I’m pretty sure the mayor was doing some shady dealings with the undercover legion and that’s why they burned him alive for corruption.
You’re correct, I think he was making deals with “Mr. Fox” (Vulpes) and the Powder Gangers. He was trying to double cross the powder gangers, screw over NCR troops, and take money from Vulpes to abandon the town and run for a political position back in the NCR.
One point of consideration for Jacobstown - snow. Game begins in Oct and there's already snow on the ground. Later in the season there's a real risk of getting snowed in, and if you think the Nightkin are struggling to hold it together now, imagine what happens when a few of them catch cabin fever.
Another plus for Jacobstown is if they expanded their borders, they could also include Ruby Hills Mine and Silver Peak Mine, the former would provide even more clean water and the later, if it still has any ore to mine, would provide another source of income, especially if the Super Mutants were to make a deal with the Followers of the Apocalypse, whose safe house is at the base of the mountain
Great points, using mines up the in the mountains would be smart. Super mutants run protection and move heavy items, humans can navigate the more tight areas and develop systems for moving the resources.
@nvRanger exactly, and outside of any pressure from the major factions like the NCR and Legion, most of the threats in the area can easily be cleared out with an organized effort from the Super Mutants.
Having Mutants on your side is such a benefit. Look at Westside having meansonofbeesh. Clearly useful. I bet they can take a cazador sting or two, as well.
On that note of mining Markus himself and likely a few of the supermutants following him are experienced in mining and managing mining operations, so they'd take to the job rather easily and be able to educate new employees with minimal outside assistance.
Lived LV for 12 years. The summers are brutal. You won't really survive with access to clean water and lots of it. The nice thing about Mt Charleston aka Jacobstown is that its so much cooler in the summer. In the winter is can get real cold and windy, though. Anyways yeah its the only S tier place to live in New Vegas. Something else of note. The ground in the valley is like concrete. You cant just grab a shovel and go to town. No, you better have a pickaxe or better yet a jackhammer. Growing food is going to be a major challenge.
Great to get a locals perspective. ALso that's a good point with the farming, the land certainly doesn't seem very forgiving. That's what I was trying to get at around the 188 when talking about farming. Realistically, I think most people, including myself, would die long before figuring out how to grow crops in such an already naturally desolate region.
@@nvRangerI've read part of the journals of some of the first white settlers in the area (New Canaanites, believe it or not). It's really funny because every entry is "it was too hot today, so we didn't do anything" until the point where they just gave up and went back to utah
The ground didn't USED to be like concrete. Las Vegas means "The Meadows" it used to get washed over with water every spring by water from the Colorado. That is - until they put LITERAL concrete in front of it - and named it after Herbert Hoover. Then, Las Vegas became the true desert we recognize today :)
fascinating, I have heard the translation of The Meadows before and I knew the Colorado flooded many areas prior to dams, but I hadn't considered how that would have made the land more fertile.
The way to survive is quite simple, if not risk free. Head towards the sunset sarsaparilla headquarters, use the printing press to create as many caps as you can carry, and take the first caravan into California. The legion will probably win without the courrier, but they probably won't make it to the hearth of the NCR before Caesar dies of his tumor and they fall apart. You get to live a relatively comfortable life as a wealthy citizen of the NCR.
If I recall the Crimson Caravan company was really upset about fresh bottle caps in circulation because they want to avoid devaluation via inflation, there's even a quest in game to help them find someone doing exactly that and eliminate them So on the surface great idea but you maybe wouldn't last very long doing that
@ianboyer-eichert2798 There is, and I always found it odd that there wasn't an option to if not keep it for your own use then at least use it before you break it. Regardless, considering how the courier isn't even there to accept the quest and how many other quests need to be done before you even get offered it you should have enough time to get a pretty sizable fortune before they send a merc after you.
@@mateusmessias360 that's definitely true, I was always left wondering after that quest why you couldn't just purposefully mess up the caps after. It seems like the fact that the caps looked new is what caused suspicion, I wonder why you couldn't just take some sandpaper to them to damage the caps, essentially doing the wasteland equivalent of laundering caps
That would work but for how long exactly? The NCR can't feed its massive population and are slowly bleeding and wasting their resources, unless you become a rich brahmin baron highly doubt you'll be able to start a ranch without being harassed by raiders or the Barons
>no courier If there's still the war going on? Cause all in game evidence points toward the legion having a decisive victory without courier intervention, which mean fuck the mojave I'm getting out of here
The game points to a legion victory IF Caesar survives. He's already having serious symptoms from his tumor when the courier shows up. If the legion doesn't push the dam before Ceasars condition fades, the NCR will have a window back in
Caesar may die without Courier intervention, but Lanius will take his place and the invasion of the Mojave will go ahead. And they 100% will win. Whether they hold it is another matter, as the Legion will probably fall apart rather quickly, but in the immediate future the Legion will win.
