"You exist because we allow it, and you will end because we demand it."
I come make a religion out of this
My mom in a nutshell
@@themostbritishpersonalive868 You don't want to end in Geth court from breaking copyright
lol, if they're so cool, why communicate at all?
too bad they weren't that formidable in reality, one got wrecked by an overgrown sand worm, and another was taken down by a nuclear bazooka, and in the end were just your average glitched robots, science fiction accustomed us to far more terrifyng threats.
Ah yes, "reapers"
We have dismissed that claim.
Yup and it bit them in the ass
Turian Bastard
"Reaper, a name given by the Protheans to give voice to their downfall, in the end we are"
-Sovereign
Red Lantern's Rage *in the end, what they choose to call us is irrelevant, we simply are.
I'm pretty sure harbinger was like "ah yes "Shepard""
That first talk with Sovereign in ME1 is one of my all time favorite gaming moments. It STILL gives me chills every time. That damn voice! My favorite part, "You exist because we allow it, and you will end, because we demand it." FUCK
He tickles my brain like the Gravemind does in Halo, cool, badass, mysterious, chilling voice and speaks like a god
You know, probably the dumbest thing ever, but I really liked how the Collectors were just Prothean Husks.
It just seems cool that you aren't fighting some new alien, you're fighting an alien that you've been hearing about since the first mission, that's under the same effects as one of the first enemies you encounter.
I dunno, I just thought that was neat.
Rudimentary husks, mostly all DNA manipulated like human husks were.
I liked it too. It was actually a pretty cool plot twist. And it made sense. The Protheans that had been indoctrinated had been modified through cloning, cybernetics, and genetic engineering to become truly unthinking puppets that would be used by the Reapers to monitor the Galaxy following the Protheans fall. My only issue with the Collectors is that Sovereign didn't use them to assist in invading the Citadel in ME1.
@@MoostachedSaiyanPrince yeah it would have been much easier for the reapers if Sovereign had signaled the prothean husks to aid in recovering the citadel immediately so they could open the hole to allow the reaper fleet to invade at once.
That's the problem with writing a trilogy one step at a time without having a guideline map to show you what is next. Look at andromeda. They had no such guideline, and even less imagination. Such a failure of a game. Andromeda, that is.
Moostached Saiyan Prince I always assumed sovereign was unable to use them since they seem to be under direct control of harbinger since he had the most experience when dealing with living creatures
@@MoostachedSaiyanPrince sovereign wasn't supposed to need them, if anything the geth and saren were supposed to be all that was needed. The collectors were there to obtain data and preserve important aspects of organics...and you could tell in mass effect 2 that the collectors were a holy shit card pulled out of harbingers ass.
The final battle cutscenes where every ship on shepherds side is one of the greatest scenes today.
At the same time, Dante Escalante, this is very worst cut scenes in video game history. Sure you can get 100% resources and whatnot, but literally none of them show up during that final Earth invasion cut scene nor during the final Earth invasion missions. It's all busy work that ultimately gives you literally no pay off... unless if you count that less than five second cut scene of Shepard catching his/her breath.
Then there's that "Choose Your Doom!" ending that completely destroys everything that was and still is the Mass Effect games. Sure the games are super epic sci-fi adventure and that's what I loved them for, but that love ended unfortunately for me when EA destroyed Bioware from the inside out by forcing Bioware to ship out half completed game for both the el oh els as EA's management knew precisely what they were doing -- destroying one of the greatest RPG developers on Earth at the same time not only dashing every Mass Effect fan's hopes but crushing all of our hopes all in one fell swoop. You can clearly see where the "end" of Mass Effect 3 happens - the Asari homeworld , and where the writer(s) of the third game haphazardly pumped out a narrative straight from a Spanish soap opera. ME3 was effin' fantastic up to the end of the Asari homeworld mission.
When the developers for ME3 came out and denied the Indoctrination Theory for your Shepard character that's also when the Mass Effect trilogy really started to crumble from within as a space opera. As far as I'm concerned when they denied the Indoctrination Theory they made Shepard into a literal god or goddess depending on your Shepard's gender. Literally everyone else who came into extended contact with ANY Reaper tech always became indoctrinated yet presumably the longest lasting human ever to come into Reaper tech, but not once but many times and for extended times for many of those times is somehow proven to be completely immune to Reaper Indoctrination. That begs the question, "Why wasn't Shepard murdered again in ME2 or 3 when it became crystal clear Shepard is the Key to unraveling the Reapers?". Don't give me that "Shepard is our greatest hope!" nonsense because Shepard was dead for roughly a year (in-game time) in the inception of ME2, and people simply moved on.
