Why is My 144Hz Monitor Running at 60Hz? So you got a monitor stuck at 60hz and you want to be able to get 144hz or higher but can't. Today we will cover all of the reasons why you are not getting the proper refresh rate from your monitor.

I put my settings on pc already on 1920x1080 and on 165 hz (as well on NVIDIA control panel) but in the game (Warzone) I can only choose between 60 hz or 120 hz while i put it there as well on 1920x1080...
My monitor should run it 100procent: Samsung G5 165 hz
Pc: Processor 11th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-11700K @ 3.60GHz 3.60 GHz
RAM- 16,0 GB

Hey I bought a monitor but I didn't like it so I returned it now I'm with my old monitor and my pc is stuck on 144hz but my old monitor is on 60hz so my pc is on black screen

i am on a fucking laptop doing nothing wrong. today it just randomly set it to 64hz its been running at 165hz for the entire lifetime and i don't have the change hertz tab either.

video helped straight away as he explains at minute 3:00 I was plugging the hdmi into the the hdmi plug that didnt support the maximum refresh rate that I could have on this monitor , so this monitor that i m currently using is got 2 hdmi and 1 display port , the first doesnt support more than 30hz the ,second hdmi does and it is what I just did inserting it into the second, its strange as its a samsung monitor running at 4k 60hz max, well thanks for the video mate
Lifesaver mate. You made me double check the hdmi input i was using with my samsung monitor and sure enough only the second hdmi supports 144hz. Cheers.

Thanks so much. I was using my other monitors hdmi cable thinking it would work with this new monitor but it didnt. Found the dp cord that goes with this and it changed from 100 hz to 165 hz displays.

Before comments pile up, I'd like to congratulate you on your videos, they helped me a lot! I'd like to see a video on how to delete the undeletable massive 13GB .sys file that occurs in the C drive when you put the pc in hibernation all the time. I tried Wise Force Deleter and it can't delete it. Also how to remove security protection from a USB flash drive. I made a mistake and bought one of those and it does not let me transfer certain random files I saved in there. My files. I can access hem but can't move them over to another USB or hard drive. Thanks again!

I myself prefer the cable with the correct Connectors on each end as it evades potential and additional Error source. The Adapter and its connections. Of course you have to make sure to buy the correct cable and also check the directionality of the cable.

I have a qn90b plugged in to an x17 r2 laptop. I am unable to LOWER my refresh rate. I noticed I only have 144hz option available. I'm 100% positive i've had multiple options before (60, 120, 144) and now I can only see the 144 option. How is this possible?
My solution was- Shut down, swap from displayport to hdmi, boot with hdmi, shutdown again and back to DP. Booting with HDMI fixed the bug...
For some reason switching from DP to HDMI unlocked the refresh rate options in advanced settings and still worked when I went back to Display Port, dunno why but it worked. I tried everything short of a full fresh windows install; I did reinstall windows but kept my files, unplug and replug the DP cable from the gpu and monitor, restart, delete and reinstall the factory display driver, install new display driver, messed with GPU settings and drivers etc... Nothing worked until I found a random redit post- similar problem same solution (he was stuck at 1hz tho!) I hope this saves someone hours of smashing their head against a wall

@3:53 did it for me. I spent like an hour dicking around with my device manager and Nvidia conroller and after all that I just had to go into the physical monitor controller and select 144hz
If the frame rates doesn't show, it might you're not updating your graphic card drive. I'm using GTX 1050, and not install NVIDIA driver update app before on my pc and the frame rate option for the monitor not showing, because the PC using windows basic display or whatever I forgot lol. And then someone told me to install the driver, check the update and then suddenly the frame rate option for the monitor is showing and I can choose whatever hz that my monitor and my graphic card can run.
Should i buy an usb c to display port adapter for my Laptop? Or should i just wait until imma build my own PC?
I bought a monitor to connect to my laptop, so essentially using my laptop as the second screen and my Lenovo y25 - 25 as my main screen.
I tried setting the refresh rate to 240Hz, but whenever I opened a game in fullscreen it would stutter (CSGO, LoL, Terraria) and some games would just stay black (Minecraft)
Setting the Hz back to 60Hz, they worked fine.
I did not experience any problems outside of fullscreen games.
I still don't know how to fix it, I hoped your video could help me but sadly not.
Does someone know what to do?

