Hopefully a team comes along that actually appreciates the car, posts about it, and actually releases merch for it like almost every other damn GTP/HYPERCAR in the world
Why haven't you mentioned Andretti? I realize they're partnered with Wayne Taylor for Acura, but their long-term goal is to be partnered with Cadillac/GM in F1. That same partnership in WEC would only make sense, especially given WEC's governnance by the FIA. Basically their participation in yet another world-class championship to force FOM's hand.
I didn’t because sources and myself believe that they aren’t on the radar, and I don’t expect Andretti to leave WTR, nor sign with a rival manufacturer while competing with Acura. Personally I just don’t see it happening, but hey! Anything can happen in motorsport so we never know!
@FormulaJonah I'll have to look it up but IIRC, wtr was or already moved their operations to the andretti compound in Indiana. It's pretty much a full merger at this point.
@@FormulaJonah WTR was already partnered with Cadillac before switching to the ARX-05 in 2020. Prior they were Cadillacs so a move back would not be unprecedented. Especially considering the ARX-06 is having an increasing worse performance.
For people wondering, Graham Goodwin, wec commentater mentioned on his podcast that Cadillac put its programm up for bid and action xpress won the Imsa bid. Nothing more than this. The WEC programm is still up for bid
What happens to teams like Penske and Gannassi is that they expect the manufacture to fund EVERYTHING dealing with the team. GM probably wants Some Gannasi Skin in the game
Wild theory: Andretti Autosport split with Wayne Taylor Racing and go through with their Cadillac partnership in WEC instead of in F1. Michael Andretti possibly purchasing shares in Indycar could throw a spanner in the works though. But If one of Taylor's Acuras goes to Ganassi and Ganassi's Cadillac goes to Andretti, the car count in IMSA wouldn't change.
@@YuriJohnson i thought i saw that andretti had already purchased european facilites for their f1 program. They cant use them for f1 for a bit, so basing caddy's WEC program out of it wouldnt be a bad idea
It was a very strange year in 2023 for the 01/3 car. They had good pace, probably outright faster than the Action Express car, but they kept crashing or having mechanical problems. Retired from a comfortable lead at Sebring, crashed in Spa, Long Beach, Watkins Glen and Mosport. They kept making costly mistakes all year long.
Yes, the repetitive crashing has been a curiosity. As I recall, last year's Le Mans was a crash out too. Sebastien Bourdais does seem to be a damn the torpedoes, full speed ahead type of guy with the old crash, boom, bang awaiting at many a corner. But what do I know? He's a rehire for this year, thus Ganassi must be satisfied with him.
@@Coasterlocity At Spa, the crash was caused by an electrical failure in the steering, as the Ganassi team stated afterwards. There have been situations when a(n unnecessary) driver error caused a crash too
Another EVOLUTION for My Cadillac's. 2/3 Cadillac's in IMSA, WITH 2 CADILLACS in WEC, I would Love To Watch "MY CADILLACS" ACHIEVEMENTS . . . THANK YOU CADILLAC, YOU ARE ACHIEVING WHAT I WANTED TO DO.
I do remember them having had a lot of trouble/bad luck/crashes, especially the yellow one was in bits quite often. I'm glad Cadillac continues the program, since it's a pretty cool car to look at and hear and it's not like CGR are just gone entirely.
I wouldn't be surprised if Wayne Taylor Racing goes back to Cadillac, especially since Honda doesn't want to support a factory team in the WEC and Wayne Taylor wants to participate in the WEC and Le Man! But we'll see.
Nah, Andretti getting that two car funding isn't gonna be put to waste. I'm sure Wayne would love to get back with GM, but Honda and Michael are steering that ship currently
I ultimately think this is a good thing. The team having to focus resources on a single entry in imsa and a single entry in wec was just not a good strategy. It made the WEC effort feel half baked and not as committed as they could be. They seemed stretched too thin, and especially in WEC are just totally outnumbered by the other factory teams. All it essentially took is a single screwup, one lockup at t1, one contact with another car, and that was cadillac entirely out of contention for the race. Having a single team like action express handle imsa, and a new team to handle a 2 car effort in WEC is definitely the way to go. Each team can solely focus on their series and put all resources into developing for those specific tracks.
Would love see CGR back in the WEC with two 'Hondas'! Would make some sense given the Indy links. Whoever end up running it though, really hope this change eventually sees two Caddies in WEC too
I feel like Chipster doubles down with the Indy Honda relationship and take the Acura ride and finally gets Honda over to WEC. I thought Andretti would try to come over to keep leveraging the GM relationship, but this makes sense. Rhe Whelen Engineering car always absolutely crushes it!
Cadillac looks set to part with Andretti in F1, however they seem to not be partnering for IMSA. Currently WTR and Andretti have a strong partnership in IMSA
Maybe Andretti takes over the hypercar team. They were already in agreement for an F1 bid. Maybe give a few years as the hypercar team and F1 will warm up to them a bit more. For Gannasi maybe they go down a level and back to Ford? I don't think they want to leave imsa. They've been a foundation piece for that series for decades now. They won't back it all up.
Might Andretti and CGR swap manufacturers? Andretti seems to be interested in NASCAR and F1, both with GM teams, and it might make sense with United possibly coming over
Maybe Caddy will tie with Andretti (Michael would have to give up the Wayne Taylor relationship)... but..... That would give the Caddy and Andretti F1 bid more "value" to teams and Liberty Media
Didn't Michael Andretti try to bring them into formula one as a title sponsor? Could cadillac be considering something with Andretti for F1 in 2026 and cutting down on endurance racing to save money for that? This is just pure speculation from me and I could be completely wide of the mark.
Caddie are mad that the 2nd team not the "factory effort" won imsa and doesnt seem to be rooting for the caddie like AXR hopefully TF sport takes the caddie to fully run GM cars
@@scuckplexity Maybe it is, but let's be honest who is a bigger more resourceful team? CGR or AXR? The thing is, CGR never pulled a full season championship bid and as GM you would feel your brand isn't being fully shown and marketed. Let's not forget, Cadillac was THE CAR to dominate in DPi it was like the defacto champion and despite being begged back in the last 2 seasons in DPi it was still solid. In LMDh it seems like a good car isn't being used to full potential. Just my 2 cents yk.
I'd also imagine they are not super thrilled with the WEC efforts, only fielding a single car and having lots of screwups at the beginning of races that completely put them out of contention. This really does seem like a good decision, having a different team handle 2 entries in wec, and another team handling the 2 imsa cars. They can fully focus on their series, instead of being stretched so thin and getting dogpiled by the other factory efforts that are in it 100% and outnumber them 2 or 3 to 1..