I'm sure Mr. House would have some kind of plan to maintain control over New Vegas even if the Courier did not exist or simply got killed by Benny at the start of the game. It would be very dumb if he didn't.
6:14 a bartender would make the best mayor. you dont think all of good springs goes to the bar on saturday nights to talk and hang out? plus their all drunk so trudy knows theyre wants and needs and opinions. also for sloan, its a mining town, theres not much to expect, its a few cheap shitshacks built by the NCR so the miners didnt have to sleep outside. you could throw in the fact that living in sloan would mean you work at a quarry for your job, but since its shut down due to deathclaws, they arent getting paid for their work, which makes this place even more unliveable. snuffles makes it liveable though. (sorry if i came off as rude)
I think I made that point about Sloan, but all good. Regarding Trudy, it's a fair point but I don't think the person running the place should also be a business owner in town. That has curruption written all over it.
@@nvRanger its a small enough town where everyones friends, its more of a community than a town, and its like one of those places that traders stop, shop, drink and sleep. i have no lore evidence other than common sense, vipers shouldnt be much of a problem as most merchants are well armed and well geared. powder gangers wouldnt be too difficult, theyre neutral but most people do the goodsprings quest and get bad rep.
They’re neutral to the Courier, true. But they have sacked caravans and they do lead an assault on Goodsprings. If you have what they want, they’re basically raiders.
The only 2 things I think you may have missed: Goodsprings: some of the towns people need convincing to help in defeating the powder gangers. I think this is aread flag for a lack of stong comunity. You have to convince Chet, Doc M, and Easy Pete to share their suplies to help fight off murderous ex-convicts. They must really not care about the lives of their neighbors. It's probably caused by a lack of leadership to bring the town together. Goodsprings cant go above B for this reason IMO. Jacobs town: I think being a human is advantageous, it lends more legitimacy to what Marcus is trying to acheive with his comunity for all, if theres more humans in town.
Nice video! I would also mention Eastside, Westside, North Vegas and Strip as settlements. Eastside is well-secured, has great food supplies and potential for establishing new businesses. Westside is a crime den, but also a heaven for work opportunities. North Vegas is in a rough shape with little to do about it. And lastly, Vegas is great for living, but a pain to actually settle down there and make money (without stripping naked)
Dude so much potential with this topic, id love to see this for vegas, freeside, west side, outer vegas, and various abandoned places. Like ranches, shacks sheds, prospectors camps, maybe even unconventional locations that don’t immediately appear as shelter. Like jean skydiving or the numerous caves in nevada.
Just thought about a F minus town. Searchlight, everything’s dead, irradiated, and feral ghouls everywhere. So yea at least Nipton is habitable in comparison.
@ yea Searchlight was considered but didn't make the cut for that exact reason. Sad cause its one of, if not THE largest town in game beyond the urban area.
hmmm, maybe some artistic inspiration there. I often think places like Jacobstown and Black Mountain make NV feel a little more Fantasy than most other Fallout games. You have have different races occupying different areas of the map. Instead of Dwarves in the MT's, it's mutants.
@@nvRangerI find that tracks a lot closer to the original fallout games' world building, where say the ghouls have an entire city to themselves. The wasteland is not a very accepting place to those who are different
@@RainytheNB Yea they were definitely eestablishing something similar there. Fallout 3 also has the museum "underworld" for ghouls. Something about New Vegas using specific Geography to tie different groups to makes it unique in this regard tho. Mutants are largely in Mountains (like dwarves), Ghouls are trying to escape to a new world and are almost immortal (like elves), and humans are at war with eachother. Very LOTR/Witcher
I think my ideal option would be to try to convince Marcus to make me an accountant or logistic manager. It’s something that a human would be more proficient at than a super mutant or ghoul along with being kept out of harms way & not requiring much physical labor. Even if the NCR invades I feel like they would be prone spare a noncombatant human.
That's a great plan and I think it would work out. I also thought the same about the NCR sparing you. You could even hide in a closet and say the mutants were getting ready to eat you if things go south 😂
Yeah, you’d probably be the one accounting supplies and managing the labor, but seeing as Marcus and Keene already manage super mutants it’s safe to assume their commune would barely use one even for efficiency sake. If anything they’re needing someone for repairs and maintenance, as a whole half of the resort has been boarded off, several bungalows are boarded up, etc.
Novac has always been my go to, there is a repair and ammo bench nearby and a vendor to sell your crap and youre very close to the Abandoned Brotherhood of Steel Bunker so you can lug all the gold bars there easily after Dead Money
Plus with Boone and Vargas keeping watch, it would be much easier to sleep soundly at night. Just have to take out Jeannie May and it’s not a bad life!
A rare win for my recommendations, this is the type of content I love. While I might not necessarily agree with all of your points, they were well explained, and you were well spoken. I almost want a similar video now about the potential of these settlements, and others depending on who takes Vegas. Either way, subscriber gained
Love it, thank you for the kind words. Next, I'm gonna do a similar video for the neighborhoods around the Strip, but I like the idea of playing out potential futures for specific locations based on endings.
