Porsche Penske Motorsports 963 GTPs battled wheel to wheel with the 31 Whelen engineering Cadillac V-series R LMDh for overall victory at the 2024 Rolex 24 hours at Daytona International speedway.
Join me as I analyze this incredible battle.
Wake up babe, new Grooved Slick race analysis just dropped
😂
This is my favorite channel. The TV coverage of some these events leaves a lot to be desired- thank you!!
Thats very kind, glad you enjoy!
He returned when we needed him the most!
All 4 classes had amazing battles throughout the whole race.
I know! I wish I had the time to make videos about them all
If only Imsa would hire you to make videos for them officially 😤
That was an exhilarating race and an awesome recap of the titanic duel of the juggernauts!
Those last 10 minutes watching the Porsche get loose in t1 more than once with the Caddy right behind was heart pounding stuff!
Hell yes! This race was a blast to watch, even with all the confusion in the end. The 7 and 31 battle was a nailbiter!
Curious fact few people know: Nasr told in a brazilian podcast when he was leading on 1h30 left Porsche and Cadillac must do 2 pit stops to finish and when they get the first one, leaving the pits he felt something strange on new set of tires, much vibration on front right and told team on radio that was impossible to win the race with that set of tires and they need to change as soon as possible. Back on track with bad set he lost the lead to Cadillac and his plan was to keep following and save much fuel as possible. Then with 40 minutes left the yellow flag appeared and they went to pits. The pit crew made a amazing job and release him with a good set of tires in front of Cadiilac but team said on radio that they made the possible to let him leading again but HE DOESN’T HAVE ENOUGH FUEL to finish the race. So he used the final straight before bus stop to save fuel where he was opening a bit from Cadillac and team telling him they needed more saving. From 5 minutes to final Nasr was informed he could flatout again and victory become reality! What a history!
This is so great. It feels dangerous getting used to all this greatness coming from the new era of endurance racing.
We even have these kind of breakdowns on the battles and the strategy that led to the win after 24 hours. Amazing content!
a slight correction the 963s has a tt V8s
Exactly, Porsche is a V8 Turbo, not a V6 Turbo
yes! good catch, same as the 918 and rs spyder
one of the really nice things about watching this in person from the grandstands is being able to look ahead to the infield traffic as the gtp hit turn 1 and get a pretty good idea of where the class traffic falls and potential picks. excellent recap of the gtp finish!
one thing that I think shouldve been mentioned was the battle to stay on the lead lap for the #6 after Estre binned it, holding #31 up a bit and making him use his tires by running him hard/earning the pass, and in dirty air with less downforce. this didnt prove pivotal given the finish but made the restart after safety car very potent and the chase from #7 before the safety car very exciting.
also the heartbreak for the #5 binning it in turn 6 while getting the wave around. those 5 seconds or so wouldve put that car at the back of the gtp pack and wouldve been nice to see it in the mix for the last half hour.
there was a lot of drama built in to the finish with the structure of the ruleset. cannot say I am disappointed as a spectator. great era of motorsport is among us now
Yeah, I chose not to include that because the caution made the lapping of the 6 pretty anti climactic. Like the end of monty python holy grail. Building up to an epic duel just to have the safety car come out and split them up.
You should be an announcer for these events. Great analysis and commentary!
Also this new layout with all the information about the cars and the drivers with pictures is Amazing.....Please keep it!!!
Glad you liked that!
I was able to be there for my first Rolex 24(in person) it was amazing to see how at the start the Porsches did not look convincing as race winning contenders. But as night fell it became more and more clear that they definitely had the better strategy and drivers, my dad and I started to notice more and more that they were taking turns leading before letting the Cadillac gain again. Then, once the sun rose it was obvious that the Porsches had played the long gain from the start. What a race this year.
