Thanks to your brilliantly clear video I've just successfully tied my first parachute hackle, cheers Barry! I recently also got your Fly Tying Techniques book which has been hugely useful and inspiring and I'd recommend to anyone interested in fly tying 👍
So if you were doing a whole fly - ie. tail, dubbing, etc....do you do all that first and do the parachute last or do this parachute first, tie off and then work on the rest of the fly?
You make it look so easy. When I try to wrap the thread around the post it always bends the post over and the thread becomes loose! That was a great tutorial! Thanks. Tight lines🦗🪰!!!!!
Nice again Barry!! which side of the hackle is up when you tie parachute? shiny one or matte one? is there a rule or any tip according to the type of fly? Thank you
Hi Barry! Do you dress the hackle/post before the body or after? I prefer to dress the abdomen and thorax, then flip the fly. There is plenty of hook shank/bend left to clamp onto without damaging the abdomen. Thoughts?
Del Mazza, who is perhaps the best dry fly tyer ever, completed the hackle after having dubbed the body and thorax. He would wrap the hackle up the post, whip finishing unencumbered from any obstacles. His hackle wraps were always immaculate and never trimmed half the barbules off, giving him a dense hackle finish.
Hi Maz, the idea is that when strip one side of the hackle you get a perfect hackle that stands 90 degrees from the hook shank and NO hackle points that go off in different angles.
Your videos are second to none. The explanation of the method is brilliant. Thank you
Glad you think so!
Just received your book (Fly Tying Techniques) and I am impressed with the quality of the photos, text and related videos.
Thank you I hope that you enjoy it!
Brilliant! Even my fumble fingers can do this.
Good for you!
Thanks. You make it look easy, cause it is. Was always nervous about the parachute. Not anymore. Keep it up!
Thanks. Glad it helped Harry.
You make it look so easy. I have always struggled with these.
Thanks Alfons, good luck with it.
Fantastic. Thanks for sharing this easy and neat technique!
You are so welcome!

Thank you, glad it helped and so pleased that it has broken the boundaries of your channel name!
What is the name of your book? I’d like to get it too!!!
@@robertperman8967 Hi Robert, it's "The Featherbender's Flytying Techniques" 🍻
Best demonstration I've seen.
Thank you.
Thanks Barry, that is awesome 🇺🇸
You are very welcome Dre.

Hi John, there are several ways of doing a parachute hackle but this is probably the most common. ruclips.net/video/GYA-dR3aM_o/видео.html
Very nice technique - Perfection itself!
Thanks Fancy.
Wonderful demonstration. Thank You!!
Thank you, OMT.
Thanks so much for this excellent video!
Thank you, pleased you enjoyed it.
Bravo! Excellent lesson. I’ve been doing this all wrong.😀
Glad it was helpful Andy!
Excellent. I'm tying some blue quills in size 20 right now. I will employ your technique. Thank you Barry.
Terrific video. Love your fly tying set up video with Petitjean Master Vise. Thanks so much for posting!
Thanks Neil.

Thanks, then you need to correct your thread when wrapping the post, I show this in many of my videos.
Love your work..
Thank you Glenn.
nice never thought of doing it like that
Thanks
merci pour votre présentation c'est parfait pour apprendre
Merci Jean Louis.
Thanks Barry, a really great tutorial as usual. Could I tie the parachute first and then the rest of the fl;y?
Thanks Roland, no the hackle will get in the way of everything else that you have to do.
thanks for the tips. I wasn't stripping the hackle on one side and they have not been as clean as I want. I'm trying this tip to strip half
Thanks Red, this technique works best on parachute patterns, good luck with it.
Very good.
Many many thanks
On a parachute Adam's, do you recommend tying a brown and grizzlie,, or just a single feather (grizzlie)?
Brown & Grizzle or a Cree also known as an instant Adams.
Barry you tye lovely fly s . Thank very much
Thanks Maz
Nice again Barry!!
which side of the hackle is up when you tie parachute? shiny one or matte one?
is there a rule or any tip according to the type of fly?
Thank you
Hi David, you can do it both ways. If the shiny side is up you get a traditional presentation, if it's down the fly rides lower in the water.

What hook is that I’m used to tying these with a dry fly hook. This looks almost like a caddis hook.
Hi Isaac, It's a Mustad C49S Curved caddis hook that is also a very useful emerger/dry fly hook.
Thanks a lot!
You're welcome Mende!
is that Antron yarn you used for parachute? Can Antron be used?
Hi OMT, yes it is and yes it can. There are an abundance of materials that can be used for the post both synthetic and natural.
No im saying to put a drop of superglue/ca glue on the post just before you wrap the hackle to hold the hackle. Makes long lasting fly
What is the brand of thread you are using? I'm using weevuus and it's to slippery. Thanx for a great video
Dyneema, you can find my video about using it here: ruclips.net/video/FkO2Z4MwBAk/видео.html
perfect fly tankiou Barry
Merci Guy.
Barry what's the idea of striping one side of the hackle is that no useing twice as much

👍🏼
Your welcome!
C a glue on the post before you wrap hackle
A drop of varnish on the post just to stiffen it up, it helps if you are not using a Gallows tool for the parachute hackle.
XOXO
Thanks!