Great vid! Not that it makes much of a difference to the rank, but im gonna point out that the NCR/Great Kahn stand off in Boulder City is only happening because of the Courier's adventure, as they were the ones helping Benny. If we're assuming the Courier doesn't exist like you were saying, then it's unlikely they'd be there
Gosh, I never thought of the possibility of expanding the Grub'n'Gulp. Good point! And, yes, I agree - Jacobstown really is the most appealing place to live. Especially if you like fresh air and pine forests! I'm sure the mutants would appreciate people who can do fine detailed work, too - mechanics, bookkeeping, anything that benefits from having small hands!
Absolutely, the mutants would probably be easily impressed (not marcus) if you could fix something up that there hands were too big for, or brain too small for lol. I hadn't thought about Grub n' Gulp much prior to this video but it and the 188 are relatively new locations, so I think there's plenty of opp for them to grow.
Awesome vid, hope this blows up on the algorithm! I love this topic niche, it reminds me of Any Austin, definitely worth extrapolating, e.g "best farms in new Vegas" "following the roads in NV" "strongest military base in NV" etc etc
Novac is my dream town. It’s so beautiful, sat on a highway so it has good trade, good people, real peaceful, realistic for a wasteland. The Fallout 2 OST Dream Town fits Novac like a glove. ❤
An underrated aspect of living in Goodsprings is Victor, as though he moves from place to place, he only does so once the courier arrives and has been living there for years and can help defend against geckos. Even if he does leave, his body stays (as it just transfers to a different body) so Im sure a handyman would be able to fix it up and put a new personality into it or something
Good point, if Benny could figure out how to get Yes Man working (think he had help from the followers but idk) then it’s possible. He might leave town if the courier is actually killed by Benny
I like Novac a lot actually!! You got Cliff as a vendor, the town's protected by two snipers, Old Lady Gibson is nearby, and you can rent a motel. Dr. Ada Strauss is sketchy but No-Bark>>Life. I'd probably offer to help The McBrides out with their farming/brahmin in exchange for a place to sleep if I couldn't afford a motel. I'd be homies with Ranger Andy, Daisy, No-Bark, and Manny :)
Great analysis! Charletown is also my favorite town, espeacaiily in a modded gameplaythrough with a lot of revamps or overhauls. One settlement that seem to be left out is the mojave outpost.
Appreciated! I left out the Mojave Outpost intentionally as it’s more of a military/government installation. I don’t think the NCR would let you post up or move in. We’ll save it for another faction specific video.
In my personal opinion... A relatively decent place would be the houses close to the NCR farms. You actually get to see in game patrols constantly surrounding the area. They would indirectly serve as some kind of neighborhood police. Also, the farms are a very important place for the NCR so it's not like they would simply give up in case of some sort of attack. The biggest problem would be the radiated water plant... But you can solve that in its quest haha
Jacobstown is like the Switzerland of New vegas. Small but very well defended for its size making it an unappealing place to try to conquer, and snowy mountains.
Good point, I think the NCR would lose a lot of soldiers trying to take it. Especially if the nightkin stick around. Not a good move if they lose a ton of ppl in both battles of Hoover dam as well.
Idk, when I look at Goodsprings I feel like this is close to S-tier. When it comes to Goodsprings source, it is implied that Sunny Smiles tells people not to come up alone, meaning you could ask her for help to get water. There is farming and ranching, which is great, Sunny can teach you how to shoot as one can use the argument that Sunny teaches the courier. People do look up to Trudy, which gives her a good amount of authority and she can easily rally the town together against powder gangers since everyone in town has a gun. Also there is no guarantee that powder ganger threat will be extremely high since they are very unorganized and if they do run out of food, I think it wouldn’t be too far fetched to say people will start deserting before any proper movement could be made. Also following a quest the courier can do, one can see that the NCR does plan on attacking the correctional facility, so even if NCR loses, the powder gangers would likely be severely weakened. This would be my argument for S-tier, but I’m happy with A-tier.
Fair enough, you make a good case. If the Legion wins the war it leaves Goodsprings in a really bad position though, Jacobstown is much safer. You don’t need assistance to access water there either. I think the Powder Gangers are still a legitimate threat. The NCR moves slow. We already have one splinter group attacking at the start of the game. Just some safety factors that have to be considered and Jacobstown has less of them seemingly. Even if Goodsprings wins, your chances of catching a stray bullet or dynamite shrapnel go way up.
This might be my favorite fallout video in the last couple years lol. Seriously great job and pretty original concept too out well thought out answers :)
@ for sure homie. I’d love to see one about Skyrim next. Also I had a concept for fallout. What about a tier list of areas that you’d want to take over as a roving warlord hahaha
From my experience prior to watching, Novac seems pretty chill. A small tight knit community of friendly people who are welcoming to newcomers. So as long as you don’t bring your wife along I guess.