All in all, Dante Escalante, that cut scene you mention, is so epic that many Mass Effect players are still fawning over it instead of coming to terms with the fact EA destroyed Bioware's reputation and ability to develop a cohesive RPG and to conclude it with a sensible ending. EA was so overwhelmingly successful in destroying Bioware's ability to create a good or better RPG that they vomited out Mass Effect: Andromeda. Those of us who have been paying attention all know what an absolutely dejecting joke that game was. Sure most of the problems have been patched out before Bioware abandoned the game, but with the right writers Andromeda wouldn't of been the garbage it turned out to be, but a new Commander Shepard level epic possibly with a new guy or gal leading the charge.
EA destroys everything they touch unfortunately
Yep sad
@@adamgray1753 Thankfully ea is slowly dying now. And seeing as how they did ME, im gonna enjoy watching EA finally die slowly as they beg to their former fans to buy their garbage.
Adam Gray Well on the bright side, Bioware confirmed that that 5 second clip of Shepard gasping means that he actually lived, so you know what, all that extra work was worth it to me if that’s what it amounts to.
*Starts talking about Sovereign class reapers*
*Shows picture of a destroyer class*
pimhopstaken honestly your names aren’t that different
Yes, the reapers...
Saving the universe from the destruction of all advanced intelligent life by sentient AI machines by destroying all advanced sentient life with sentient AI machines.
Enigma inside a conundrum
It made sense if you follow strict logic. So long as there is a non zero risk of conflict, their plan made sense. They would have to find a way to ensure a zero probability of conflict to change their plan.
The combined biomass, intelligence and knowledge of the destroyed civilizations were stored in the reapers, so in their mind this achieved the goal of preserving that 'life'.
It just makes perfect sense. We have to preserve all life from its own annihilation. Hit the reset button for everything, then clone their species into a synthetic husk
"Hey all - feel free to go ahead and develop! Also here is some super advanced technology to help you. But like don't get too advanced or we might have to exterminate you all haha lol"
Reaper Logic: "We've got to protect life in the galaxy so that means we have to routinely destroy all life in the galaxy!"
Life lives forever in a form of a Reaper.
They were created to preserve life, not to keep it in the state it was then... That's the problem with computers, they do exactly what you order them to do.
+Uilliam Reapers were told to "Preserve" life, not "keep it from dying". The difrence is huge. Preserving might mean simply storing all of this unit's data, while it might be dead.
Crazy
@Stripey Arse There are people like this.
“Ah, yes, 'Reapers'. The immortal race of sentient starships allegedly waiting in dark space. We have dismissed this claim.”
Where is this line from?
@@MICROKNIGHT3000 star wars
I hate that line so much that I always jet the council die.
I always wondered about this. The citadel is reaper tech, could it not have subtle influence or indoctrination abilities to make people dismiss claims of the reapers?
@@VeteranGaming_GamingUnited oh boy, you could have started a new spiral of theories and lore... which sadly hasnt happened
I like how galactic civilization just lived at the citadel and found the keepers there and couldn’t interact with them at all without them exploding. And nobody ever found them suspicious
This is what is traditionally called a 'red flag', something aliens in the galaxy can't seem to perceive. Humanity, f*ck yeah!
Beware of Giant, Robotic Squid Aliens from space you don't know what they'll do
But though, their reason on killing organic beings do make sense
Troll Man beware of them? they should be more beware of EA.
Troll Man yeah like talk to you about their Lord an savior... Space Cathulu.
They're giant robotic toebiters dude.
Theyll zap u ded
Love mass effect and this helps me get more immersed in the trilogy.
Dustin Caisse try the books and comics for the games to a lot more backstory for places, events and characters etc.. Like you get more about Jacob, Anderson even saren
Honestly, I liked the image of the Reapers that Harbinger put forth prior to their explanation in the 3rd entry. That it, something impossibly old and powerful beyond human comprehension like a mechanical realization of HP Lovecrafts Old Ones. Was super creepy how unconcerned Harbinger was with explaining their' nature to Shepherd in his first appearance, like he was giving an unnecessary lesson to a doomed ant for what would only be his own amusement, had it existed.
Doesn’t Sovereign do a better a job at that?
We must never forget
Marauder Shields
when she whips out the strap-on He tried to warn us
when she whips out the strap-on R.I.P. Marauder Shields. He tried to save us from a terrible ending.
R.I.P
Rest in pieces
He lived known as Marauder Shields
he died as Marauder Health
WHY DOES EVERYONE ALWAYS FORGET THE SACRIFICE OF THE THREE HUSKETEERS BEFORE MARAUDER SHIELDS???!!!!