Thats awesome! Its so great to see that unfold in person. truly an incredible race
That transition from the tire smoke to the clouds was phenomenal!
really glad you liked that part haha 😅
Imsa should hire you or at least sponsor you because this stuff is exactly what we fans need. Too bad it’s owned by NASCAR and only cares about adds and take no effort in directing..
I really appreciate you taking your time to doing these analysis videos. I know for sure how much time it takes to make these and research them. 🎉
Really glad you are enjoying, and thank you so much for the support! I really appreciate it!
@@GroovedSlicki go to sooo many imsa races, these breakdowns are amazing
0:03 OK, how does that NOT get anyone's attention???
"Probably with the Jaws theme song in his head", what an imaginative narrative line! Absolutely awesome, it really created a mental image of the pursuing driver's POV.
Glad you liked that 😅
First time seeing a video of yours and loved the analysis. The TV coverage of this event was a bit lackluster, so I really appreciate the effort you put into this.
glad you enjoyed and welcome!
I will never get sick of watching Estre drive. Great video as always my man!
Me neither! Thanks!
It sucks that Estre couldn’t get that podium or win. Nasr and Campbell did an amazing job carrying the #7 963 to a win.
It is a hard pill to swallow that one mistake at a crucial time is enough to nullify almost 24h of hard charging and driving almost perfectly when cars and drivers are so closely matched.
@tjroelsma also the fact they had multiple penalties for using more energy than permitted. I think it was like 3
I was at this race and you called it so well in this video! Thanks!
Really was great watching my 2 favorite teams this year battle it out.
I waited for this video, thank you.
The last 2 hours of the race were awesome, I loved it
Just to rectify, the 963 has a twin turbo V8, not a V6 😎
Yeah, I thought it was a V-8 too. The 919 had a V-4!! Crazy...and they moded it to a EVO 1500HP variant.
This was the first Daytona 24 I've watched (I had watched previous years highlights though) and I didn't see all this action, thanks for this analysis, made a great race even better.
The action is stretched out over several hours and not continuously, so it's kind of hard to keep track. Like Estre going off was literally one moment four hours until the end and he rejoined the track, if you didn't catch that live with all the pitstop offsets you can't even tell they fell out of contention unless the commentators fill you in later.
glad you enjoyed!
That overtake at 1:18 remaining is something of beauty
I seriously like your videos. I saw the Rolex24 in real-time but it's nice to revisit the highlights.
Thanks!
What a career it was without a doubt for me.much better than last year not only in the fight for absolute victory also in the other categories
Great analysis as always, one of the commentators mentioned an interesting thing, apparently the #31 started leaving the pits with it's ICE instead of bump starting it after 12-ish hours, and they said it could be to spin the tyres more to generate more heat, do you think that was the case?
interesting thanks for bringing that to my attention, I love that kind of stuff. Before you read my answer, I just want to say its a total guess and I'm no expert, but I would be surprised if tire warming was why they did that because tire temps are very predictable, so if they could warm them more with the ICE they would do that in testing and the whole race especially throughout the night when it is coldest not just the second part. It sounds like they were on the electric motors for the first second and the ICE immediately bump started as they got moving rather than the engine being running and them dumping the clutch for a huge burnout. Maybe the wheelspeed is faster during the burnouts than on the pit lane limiter so that made the bump start easier on the drivetrain? as I said thats a total guess haha
@@GroovedSlick That's a really good guess, kinda funny that in this case instead of rev matching it would kinda be a wheel matching, which does sound easier on the drivetrain when i think about it
exactly, thinking more about it, thats what I think you would do if you had clutch issues@@SpaceManta_
@@GroovedSlick well now we have two possibilities so we could see if in the next race they continue spin-starting it or they just do a normal drive off and dumping the clutch, narrowing which one is more likely, excited for the next race even more now haha
7:12 Great sportsmanship by Aitken to indicate to make Estre aware of the slow cars ahead.
Estre always give us good battles! It's a shame the #6 have problems with the powertrain. Btw, amazing race and great video! I noticed the upgrades very nice👀
Estre always brings the action and glad you noticed, thanks!