@@nvRanger I've contemplated doing something similar but for "How Big Is [This Place], Actually" like when you read lore and talk to people you get the feeling these places are supposed to be a lot bigger (like Whiterun especially)
I stopped 10 seconds in to say the best place to live in new vegas is the dumpster behind the bar in goodsprings. There’s even a mattress in the abandoned trailer around the corner
I like how you take train cars and railroads into consideration, given that in the lore of fallout there’s fixable cars, only stopped by progression and graphics in game.
I feel like any military trying to take out goodsprings are going to find it difficult for the same reason it’s still standing, the wildlife, the radscorpions aren’t traveling uphill into the cemetery and cazadores are hanging around their nests, truly only the powdergangers are a real threat because they’re stretched out as is and Goodsprings is a reliable source of water, shelter, and food. If the PGs played nice with Goodsrpings then they’d actually have a good spot for trade and rest. (Yeah, I like to write different scenarios in the game on free time, it’s fun really)
Third option secret for modded playthrough: Make your base and settlement (these are seperate, your base is like your village you use it for resource gathering, the settlement is different, it is more of combat defend type thing) East of Hoover Dam, using Leigon Expansion add 40% of the game map back to New Vegas and build up there
Not gonna lie to you boss, living on big mountain with tabitha and her super mutant friends sound good right now... they give me about... two, or three meals a day and probably water? aslong as I continue to fix their broken junk... sounds better than fighting the Convicts in primm
Camp guardian has massive potential for a settlement. With the knowledge you gain from exploring it, you could close off the parts of the cave infested with lake lurks and use the peak as a natural barrier to other threats.
I think it’s important to remember that the medical skills of the doctor in Novac, Ada Strauss, do not inspire confidence. Some things she says are straight up medical malpractice. While I would definitely utilize her services in a pinch, I don’t trust her outside of as a last resort.
She doesn’t say much for me, I checked her dialogue and she seems like a character who got content cut from her given the short development time. What are you referring to specifically, I’m curious.
@ Some of her lines are pretty innocuous, but I’d say most show that she’s not the best care provider. She says the following when you pay her for treatment. “That's not so bad. I'll have you looking good as new. I mean, what are the chances of me botching another routine procedure in the same day?” and “All right, I'll just get my scalpel here, and... ugh. Did I leave that sitting outside? Well, you know what? Free tetanus shot!” She says the following after you say you’re short on caps for treatment “Darn it! That money was going to help pay to get me some medical training.” If you ask her to not treat you, she says “Sometimes ignoring something is the best medicine” If you tell her you’re addicted to chems she says “Hey, pipe down. We can't talk about that here, out in the open.” and “Oh, you mean you want a cure. Oh.” Implying she’s providing narcotics to people who are addicted. There’s a few more lines that are suspect, but I think you get the point. Also, I got these from the fallout independent wiki, which I’m pretty sure has every line of dialogue for every character in the game. Obviously you have to make some sacrifices in the wasteland, and I don't really blame her for selling chems. You have to make a living somehow (and at least she's not Dixon), but there are other doctors who are actually competent elsewhere in the wasteland. Though, she's never actually done anything that lead to a bad patient outcome, in my experience.
The NCR mercs are there with Heck Gunderson. He wants to take the land for his ranching operation; he wants to grow so many brahmin than meat becomes a staple food on the strip. Jacobstown is the only patch of grass on the map large enough for that and he has a history of using mercs to secure lands ahead of conquest
The details are lore, but the conclusion is speculation. If it helps my case, the game let's you resolve the story by eating the rich. The main case against it is that it doesn't impact the end cards
22:45, I’d like to point out and say that Old Lady Gibson’s car park/maze/storage is a good source of metal to make defense and homes, not to mention to help repair any metal work within boarded up rooms and homes. If not, you can just adjust the car park to fit more things, put a tarp over and you’d essentially be homeless but it might be free and less work than what I said before
I like Novac, mostly because that is where I can get a motel room to store all of my stuff. But Goodsprings should be a calm place to live. Yeah, there are Cazadores up north, but you just don't go there and have no trouble. The place has housing, the place has a doctor (who can even cure shots to the head), there is trading. There is even safety, Easy Pete. There is community, there is work. They have water and food. Growth is also an option. Even their leadership follows something many small communities do. No elected mayor, but a town council. Whenever something important is happening, the people come together and decide as a group. Nipton is probably the biggest growth potential, considering it has a population of 1, and that guy has broken legs. Besides that, there is a group of Legion soldiers on first visit, but they move out and are quickly replaced with raiders. It was a properly populated settlement just days before. So the danger and population pretty much changed twice within a week. It wouldn't be a great place to join a community, but it would be a nice place to move a community into. Basically a location to clean out and take over, having the cleanup crew becoming the new militia. Jacobstown is quite welcoming to everyone, as long as you don't cause trouble. But that should be quite obvious everywhere. Sloan is indeed quite terrible. It is quite literally a work camp for the quarry nearby. Just a couple barracks, with no food or water supply, no entertainment, no medical services. Now if we're talking about "after the courier did their stuff and moved on", then Primm becomes safe and the I-15 is open again. And I need to know which animation mods you use, those reloads and run cycles are sweet.
