You should stuff it with newspaper before you close off the top of the egg so that it doesn't warp while adding the texture

I saw that The Big Ceramic Store is closed until further notice due to Covid :_( So, I bought my scaling tool off of eBay (morezmore). Decent price. Can't wait to use it to make my eggs!

You do not need a hole in your enclosed forms at all. Slow bisque firing is all you have to do.
if you have a lot of time (but most of us are inpatient as hell)
Sean Peirson and some are not in control of the firing process for the kilns used (schools, community studios)

He said"you have to put a hole because it will explode." This is false and perpetuates a common ceramic myth. I fire enclosed forms often and never had one explode.