Didn't get a notification from youtube for this video but finally saw it.
Great video once again. For me your channel is the best way to catch up to big motorsport events that I couldn't fully watch.
Thank you!
Best race coverage I’ve ever heard
It was super sad seeing Blomqvist's frustration at the end. It was pretty clear he was very angry for not being able to catch and overtake Nasr.
We ran into him right after the race ended. When my mom said congratulations he hit us with “i got 2nd place” in a really dissatisfied tone.
EPIC racing...great commentary. Thank you.
Dude this is exactly the kind of content we needed.....thanks a ton...Love all the way from India!!!
❤️ Glad you enjoyed thanks and hi from the USA 👋
I only watched the last 2 hours of the race, thanks for the video grooved
I'm new to your channel. Funny story I was watching the replay of 2023 Nurburgring 24 and somehow a recommendation slides up with big "ESTRE EFFECT" written in the thumbnail. As a fan of Estre himself, I didn't have any doubt and watched the video completely blown away by your content delivery and of course Estre big balls driving. Here I am reliving the 963 victory at Daytona and awaiting Porsche contetion for this year competition in IMSA and WEC! Hopefully they can put up some more fight during the fray in Le Mans. Love your content, keep up the good work man!
Really glad you're enjoying and thanks for the message! Fingers crossed for the 963 at le mans too!
The quality of this is insane
I know its a lot of work and POVs would probably be inaccessible... But have you ever considered making these kinds of videos about some banging endurance races from the past years?
This is by far my favourite racing content on YT keep it up dude!
I've definitely considered it (especially GTE/LM or LMP1) but for right now I think I get the most viewer interest from current races. I'd love to do some classic race in the future though
Great video man, been waiting for this one since the race finished.
Love the new driver info graphic
Thanks man, glad you liked that addition!
New favorite channel!!! Thank you!
What an amazing analysis, congrats!
thank you!
Brilliant analysis and coverage.
Wow the first time I’ve come across the channel and I watched the entire video.. great narrating and love you kept the sound of the cars and didn’t put some cringe background music.. thank you sir, definitely a subscriber now.. 👍🏽
Thanks! Really glad you enjoyed!
Love the commentary, keep it up.
This breakdown is awesome! Keep it up
The narration is ace! Thanks!
Been waiting the whole off season for this video.
Hope it lived up to the hype haha
what an excellent analysis. Thank you so much.
Fenomenal video. Please make it the same for GT classes too...
I enjoy your content, great Analysis and commentary as always!
Thanks!
Awesomeness as always!! Thanks mate!
Oh shoot, Grooved Slick race analyses are BACK
Awesome commentary!
Its insane how the most intense racing you get in these seasons are in the 24hr long events. Whether its Rolex, LeMan, Or the Green Hell. It seems you're guaranteed some absolute spectacle of wheel to wheel racecraft.
The shorter races seem to me to wind up more tame.
totally agree. we are spoiled with these incredible endurance races!
That v8 in cadillac sounds so good
thx more of every race this year pls
Great recap. There's only one thing that was missed which adds to the reasons why Blomqvist overtook Nasr right before yellow. Nasr ended up with a flat spot on his tire after locking his brakes which was creating vibrations on his car and was slowing him down. It's also another reason why his pace increased after the yellow flag pit.
I didn't realize that, makes sense! I knew estre had had a few lock ups but not nasr
i found u via the nurburgring video and my man , u make really good videos !
Incredible breakdown
This Race ending was B.S.! - I am a huge Porsche fan, but I have yet to hear any explanation from IMSA as to Why the Race was "Checker Flagged" with a 1:30 mins and 1 lap remaining.. Nasr & Blomquist needed to battle out one more lap and I didn't have a good feeling Nasr could hold him off on those failing tries... Was this IMSA gifting Rodger P. a long-awaited win?!! 😳
Love your second-by-second narration !!!