The cazadores aren't the only predator you would have to worry about though. The Powder Gangers are absolutely going to be a problem that you can't ignore.
I know it kind of defies fitting into any one neat category, but I'm surprised you didn't consider Nellis Air Force Base since it really is more of a settlement than a military installation...and it would certainly rate an S given its safety and self-sufficiency.
I don't disagree BUT I don't think its an option given the preface because they are going to try to kill you before you ever get close. Beyond that, they make the Courier do all sorts of things before becoming one of them. I think the vast majority of people would die trying to reach Nellis or trying to become accepted. We'll cover them in a faction related video. You're right though, they got a good thing going on.
Goodsprings after you take care of the powder gangers. Is easily the most friendliest town. You have geckos to hunt as food and free water. Plus being a Filipino whose family has a farm. We tend to take care of bandits from time to time. If there's no militia in goodsprings. You can always step in to be the sheriff. If theres no courier, theres no accidental nuking in The divide. So the divide is pretty much a great choice, since Ulysses tend to praise it alot.
Before I watch my guess is Jacobstow, a Super Mutant protected town on the top of a mountain away from the war, and in the worst of its endings were a cure isn’t found they do have to abandon the town, but that means you would wander the wasteland with a bunch of Super Mutants
having mutants for Friends in the wasteland is a good deal, but it would limit you in where you can travel given many aren't tolerant of mutants. Westside might be an option. Don't wanna spoil but I think Jacobstown is a good choice
I will note that you said "if the legion wins, the legion might make an example out of Novac" but I think that considering if the legion wins half the population will be enslaved and the other half presumably either pressed into the army or killed (with a few exceptions, but being one of those is unlikely) I really don't know if it matters that much.
Not exactly how Legion territory is described. There are towns that function relatively normally within Legion territory. What we see of the Legion is the mobilized invading force. They conquer tribes and wipe identities, but there are towns like Novac with very safe trade routes for caravans and travelers.
Anyone else randomly been attacked by a death claw whilst at Groodsprings? Only happened to me once, and it came from the direction of the cemetery toward the saloon.
Any chance you'll do the cities/urban areas in this sale vein? Would also be nice to see faction rankings alongside or seperate from it. Nellis Airforce Base or Red Rock Canyon? Could make for some fun discussions I'd pick Westside, personally
Yo bro, this is such a banger content. Would you mind doing this type of video for towns and cities in not just other Fallout games, but also in Elder Scrolls games as well?
Absolutely, love me some Skyrim. i would have to familiarize myself with Oblivion and Morrowind more as I haven't played them nearly as much. Appreciate the suggestion
If I’m not mistaken and I’d have to check later, nipton has a hostile robot in one of the houses too. Soooo definitely keep the in mind when exploring your potential new home because majority of us being placed in fallout most likely wouldn’t have a fun time with that
Nelson is a Legion base by the time of New Vegas and Bonnie Springs is a Viper base. Grub & 188 are definitely questionable but I don't see any reason they can't expand. They're both setup to profit from the recent I-15 closing, so they could certainly grow into more traditional towns
You got it, though I think some others have benefits. Being surrounded by super mutants and night kin with very ew humans might drive some people nuts.
When it comes to ranching I think I could figure out how to breed mantises for there meat. Not easy but that can be said about surviving the setting in general.
Yea this is a difficult situation, so it’s good to get creative. Jacobstown, Goodsprings, and Novac are good relative to the rest, but they’re F tier compared to modern living in first world countries.
The abandoned brotherhood bunker was my favorite place to pretend to set up shop and display my goodies but once I tried to decorate all around the gun runners shop since I spent so much time showing up there but a glitch sent my hours of meticulously stacked stuff halfway into the ground and I quit the practice
Jacobstown seems like such a fire place to live. Nice scenery, colder environment, (some people don’t like it but I do) awesome log cabin aesthetic, plenty of food because of the Brahmin, and a bunch of mutant friends who nobody’s gonna screw with (except the NCR but their dumb mercenaries can be talked down in one sentence).
I personally would choose goodsprings as I think by just talking to them and saying "hey we should work on a defense plan in case of attack" then actualizing that would work.
I thought I mentioned the mongrels in the town hall. My b if I forgot. Bighorners up the hill are a good point. Could start a ranch with them if ya know how to wrangle
I definitely disagree with Nipton in F, since it fell from the inside (like others mentioned) -- but it would definitely be a struggle. No shot you could make it very livable on your own. No telling if Boxcar would get you killed if he survives as well. I think Primm is actually more workable rhan you might think -- those convicts there are a separate entity from the NCRCF crew, as we know from ingame dialogue. Thus, they arent getting any resupply, and are less familiar with the town than the locals. It would basically be a siege for a while, waiting them out and shooting them whenever a convict pokes his head out a door or window, but they could be slowly worn down.
