I.... I knew this day would come. The day when at the end of Jesse's video I wouldn't hear those words we will never hear live from the source again. "We do occasionally talk about video games" I never got to meet him, I grew up watching his videos, and now I won't ever be able to say to him how much his mission meant to me. Total halibut, Total Biscuit, TB, John Bain. There will never be another RUclipsr like you. "I'm here to ask and answer one simple question." WTF is RUclips without him?
Nothing will ever replace TB's style, but I love Jesse and I've missed these kinds of videos. Make it your own, like the Mike episodes of MST3K after Joel left! Much love, Jesse.
More Game Reviews! Doesn't matter if it's Indie. Any game, just play and review it. Hopefully I'm not alone when I say I want to watch more content like this from you my dude.
First, the show should be named TL;DN - Too Lazy; Didn't Name. Second, I'm on my second save slot now, and beelining for the alchemy town upgrade will help alleviate the grindy feeling, as you can just farm whatever, and then transmute (at a loss) to things you need.
I also had the issue of "People kept trying to describe this to me and I kept staring blankly at them." it was only when someone flat out told me "It's a Devolver Digital game" that I was like "Ah, gotcha!" Also Jesse, I am LOVING this indie series. Keep it up!
In Asia, there’s a hobby called mini four wheel drives (4WD). You take a small battery powered car and put it on a linear type of race track. The track has curves and slopes so your success depends on how well you build your racer. Loop Hero kind of feels like this.
I'll join the chorus of praise this is getting. Love the concept of the show, something like this has been sorely missing in my subscriptions lately. Do keep going with it, you've got my eyeballs.
tbh Jesse, "Indie Game Show" is a great title for this series, you could theme like the game's main character or the game itself is on a game show, and you're the host, idk I'm not sure how much more that theme could be stretched, but I love 'Indie Game Show' as a title, its very double-pun.
I love that you bring up games that it reminds you of and show a bit of them as well. I think a lot of reviewers refrain from doing it too much even though the medium is based largely on borrowing ideas from others to create something new.
I have a few name suggestions, Jesse Cox learns another indie, indie game research What the indie game?, indie game talk time, indie game talk, or anonymous indie game of the week (or however often you do it)
You talk in such an engaging and personable way! I actually don't play any games myself, but it's just so nice to hear you nerd out about stuff like this. :)
I think I'd enjoy this series! I really can't keep track of indie games, I'm having trouble with big games already. Getting "short" reviews of such games would be really nice.
I'm excited to see this series continue. I've been sorely missing reviews in recent times, and it's always cool to hear about current indie games as someone who can't really watch/keep up with livestreams. Great job Jesse!
I enjoyed this short video, I totally agree with your criticism about it being grindy and frustrating. Most people will play it alone. I wish when we unlock the third loop they’ll give you 15 cards just to jump start the loops faster
Hey Jesse, this video got me thinking... I remember when I first started watching your channel back in 2011 when you were posting those hour long videos of SWTOR, and I think back on how much I enjoyed those types of videos from you and how this video kinda reminds me of those. The main thing that drew me in with those old videos was that they were informative. I felt like I really understood what I was looking at, and that was really great considering I had never even seen an MMO before... The point that I'm leading to is that I hope you keep doing videos like this, and that you grow and expand on your base idea for it. Your great teaching skills shine through with a video like this and it honestly keeps me more engaged than I ever could be in your playthrough videos. Oh, and uh... Jesse. Keep having fun.
It's an oddly compelling game, in a way. It's almost like a puzzle game, with how certain tiles can interact with each-other, and the battle system kinda reminds me of idle gaming. Which is not a knock against the combat, funnily enough, since I actually kind of like "idle battling" when it's done right. Also, I'm totally game for shorter digestible reviews like this. We need more bite-size signal-boosters like this. Also, if anyone's looking for some early-game hints before diving in, here are a few I've learned: * Placing Rocks and/or Mountains in an unbroken 3x3 square will transform them into a much larger Mountain that gives a significant boost to your max HP, along with giving you a lot of Noticeable Change tokens. It will also spawn a Harpy every couple of days, so watch out for them. Also, once 10 Rocks/Mountains are on the board, a Goblin Camp will spawn, spitting out one Goblin every day. * When placing a Meadow, make sure it's adjacent to certain tiles, as being adjacent to literally anything except for other Meadows turns that Meadow into a Blooming Meadow, which adds more to the HP you regain at the start of each day (relative to a bog-standard Meadow). * In Chapter 1, it is wise to obtain the Blissful Ignorance trait if you're on a run where you're gunning for the Lich. Depending on how many tiles you've placed directly adjacent to your campsite, you'll need many of those Oblivion cards to erase the Lich's Palace when it appears near the end of the run. For instance, if you've placed two roadside tiles adjacent to your campsite, that prevents two bits of the Palace from spawning in, leaving 6 bits that you'll need to erase with Oblivions. Like Jesse mentioned, each part of the Lich's Palace boosts the Lich's damage and health by 5%, so be sure to get rid of as much of the Palace as you can before you have to fight him. Also, Evasion is apparently a better stat to have than Defense during the Lich fight, since he hits hard but there's a longish time between his attacks.