Best sportscar channel on youtube!
❤️
Wahoo! Grooved slick analysis video!
that was sick, very nice comentary
Cadillac actually has one of the coolest looking cars out there.
Yeahhhj, I was watching the race and already with your analisys in mind
Hope it lived up to expectations!
Been waiting for this one 🎉💪
💪💪
That lexus fire at around the last 50 min mark really did just screw caddies whole strategy up. Essentially removing any time they gained and putting porsche right next to him. Plus since they short fueled last time that allowed the porsche to undercut them this time. Newer tires + overtaking in the pits made it a very bleak situation for blomqvist. That's racing though, sometimes you gamble everything on red and you win, sometimes the wheel just lands on black. I'm still glad porsche is finding their pace after last year was pretty bad. Hopefully they'll carry this momentum into WEC and the racing will be a bit more close. As much as I love the fields in WEC if every race is just toyota blowing the competition out of the water it will start getting stale. Not saying toyota "cant" win, just that I want to see epic battles like in IMSA for the lead, not just for the last podium position while toyota are 2 laps ahead of everyone.
Bro this WHOLE FIGHT IRL WAS INSANE I love going to the Rolex
Must've been amazing, I'm jealous, was there in '23 and need to go back!
@@GroovedSlick aw bro you would have loved it. I was looking forward to your analysis hahaha. You should go next year!
Awesome video mate !
@medhyrenaudin1508 thanks for supporting the channel and becoming a member!!
I wish bop works at the Le Mans in favour of the Caddy. American success story at Le Mans is needed since last time when American macine took overall victory was '69 with Ford Gt.
tom blomqvist is an animal🔥what a pass
I'll miss him as a full season driver for sure
16:55 That Porsche 963 is also powered by a V8 - not a V6!
I will have 2 weeks of detention after school for this brainfart
Back with a bang‼️‼️‼️
That safety car weave restart strategy started in 2021 with Max and Lewis. Max first started doing it and it was very effective. So lewis started doing it. Now everyone is doing it.
Porsche's edge was in the driver's combo!
The king is back 🎉
Mr commentator 👌💯 good job
15:31 i captured this moment from the grandstands. Definitely my favorite moment i caught on film.
thats awesome! what a special moment
danx for your video :)
super good
Another banging video
Great video❤
Yesss I was waiting for this video
A1 content 🐐
great video! are you also doing an analysis for GTD/GTD Pro?
I'd really like to, but I don't think I have enough time to unfortunately
how do you get those onboards? I was looking for them while it was live and didn't find them. Great video btw! You got me into imsa with your last year's analysis.
Really glad to hear!
www.imsa.com/tvlive/ is where you can find them
@@GroovedSlickThanks man!
Was rooting for the #31 but gg to porsche
I really think the Penske Porsches found a loophole in the hybrid deployment system. With the #6 car having 2 penalties, and the #7 porsche gapping the Cadillac with no draft on the banking. I personally think its very suspect.
IMO I think they just pushed it right to the limit and thats why they went over a few times while the others were more conservative. They said that the overboost (or whatever you call it with a hybrid 😅) was happening through the bus stop over the curbs
tho i really like the video this triggered me haahah 16.57, "the turbo charge v6 of porsche..." porsche have a twin turbo v8 on the 963.
😂 total brainfart, please forgive me
😂 i really enjoy ur videos cant weit to see them when the WEC starts this year@@GroovedSlick
I’m just curious but do you have to have the copyright stuff to do the commentary?
I hope Porsche can do good cuz it's been 3 years or so this car has been out and it hasn't really done anything yet specially in the WEC it's been Toyota Toyota Toyota Toyota Toyota, hate those guys.
how am i so late to this upload fml
What’s the context on the clip at 0:24?
Happy for Porsche but wtf happened to BMW
hopefully not a sign of things to come
Estre always fumbles trying to push too hard too early
