  • As we entered Georgia we were amazed by the never-ending line of heavy goods trucks waiting to enter Turkey. We understand that the drivers sometimes spend a week waiting before they are allowed to cross. First priority in a new country is always sim-cards and some cash (Starlink actually works in Georgia, but data is quite cheap here). We managed to do both in the first town we passed. Following we went on to our first destination. Vardzia is the location of a cave monastery that dates to the 12th century. It is the location of the Church of the Dormition dating to 1180 during the reign of Queen Tamar and has beautiful wall paintings. On entering the complex Paul slipped on some loose stones and twisted his knee. We will be looking for a brace in Tbilisi.