Why do you disgree with F for Nipton? I know the story behind how it was sacked, that was understood during the ranking. I think the near by Vipers, Mongrels in the town hall, and the chance of the Legion returning are still far too relevant. Remember, this is an "in-real-life" scenario. Getting in gun fights is a horrible trait for a town, almost immediately docks it towards the bottom tiers. Same with Primm. The other towns don't put you in near instant life threatening scenarios.
I still agree Jacobstown is S, however I have a counterpoint to the defense point: Marcus makes it clear that he doesn't want the super mutants involved in town defense when the NCR sent mercs after them. He doesn't want to act in any violent way as to not give an organization reason to attack the settlement. While I think that they would fight if push came to shove, there would be a huge target on the town's back. However, I do think this would give us a great work opportunity as either town defense or (most likely) a diplomat/ambassador to deal with humans coming through the area with bad intentions (like that one quest in the game). And that would be an incredibly important role for you to have for long-term settlement growth. anyway, great video! I'm currently playing through NV for the first time and loving it! (My first Fallout game too!)
Wow, first time run on New Vegas. That’s awesome to read. I envy the first time novel experience. Yes I agree but the defense is more for wildlife/raiders. The NCR presents a large issue but even if a human pulls the trigger they will lie and spread propaganda that there’s an aggressive group of mutants in the mountains. Exactly why, like you said, a diplomatic position would be paramount. Great observations, especially for a first time player.
@@nvRangerit’s my girlfriend’s favorite game and she 100%-ed it a few months ago and it sounded really cool, she’s having a fun time watching me experience it. I like the idea of rebuilding these places. Honestly wouldn't mind a new vegas remake in fallout 4's engine that allows settlement building in some of these locations after you beat the game.
@@nvRanger same here it would be pretty cool i mean hell if you can rebuild the fort why not nipton? i think someone is working on a fan made project though
6:12 "I don't think it's the best thing for a town to have a bartender as their leader" REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE! It's like another January 6th!
I think the grub n' gulp was ranked a little too high in safety, in most of my games neither of the merchants live long after the courier angers the legion. There's always a hit squad near the grub n' gulp and I think that shows how easily the legion sack the place if there was something they wanted there, like an enemy to the legion.
That's a fair point however this video supposes the Courier doesn't exist/dies in Goddsprings. So, they are never there to anger the Legion and attract them towards the Grub n' Gulp.
u could argue sloan taking everything they have and setting up at goodsprings would make use of those houses and increase security, productivity with pure manpower until the route is deathclaw free.

Nay. Sounds like a carnival is in town in the background that occasionally drowns you out. It would be better if it was toned down by maybe 50% just to provide a subtle backing, rather than competing with your voice for dominance of ear attention.

@@nvRanger Hmm, listening back to it, it's not that it drowns you out, its that the music track isn't balanced on both sides. I visited several of these locations when I went to visit Vegas. Primm, funny enough, was actually posting ads for a new Sherrif.
That’s amazing. I’d love to do a New Vegas irl tour one day. Vegas is a lot cooler than many give it credit for. Not all gambling and nonsense.
What I find so funny is Primm has the whiskey pete casino, which has the Bonnie and Clyde death car. I love how they made the Vicky and Vance a part of that.

The first time I flew into Las Vegas, I took a picture from my airplane of the gravel pit where I am *certain* there are dozens of deathclaws.
maybe they're contained there for the new Zoo!
Right. Shows the danger the Legion poses. Traditional defense mean little to the towns they target.
@@nvRanger Lol Vulpes calling himself 'Mr Fox' that's so on the nose

One point of consideration for Jacobstown - snow. Game begins in Oct and there's already snow on the ground. Later in the season there's a real risk of getting snowed in, and if you think the Nightkin are struggling to hold it together now, imagine what happens when a few of them catch cabin fever.
Great point, we don't get much indication with seasonal changes but one could imagine it gets a bit nuclear wintery up there.
Melt the snow for water, terrible for crops though, you’d have to import for the winter
Imagine new vegas game set in winter
All roads lead to Broken Hills

Elon musk is digging a bunch of tunnels here, and I don't envy the crew that's working on that lol
If I recall the Crimson Caravan company was really upset about fresh bottle caps in circulation because they want to avoid devaluation via inflation, there's even a quest in game to help them find someone doing exactly that and eliminate them
So on the surface great idea but you maybe wouldn't last very long doing that
@ianboyer-eichert2798 There is, and I always found it odd that there wasn't an option to if not keep it for your own use then at least use it before you break it.
Fiends are all around there, I think you died right away. Pile of ash blowing away in the wasteland😅
That would work but for how long exactly? The NCR can't feed its massive population and are slowly bleeding and wasting their resources, unless you become a rich brahmin baron highly doubt you'll be able to start a ranch without being harassed by raiders or the Barons
>no courier
If there's still the war going on?