Can't get enough of Mass Effect, beat 1-3 more times than I can remember and am currently on my second playthrough of Andromeda.
Andromeda was so bad honestly. But I heard bioware is working on a completely different mass effect game so that's cool
@@aaronrodriguez1410 not just a different mass effect game but MASS EFFECT 4 continuing the Milky Way that everyone wanted from the getco
@@thatjrpganimefanplayerjusi8003 yeah haha. And that new trailer alludes to the fact that shepard is alive. So yeah I am beyond excited
basically the Reapers killed all organics before they could possibly annihilate the entire universe with their self destructive nature, I love how the plot shows that even evil people can change and that possibility is what entitles us to try and aim for a better future
Smoke Weed
The Reapers are good. Though their methods are questionable, their motives are for the greater good. It just took biological creatures some time to realize that unity is what they need and the Catalyst recognized this and gave Shepard the option to decide the fate of the galaxy because he is the key to the change.
Dickmelson Lupot Reapers are not good they are evil. by your own logic Nazis and Communists would be also good after all they wanted make world better place...
What comes to Shepard He/she was indoctrinated and dont tell that he wasnt because he/she has been in contact with Reaper artifacts dozens upon dozens time. and Catalyst tries/push Shepard to either control reapers or synthesis.
Destroying Reapers is only good solution. In my game I made peace with Geth and Quarians ( I bet the most of Mass Effect playerbase did same) that proves that Reaper's claims are false and AIs and organic beings can coexist.
Normaali Ihminen
And do you America is "good" too?? With it's "rich" history. Just ask the guy on the 20 $ bill, Syria, Egypt and Iraq *cough* thanks to Killary *cough*
Everyone has blood in their hands no one is ever "good". Being "good" is a matter of perspective. And as far as the lore goes, biological creatures in the past weren't exactly "good" themselves. Hell, the Protheans even practiced slavery and genocide themselves and when the Reapers came they had no chance because they were not united and one of the things that defines us played a part in their downfall which is PRIDE. They were too proud of their little achievements that when faced with the reality of being attacked by something more powerful than them, they failed miserably.
Why do you think the Leviathans made the Catalyst in the first place? Because the "lower life forms" in their time were being continuosly wiped out by their own creations. Eventhough it was inevitably the downfall of the Leviathans themselves, they never forgot their purpose and that was to "protect life" and "elimate chaos".
Normaali Ihminen
You are basing your decision through EMOTION. Don't forget that the Reapers are machines, they don't have emotions but rather they have objectives and will take the most effective solution. And that solution was to prevent life forms from "advancing too much" that they'll get to the point where they would wipe themselves out.
Such was the case at the time they were created and were still proven correct time and time again up until the main ME universe timeline when Shepard managed to unite the galaxy including synthetic allies (the Geth). It was because of this coupled with Shepard and his allies' tenacity and stubborness to not give up that made the Catalyst realized that in that cycle their methods isn't the solution anymore that's why the Catalyst gave Shepard the opportunity to decide the fate of the galaxy.
And by the way I chose Blue and/or Green. The Reapers had the potential to aid the galaxy, it's a waste to just destroy them.
Normaali Ihminen
In the lore, of all the cycles that they did it was only in the ME timeline's cycle that both synthetics and organics banded together. That was a first in the ME's Lore.
Cut on RUclips to check a few channels out but this one never disappoints
So good to hear bro :)
Isaiah Streeter I agree with you 100%.
Mass Effect had an awesome back-story. I was awestruck throughout at the sheer scale and complexity of it.
I'm not kidding when I say that I've played and replayed the whole Trilogy over and over.
These games are timeless classics.
Necrons - Warhammer 40k just an idea :P
Sure will add it to the list buddy, thanks :)
That is the only trilogy of games that I play and replay every single game at least a dozen times each, unwanted to see and play every single possible scenario, gosh I loved it.
I camnot outplay every scenario ever as I have too much love for certain characters haha
Was waiting for this!!!!!! made my day
Yo I'm so glad you finally did Mass Effect
I have played a lot of games in my day, but none of them blew my mind quite like the mass effect games. I remember when you meet with the Prothean A.I. towards the end of Mass Effect 1, and just how speechless I was when you learn about the reapers and the Prothean empire that existed before. So good man. Great games
Gods, just imagine if we got a proper Mass Effect movie with the graphics that the cinematic shown at the end by the writers of Mass Effect. Glorious.
Mass Effect is my favourite trilogy ever , right next to Lord of The Rings
oh shit lol is your profile pic from pewds playing Facade? I have the same screenshot.
