Smoke grenades allow you a smoke screen in seconds, these days those smoke discharges are automatic and tied to laser warning system or some other passive defense sensors. Engine smoke is something that can give you longer last screen to allow you retreat or obscure movement of the vehicles following the tank with ESS. I imagine by the nature of how ESS is working, that smoke will be quite hot, not sure it is hot enough to completely conceal the vehicle from hi-grade thermal, I imagine will very much depend on ambient conditions.

I spent some time in and around a T-72 here in the UK (the dark green and then tan coloured one at the War & Peace show years back). It will always be my favourite. It's just so stupidly violent, noisy, dirty, and my god the way the fan blasted a 30ft tall tornado of dust behind it. Say what you will, but they have so much personality and so much presence about them. Absolutely excellent. Well done on getting it fixed!
I've always liked the look of the T-72/80/90 series of tanks. Glad you got yours up and running! You guys are magicians when it comes to getting these old warhorses working again. I hope we get to see more of the T-72 in future videos. Well done fellas!

Ha, my mate had a race-prep Suzuki GT380 two-stroke triple which would drop in to smoke mode if you rode it too gently. You had to cane it for about 3 miles to clear its throat (and everyone elses).

T-72 defence mechanism is much like the defence mechanism of the crew when they see a Bear charging at them , basically it soils itself and disappears in a cloud of toxic fumes . Which is the same defence mechanism I would have if I saw a T-72 charging down on me . Great work the T-72 looks and sounds good , thank you for another great video .

i'm glad you mentioned the SMOKE mode, i remember someone telling me this years back, that diesel could be injected into the engine to produce a smoke screen to enable the 'run away mode' and was going to ask how you did this, but you answered it something i always wondered about Master Milos T69, if it was doing the same thing, it is smoky, but perhaps not as bad as this old beast great to see the old girl running, and pretty well, worth all the effort guys one thing i hate about working on military stuff, having to work on your knees and know where to kneel with jagged lumps of steel poking you in places that are not conducive to most peoples enjoyment
Gotta correct: it isn't intended as a "run away mode". In soviet union, smoke wasn't considered as a tank's personal defense method, but as a unit's tactical measure. For example, tanks and apcs crossing an open area, tanks are moving at the front and creating a smoke screen behind them covering weaker apcs. Smoke grenade launchers were also set up the way that smoke grenades would fly more than 100m forward before detonating, creating a smoked area in front of advancing troops. Of course these ww3 tactics don't work today, but the idea was as I described

Now thats some torque, it may be crude but you get power from the engine instantly and i have to say its runnin really smooth