Cause all in game evidence points toward the legion having a decisive victory without courier intervention, which mean fuck the mojave I'm getting out of here
Are you sure? Why is that
The game points to a legion victory IF Caesar survives.
Good Springs is the best because I can go there in real life and go ti the saloon filled with Fallout Gear
hopefully that gear saves you from a Powder Ganger invasion when Chet turns you down for gear
i always go to see Doc Mitchell for a heal if I can help it. always makes me feel all warm and cozy coming back home
Video like this are why I randomly start a new vegas run a few times a year
Love it, we gotta keep this game alive.
The only 2 things I think you may have missed:
Goodsprings: some of the towns people need convincing to help in defeating the powder gangers.
Yea I will cover the boroughs of New Vegas in a different video. Definitely some unique advantages and disaadvantages of those locations.
Westside even has a supermutant as part of their militia. And he is a mean SoB

Didnt realise until now how much the area surrounding Jacobstown looks like the Jerall mountains around Bruma
hmmm, maybe some artistic inspiration there. I often think places like Jacobstown and Black Mountain make NV feel a little more Fantasy than most other Fallout games. You have have different races occupying different areas of the map. Instead of Dwarves in the MT's, it's mutants.
That area looks so weird and doesn’t feel like a real mountain
Bitter springs…
Goodsprings is the coziest place to live. I'd live there and nowhere else, despite whatever deficits it may have.
Fair, hanging around mutants all day could be stressful. Goodsprings is definitely the most homey/relaxing
Great vid! Not that it makes much of a difference to the rank, but im gonna point out that the NCR/Great Kahn stand off in Boulder City is only happening because of the Courier's adventure, as they were the ones helping Benny. If we're assuming the Courier doesn't exist like you were saying, then it's unlikely they'd be there
great point, maybe the courier just dies and Benny still ends up in Boulder City.

hopefully it gives you the follow up for the neighborhoods around the strip, thanks for watching and commenting

Novac is my dream town. It’s so beautiful, sat on a highway so it has good trade, good people, real peaceful, realistic for a wasteland.
The Fallout 2 OST Dream Town fits Novac like a glove. ❤
It’s a really cool place, different vibe than the other desert towns too. Almost a mix of Fallout 3 and New Vegas
He might leave town if the courier is actually killed by Benny
business idea:sell credit card from old world and tell people that they are caps in a card form

random NPC behavior needs to be studied, that woman is alive and trapped in new vegas.
This is an extremely underrated video. Nice job man!!
Thank you! Very kind
I agree, Sharecropper farms are great and there are boarded p houses nearby. Only issue is getting the NCR to let you join that opperation.
@@nvRangersimply do not join the operation

Free tetanus shot!”
She says the following after you say you’re short on caps for treatment “Darn it! That money was going to help pay to get me some medical training.”
If you ask her to not treat you, she says “Sometimes ignoring something is the best medicine”
If you tell her you’re addicted to chems she says “Hey, pipe down.
Between you and me... I don't think she's studied at an accredited institution.
This lore or speculation? I like it either way

22:45, I’d like to point out and say that Old Lady Gibson’s car park/maze/storage is a good source of metal to make defense and homes, not to mention to help repair any metal work within boarded up rooms and homes. If not, you can just adjust the car park to fit more things, put a tarp over and you’d essentially be homeless but it might be free and less work than what I said before
Good point but I think you’d have to make a deal with her. Might cost ya to use her scrap/location.
I always assumed that the extra houses were boarded up to keep the geckos and cazadores out
yea you probably don't want to allow wildlife to nest in town. Thats a good point
Its 2025 and people disect the living conditions of Towns in Fallout new Vegas
And Help me god, im all Here for it . Ave true to Caesar
Ave, amicus.
Video is really cozy
love it
Anyone else randomly been attacked by a death claw whilst at Groodsprings?
Only happened to me once, and it came from the direction of the cemetery toward the saloon.
No I haven’t tbh😅 That one in the video was the result of a mod I believe.
Any chance you'll do the cities/urban areas in this sale vein? Would also be nice to see faction rankings alongside or seperate from it. Nellis Airforce Base or Red Rock Canyon? Could make for some fun discussions
I'd pick Westside, personally
Coming soon!
Soooo definitely keep the in mind when exploring your potential new home because majority of us being placed in fallout most likely wouldn’t have a fun time with that
There’s a hostile Mr Gutsy type robot and one with booby traps and radscorpions. Definitely another negative for the town. 👍
Goodsprings. If something happens to you the people will take care of you.
Yea they have a top tier community. Huge plus as long as the powder gangers don’t wipe them out.
I wouldn't describe the 188 or Grub n Gulp as towns, however there are 2 towns missing, Nelson and Bonnie Springs
Nelson is a Legion base by the time of New Vegas and Bonnie Springs is a Viper base.