Well when lord of the rings comes out with an awesome game trilogy we'll talk.
@@Not-an-Alien I think he means story and what not.
I love your RUclips channel anytime you up load it makes my day
"We impose order on the chaos of organic evolution. You exist because we allow it.... and you will end because we demand it!"
~ Sovereign to Shepard and his Squadmates regarding his objective.
Do the mimics from Edge of Tomorrow
yep. its on the list :)
I believe the manga All You Need Is Kill came before the movie
No one asked
Yomu, yeah it did. And the Manga was so badass. Tbh the movie was terrible.
@@KHRification They did.
Love your vids man the intros especially; how you show some footage/gameplay, date and title. Keep up the good work.
An epic gaming trilogy.
I fire up the old 360 and play it through sometimes.
Class just ended and then you upload another charm, I swear you time these uploads perfectly.
Good video bud, keep it up.
Thanks mate!
Absolutely LOVE this trilogy. Thanks for another great video!
I love that you made this!!
Man, I gotta get back into gaming! This was pretty cool. Good stuff, thanks Niyat!
Man, hearing Sovereign's voice again really brings me back. The Reapers were so freaking badass
Amazing video filmcomic,I was tried to tell you about explading of the reapers, indoctrination effects, the mass relay, etc I thought you didn't respond it my message about months ago,but it's ok,all it's forgiven, but thank you for showing this. You pal,you are the best😎👍
I wish he'd talk more about the reaper tech that transformed living beings into machines but I'm super thankful for being one of the people who suggested this and got it
Wish I could drop multiple likes on this and if I hadn't already subscribed I would have after this one. Man do I hope they get their heads out of their behinds a make a current gen trilogy edition of the series... one can dream right?
n o i c e i was hoping you will make this one!
I love just how massive and alien and godlike the reapers are, they truly are the perfect villain
I screamed you are covering my favorite game franchise ever!
They're big
They're bad
But most of all!
They make Shepard sad 😭
Thanks for explaining everything!
The reapers. Interesting 🤔
more like rapers xD
@@prime0502 they simply, are.
The design is based on the uhlek from starflight.
I never thought the day would come of you doing a video on the Reapers from Mass Effect trilogy.
Its here. Relish in its glory :)
Definitely.😎
Dang! I really love this channel 💕
Mass effect is by far my favorite series ever. Its so damn amazing
thanks for the vid keep it up bro you made my day again
Anytime!
Reaper Leviathans... OH, NOW I GET IT!!!
The reapers are probably my favourite enemy faction in all of gaming and also nice of you to include the mass effect 3 trailer in the end
I asked my grandpa with bad hearing to get me Minecraft on Xbox a few years back and he gave me this. I play this game a lot now and I find it really wholesome... Love you pops
"What's up guys niad here with film comics explained" ,your intro never gets old I love it.
Great video man!
Thanks Smitty!
You should do the Rakghoul disease from Star Wars KOTOR
Wait that was in KOTOR? I just knew it from the comics. Kickass, I need to play that game
Questions...would their skin survive the following:
1)antimatter beams?
2)black holes?
3)canceling subatomic forces? (strong/weak nuclear force, electromagnetism)
As playing ME3, I can say that it depend on each Reaper energy shield. That shield is very strong, can defect mostly anything that throw to them, but it still have its limit. When the shield is downed, normal weapon are worked on them, that how the Aliance defeat Sovereign in ME1. Rather than that, the Reaper are smart enough to avoid those situation (first thing they do when reach Earth is to netraulize every nuclear silo they can find)
And we will remember Shepard..
Because of him I am alive and I am not alone
This is one of my favorite game that I never skip the cutscenes and dialogs. I played all three games nonstop 4 times already lol.
Your videos are topical and well summarised. I could listen to you explain things all day.
If it's not too much work, may you do an issue of the Dark Matter comic?
You've barely scratched the surface of the Reapers let alone the series, I'd love to see more on Mass Effect.
Great videos brother
Thanks homie!
He finally made a video on this I’m so happy
OH MY PROTHEAN!
I have awaited this for a loooooooooooong time!
I just thought of a terrifying mix, Borg assimilated Reapers. resistance really would be futile.
The Borg would find thr Reapers unworthy of assimilation.
Seven of Nine: "Species 2012 -- Reaper. Their prime directive to exterminate advanced races brought them into direct conflict with the Borg. They no longer exist."
That scene made me jump out of my chair and square up with exitment
The Leviathans be like “hey dawg we heard you didn’t want to be killed by synthetics so we created some synthetics to kill you every 50,000 years so you won’t be killed by synthetics”
Hey, love your vids 😁 Could you do some more the Thing comics explained please, I really like your narration of the story.