I really hope you keep doing these, I enjoyed this one quite a bit and ever since TB passed I just find that the world of indie games has just passed me by. He was such a great resource for discovering those indie gems and I feel like you could easily be the same.
WTF is... Jesse going to name this series, I'm super stoked to see you take on reviewing small indie games, I hope it'll be a great series, with a catchy name that also caries your unique brand of humor :)
Knowing when you back with loot vs fight the boss is something early players need to figure out. It took me a while to figure out what classes work best with what tiles, gear stats, and bosses. Overall I had a fun time playing this game and I'll keep it under games to play when I want to chill.
Indie-ana Jesse, and the Temple of Reviews. Star Cox: A New Indie Indie Review on the Jesse Cox Express. Sherlock Cox: The Indie Review of Baskerville. There, I already crossed 4 names off your potential show names list.
I like this video format; it gives a nice overview of the game, we get that great Jesse charm and wit, and it leaves enough open to want to go play the game myself!
So excited to see you back into indi games! I discovered so many games I love through you so I am looking forward to you making me spends more money lol
I think the game's biggest sin is hiding the lore behind a mid-late game upgrade and then it being all walls of text, it's really good, but I can see people entirely ignoring it (even I can only do few entries at the time).
This was a really nice review. Pretty chill, straight to the point, and while complaining about the grindy parts might seem like nitpicking to you, it might be the thing that makes or breakes this one for some people
Grinding is not necessarily a part of this game. You can just... play runs like you would play runs of any roguelite and will eventually end up with the resources to spend on the inbetween-runs part of the game. You CAN of course, if you want, make a specific deck to grind some specific resource to get to some specific inbetween-run upgrade faster, but you don't HAVE to do that if you don't enjoy it. That being said, I am happy that you enjoyed this game (it was crazy how it exploded on the internet a week after I discovered it) and that you made a new show (with such an amazing name, too!).
Absolutely love this Jesse! Personally I feel talking a bit slower might make it easier for me to process everything, though. My brain needs some time =) But I will keep watching this series for sure
Great review! If ever, you're gonna do more, it might help people with lower-end pcs if you can review the settings and the specs needed. Indie games have always been a staple for broke bois like me and this is the kinda thing that can help me discern which one to get first.
Ya, I felt it was a bit grindy too but the grind didnt feel THAT bad. Just try different classes or tile combinations to make each loot run feel fresh. But I do wish it was designed so that you could more feasible clear it all without upgrading your camp.
I'm seriously on the fence with this one. I've enjoyed watching Crendor play it, but I also see that it's a rogue-like card building game with a grind and that's like the top of my 'I don't like playing these' list; the only rogue-like I enjoy is _Hades_ , and this ain't that.
Really liking this format, Jesse! Hadn’t heard about this game yet and it definitely seems like good one for streaming xD the grind though, it hurts just thinking on it atm. Keep it up good sir!
So this is what that tweet was about? Yeah, maybe it doesn't have to have a name, and I'm totally into the idea of just these little tidbit tiny indie reviews. Seems like a cool idea.
With rogue-whatever games play daily is probably my biggest recommendation. Not 10 hours then a week later another 6, 1 or two runs a day. That way the grind isn't too grindy and you don't burn out and forget everything. Not just loop hero; gungeon, slay the spire. Like studying but better
Love the review Jesse Though seeing how crendor did a under x minutes review of this game (for the first time in 6 years or so) I am feeling slightly eery. AND LIKING IT.
Crendor 2 min review series Vs. Jesse Cox Indie Review. The Battle begins
I bet crendor wins
The least amount of effort wins :D
or or Cox n Crendor reviews
Now we just need a reaction to the reviews.
We have to start doing the EXACT same games.
This is a void tb left that needs to be filled. Fill my void Jesse!
I have that same issue, still havn't found a proper replacement.
FILL IT!
I had the same though! Go Jesse! John Bain would be proud!
I like Northernlion Tries, unfortunately it's far too inconsistent
I agree!
I have missed this. Jesse being Omfgcata and telling us about a game that his friends are playing.
I.... I knew this day would come. The day when at the end of Jesse's video I wouldn't hear those words we will never hear live from the source again. "We do occasionally talk about video games"