Grub & 188 are definitely questionable but I don't see any reason they can't expand. They're both setup to profit from the recent I-15 closing, so they could certainly grow into more traditional towns
I don't even have to watch this video to know that Jacobstown is far and away the best place to live. Like it isn't even close.
Jacobstown, Goodsprings, and Novac are good relative to the rest, but they’re F tier compared to modern living in first world countries.
i love all the austin-likes popping up on youtube, this kind of content is tight as fuck
Appreciated, Any Austin is the man.
Would love to see this on the other fallout games aswell. Prob wont be as unique as NV but would be fun to see your perspective on it!
Absolutely in the pipeline. Lots to cover. TES as well
@nvRanger Hype!! Looking forward to it. Keep up the good work ❤️
@ Will do 🫡 thanks!
The abandoned brotherhood bunker was my favorite place to pretend to set up shop and display my goodies but once I tried to decorate all around the gun runners shop since I spent so much time showing up there but a glitch sent my hours of meticulously stacked stuff halfway into the ground and I quit the practice
yea it would be nice if new vegas had a settlement building type system for those scenarios. Tons of places could use personal custimization
Just get in good with mr house somehow and you have a suite in the lucky 38
I don’t think he’s letting a single one of us in. Courier is a special case. He’s never let another soul have access without them.
This is a neat video
glad you think so, thanks
@@nvRanger whens the next one coming out? I'm interested to hear how Westside ranks.
This one took a a lot of work and time but if it performs well, boroughs of New Vegas ranked is next and hopefully in a week or so👍
@nvRanger that's faster than I thought, you earned a subscribe amigo.
Appreciated
Once you clear out primm of the powder gangers its in better shape than Primm today😂
lmao, sad to hear. Seems like such a cool little town
@@nvRangeridk what commenter is talking about
Jacobstown seems like such a fire place to live.
I LOVE Jacobstown, its got such a different energy compared to the rest of the game, being in the mountains and the whole safet aspect etc
Absolutely, feels like you’re in a different world, tucked away. Town of Big green and blue mutants covered in snow and green pines.
I personally would choose goodsprings as I think by just talking to them and saying "hey we should work on a defense plan in case of attack" then actualizing that would work.
Not a bad plan, they seem reasonable. Gotta go in with some irl charisma.
16:45 what about all the dogs the legion left in the town hall or the wild big horners just up the hill outside of nipton?
I thought I mentioned the mongrels in the town hall. My b if I forgot. Bighorners up the hill are a good point. Could start a ranch with them if ya know how to wrangle
@nvRanger you mentioned them but not as a food source
@@mappingshaman5280 LMAO fair enough. I think its more likely we end up as their food source if you're taking them on alone
great fun video bro!
thanks a lot for taking the time to say as much
Goated keep this up king
🙏
I want to play some of her other fallout games when I’m done with this one, but there’s so much in this game I’m like always thinking about it lol (hence why I’m watching non-spoiler videos about it when I’m not playing it lol). Super excited for 5 whenever that comes out but that gives me time to catch up! :D
Ncr didn't send them
@@GunsAndAmmo3Maybe I’m remembering wrong bc I played the quest like 2 days ago but i believe in a dialogue option with them (maybe with a speech check? Maybe not idk) it’s revealed that the ncr sent them (I think they initially deny it/refuse to answer until you press them). Or maybe it was confirmed somewhere else or something bc the wiki says it too idk. 🤷🏻
Amazing. Now do the urban settlements!!
Coming soon!
When my buddy and I met up in Vegas, I asked him if he minded a 40 minute drive to grab lunch. You know damm well i took the rental car to Goodsprings Saloon 😂. It was awesome!
lol I'm sure it was well worth the drive. Gotta be so trippy walking up to that saloon. Sounds of Big Iron start playing in your head
14:58 me about to test out my new weapons there lol
with nipton i have mod that allows me to rebuild it so once its done i dont think it would be as bad
but overall i do agree with your list that jacobstown is the cream of the crop along with good springs and novac
Goodsprings. I got a good feeling about that tweaker the mysterious robot pulled out of the dirt
6:12 "I don't think it's the best thing for a town to have a bartender as their leader"
REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!
It's like another January 6th!
More videos like this love this
I enjoyed working on it, thanks for the feedback!
38:47 on the right, that look like an NCR outpost. I have never seen it or ever been up there before. Can you get there or is it a mod?
definitely from a mod, More Mojave potentially. I have never been up there personally
"Two former members of the NCR"
Ranger Andy: Am I a joke to you?
good point, ol' bum leg gonna go down takin out a few with him too
cool video! be sure to evaluate westside if you make a similar video about the urban areas, kind of a small place but worthy of consideration for this
Thank you, dropping that vid today! Westside included
@ awesome!! excited to watch
Yea I think that would be in their best interest, staying there seems like a bad idea for now
