    I love your podcast Kevin. One question regarding a big 6X Resistol 4” brim that I’ve had for a few months. Can this hat be trimmed and restyled to resemble the classic Open Road style?

    • @KTGHATS
      @KTGHATS  2 месяца назад +1

      Maybe, probably not.. a hatter would have to deconstruct the hat down to just the felt, take the shape out, the he’d have to
      reblock the crown, re-flange the brim, size it,stiffen it, out the sweatband in, sew on the ribbon and bow, and trim the brim. That’s a lot of work and it will be very expensive. It could be possible, yes. But it’s not really a modification, it’s more like totally stripping the hat down to it’s felt, and remanufacturing a different hat out of the felt…a complete restoration.
      I’d imagine the cost of all of that would be $200 or so,you’d be way better off buying a new one. Delmonico has 15% off now. That’s a nice sale.

    Looks brand new. A good hat will take the rain without any worries.

    That was fantastic! What an amazing difference. My husband has an Eddy Bros that was in a cattleman style...he prefers the Gus style. I had not much trouble reshaping it over my teakettle; the crown stays put, but the brim tends to slightly curl back up and lose the front & back dips. It is Durofelt. Any hints how to make it stay?

    Great video, once again, Kevin. Feel like I've learnt so much from watching your channel over the years.
    Do you have any opinion on the Pure Stratoliner? I have a regular Stratoliner (in Sage) and an Akubra Stylemaster; the Stylemaster is my 'everyday' hat (going to work, etc) because it feels more 'substantial' and hardy owing to the felt, but if pushed I prefer the cut and the feel of the Stratoliner, so that's my 'luxury' hat. I've been eyeing up a Pure Stratoliner lately (either in Blue or Tobacco). Would that hit the sweet spot between my love of the regular Stratoliner and the hardiness of the Stylemaster, do you think?

    • @KTGHATS
      @KTGHATS  2 года назад +3

      There’s no comparison in heartiness. Akubra crushes it, get it because u want a nice stratoliner, but don’t expect it to be hearty or do well in the rain like an Akubra, I’m not a fan of Stetson open roads myself,if you’re looking for hearty, go Akubra..
      if u want something that has the open road look, get an open road, but that felt isn’t really rugged or strong..