Great video as always man! Could I request a future video on the Ancients from Stargate lore?
Somehow I became addicted to this channel.
First part of this vid... Man, I am still getting goose bumps and thinking of the first time I saw this with all the alliances I made.
After replaying the trilogy, I forgot how awesome ME1 was. Although clunky, it had a fantastic art style, felt cinematic and alien. It was dark and had a mysterious vibe to it, especially with the Soveriegn and Prothean AI encounters. The lore was captivating. ME 2 & 3, although fun and awesome in their own right...kinda just felt like an action adventure mashup of Star Wars / Avengers. Am I buggin?
mass effect trilogy is my FAVOURITE game trilogy! thanks for this video!
Dude, you are diverse! NICE!
Already eye peaking at:
The Sandworms (Dune explored)
next. xD
Good to know the background on the Robot-Insect-Aliens (not to be confused with ladybugs) that shoot at the ground
"I'm Commander Shepherd and this is my favorite RUclips channel on the Citadel"
RIP Mass Effect and Bioware. Thanks for all the memories.
I think the Gears of War Locust race or even the planet sera its located on and all the conflicts that happen on it would be awesome! keep up the awesome work!
On everything I love I will cry if you bring up all my knowledge on the reapers
Well, Reapers are probably the only antagonists who genuinely terrified me. With any other “big bad” you kinda know deep inside that a hero will win. But with Reapers... damn, I remember watching the final Mass Effect 2 cutscene and was thinking: thats it, we are all dead. And it was scary.
I see that they took a lot of inspiration from Babylon 5...and I’m a big fan of both.
Nice video as always mate!
Thank you so much for this newest video. I had suggested this particular topic a month ago but I am glad you acted upon it. I always thought the Reapers and the Collecters were excellent topics to cover in the Mass Effect series.
Also another alien race that would make for an interesting video would be the Visitors from the TV series V.
TheWaffleman54 Yeah that would be a good one.
I remember when Sovereign was revealed to be sentient... well that was a twist
Never played mass effects but still love the reaper's design and story ! Also, you should do a video about the chimerian virus and the chimera species from the Resistance series ! :)
Legendary editions coming out in 3 days.... I needed this hype video.
You should do some videos about the Gears of War universe
yep! its on the list :)
FilmComicsExplained Awesome! Keep up the great work. I love your videos.
hell yea
There really isnt much story to it. There are still unanswered questions from the first 3 games. I'm pretty sure that even the game developers dont know much about the story.
Tyler Alex thats what the comics are for
Loved those games so much! The 3rd was the best by far
Please do a series of mass effect lore that would just be amazing
4:30 always gives me chills.
Love the content
I finally understand why ME3 ended that way ... thanks for the explanation, bro. You deserve more than 144k followers :)
I just bought the legendary edition and am currently playing my first playthrough of mass effect 1! I'm so hooked rn
You should change the name of the channel to Film Comics Games Explained.. Wonderful video as always friend! Keep it up!
I just finished my fourth ME Trilogy playthrough and then this shows up in my inbox.
"Rudimentary creatures of blood and flesh. You touch my mind, fumbling in ignorance, incapable of understanding"
"You exist becouse we allow it, you will perish becouse we demand it."
Still my fav after so many years
Hi there! I was wondering if you could do a video about the Zerg or maybe even the Protoss from the Starcraft series
P.S. I love your videos
So basically space terminators that are bigger than your average skyscraper
One of those rare games that makes you wish you could go back for that "first time playing it" experience.
I better enjoyed the original story line that melded the idea (along with parts of what is explained here) of the consequences of the mass effect. Black matter and black energy that could only be manipulated by organics. But to its effects, it was consuming parts of the galaxy (part one there is a mention of the sun that was being consumed or depleted too quickly, you visit in part two). Part of the reason for harvesting was simple self preservation or desire by the machines to control this power. The catalyst new that it could not control this phenomena. That it needed to some how fuse it self to organic life in order to survive or further thrive. Notice that only organics can use this power. Also note that those story elements pertaining to dark energy where not even touched in part 3. Why it chose the humans and why it wanted so badly to convert Commander Shepherd. It may have finally found a way with humans, why the reaper that was destroyed in part was human in appearance, no other species ever converted or shaped a reapers structure like so. The galaxy was its test lab. Humans being offered the answer and it pursued us and all sentient organics that came in contact with us to make its perfect reaper.
I have NO IDEA what you wrote lol wow...
as always badass, hope some day you do a video on the ARK: survival evolved story!