This was my thoughts watching this, too.
TB would be proud!
He didn't spend 20 minutes on settings tho
@@Grithor True but gotta have that Jesse flair somewhere in there.
This comment almost made me cry because you know he really would be

whos TB
"it's like a Job" is one of loop hero's achievements
I like this review style, short and to the point. Hope it works out as a series.
Jesse doing Reviews? hell yeah, sign me up.
More Game Reviews! Doesn't matter if it's Indie. Any game, just play and review it. Hopefully I'm not alone when I say I want to watch more content like this from you my dude.
Cox Box! It's just a mixed bag, don't overthink it, just make it simple and easy to rhyme! Don't think about it, just do it, regret it later!
Total Biscuit would've been proud of this review Jesse
He would have asked "where is bloody 20min review of the options menu?". Damn I miss TB.
This is good quality content Jesse. Would love to see you review a broad range of genres and styles of games.
I like this casual sort of look at indie games.
And so the end of the co-op ed has come. I'll miss that banger of an outro
First, the show should be named TL;DN - Too Lazy; Didn't Name.

MORE Jesse reviews / first impressions! You cann call it Coxtease, Jörgenflörgen or something else, I don't mind, I'll watch them all anyway.
I also had the issue of "People kept trying to describe this to me and I kept staring blankly at them." it was only when someone flat out told me "It's a Devolver Digital game" that I was like "Ah, gotcha!"

I think I'd enjoy this series! I really can't keep track of indie games, I'm having trouble with big games already. Getting "short" reviews of such games would be really nice.

I love this format. It has everything I need to know if I want to buy the game
been loving your work since the cata days.

Oooh. Jesse reviewing? Yes pls. I can listen to this man talk for hours. In fact, I do.
I've found that Loop Hero is good to have on in the background, and you go back to it during quiet moments in other games like HotS

for some reason the tone of your voice at the beginning reminded me of your old omfg dot fm intro from back in the day
The grind in this game is perfect. I never felt like I was doing chores.
This seems like a great new series, plus it fills a void that's not been filled in a while. At least for me.
My bud was playing Loop Hero almost non-stop for a while and I could see some appeal but put it off, I'll be checking this game out.
Thanks Jesse!
Looking forward to the next in the series!
WTF is... Jesse going to name this series, I'm super stoked to see you take on reviewing small indie games, I hope it'll be a great series, with a catchy name that also caries your unique brand of humor :)

The name is not that bad Jesse, it's like "running on empty... food review". Could be introduced like it too.
Filling the void left without, "WTF is..." Although, it's not the same without the long rants about PC settings.