I just bought an RTX 3060 TI and had GTX 1070 as well and now I only have 60hz! ive been told to get an Displayport cable and went and got one and it still shows 60hz and even lower max resolution! have u fixed it ?
maybe it is a driver problem. Try search for drivers on your monitor's manufacturer website. There might be a crucial driver that you are missing.@@GAZPLE

I am having an issue that when using Display Port, as I have for years, I suddenly cannot use 144hz though it has worked just fine in the past. I switch to HDMI 2.0 everything works fine. But, again, Display Port will not do the 144hz.
Maybe the DP port is damaged or maybe the cable is damaged

ive got a dvi cable connected into my monitor which is plugged into my mother board and my hz are still stuck at 60 even though its 144hz

i just bought this monitor: AOC 2460PF, that can go at 144hz, i have the displayport cable that they give me with the monitor and an HDMI aswell, i don't know what type of HDMI so i just used it and it coulndt go further than 60hz. So i tryed the displayport one and not only it couldnt go more than 60hz but it didnt even had a good resolution. I installed the newest drivers aswell (i believe) so what could be the problem?

@@jersonescober9322 yes, i needed to use displayport tho. I simply tried to re-insert it again and turning on and of the monitor and the pc and it worked i dunno how tho, probably the cable was just insert badly lol. Hope it could help for you

@@bruhmoment8555 it’s a drivers problem and I have not fixed it because windows won’t accept the drivers windows thinks the drivers from 2007 is the most up to date ver.
Mine for some reason doesn't even show the refresh rate anymore it was working and then it stopped it shows desktop mode unknown amd active signal mode unknown
I have a motherboard asus prime b550m-a wifi and a CPU ryzen 5 5600g Graphics integrated vega 7. And a monitor asus vg248. This monitor don t support 144hz with hdmi cable but with DP and Dvi yes. But my problem is the motherboard have slots just for hdmi and dvi. Soo i use a dvi cable..but i can t set 144hz from settings, i am stuck with 60hz...why? The graphics vega 7 or mother board don t support 144hz? If i buy an adapter from dvi to dp or hdmi to dp can i resolve this?

My pc doesent have a DP port , it has only HDMi , vga and the other one similiar to vga. Im 100 percent sure that my monitor is 144hz and works as i have tried it in other pcs , my problem is that the pc doesent recognise the monitor and i have issues with INTEL display driver , i tried to install the latest driver but it just wont install . My question is : Can i use a HDMI to DP cable adapter and the dp cable to my monitor.Or it doesent support still ?

Random tip: make sure your cable is FULLY seated

Why do they have to make it so complicated with different ports cables for adapting your gear?? I don't game so am not that worried but it sort of smacks of getting more money out of consumers, after all, - a cable is a cable or not??
Im not trying to change to a higher im trying to go lower to install new firm ware but i cant change from 360hz to 60hz becausee the only available refresh rate is 360hz and i cant lower it
See my issue is if I set the hz to any higher then 50 the bottom half of my screen is blacked out it get worst the higher I go so not I just build a new pc so you would think I could use all the hz
i thinkits because of my drivers but if i install the newest drivers the screen would run at a very low res and would still only work with 60hz. my previous card (GTX 750 i) worked just fine with the same hdmi kable btw. and now i have a GTX 1050 ti and it wont work

Try another cable. Does it have a DP port? If so use that

i sadly only have an hdmi 1.3 so i have to choose between 144hz and 2k resolution
I just got a new acer 4k monitor last week, which can go up to 144hz and can only get 85hz using a display port cable that goes up to 8k. I suspect its the video card that is at fault is an old nvidia gtx780. I am getting a new pc very soon which has intel i9 and and Nvidia 3070 just been waiting for it to be built
Check in the manual which type of cable you would need to connect to get the 144HZ. It might be the GPU. But look it up first. Because my Monitor wants a DP cable to be 240HZ.

I have a 4K tv capable of 200 hz. I have three displays connected via alogic dsx3 with three dp 1.4 ports. Tv doesn’t have DisplayPort so I get a dp 1.4 to hdmi 2.1 and plugged it in andddd bam only 30 hz.

Literally none of this worked. I can run 1920x1440p at 144hz but when I switch it to 2560x1440p it locks at 60hz
Guys I used cru and deleted all my settings and can’t change it to anything anymore
windows 10 forgot my samsung sync 16:10 -It had windows drivers then with laer patches microsoft gave the monitor a shaft and now drivers since then -another reason not to use windows 10(or 11)

you probably use wrong cable hdmi/dp or your graphics card is old.Or try to swich 1080 and then maybe you will see 165hz ')
My 165 hz monitor still runs games on 20 fps
As well, be certain you're running nothing lower than win 10 or 11.

There is a massive difference between 60hz and 144hz
Cables have nothing to do with refresh rate. It's all dependent on the port.
