During the dying days of the Third Reich these two men, in very different ways helped bring about the fall of Hitler's regime. In Germany, Bonhoeffer spoke boldly against the evil of Nazism and called the church to turn away from its complacency. In England, Delmer, ran a secret operation, transmitting "black propaganda" into Germany in order to demoralize the Nazis. The stories of these heroic men and their companions intertwine as they work to end the war. Filmed in Berlin, Buchenwald, Flossenburg and various locations in England and the United States.

I, having been born in London, UK, in 1944,
during WW II, from a Catholic raised Father,
Germany, 1911, and a Jewish raised Mother,
Switzerland, 1910, whose family came from Poland to Switzerland in 1905, and they both
went to London in 1939, just before the war,
found this movie to be quite moving, with us living then only a step away from being in the middle of the war.

@ALLQUEEN51 Well my parents and Uncle lived in London from 1939 to 1949, but my Father and Uncle still being German there were sent to work in Canada from 1940 to 1943, before returning to the UK. My Mother being Swiss was not.
A truly moving story of those that gave us our freedom through their commitment and sacrifice.

Oh yes he was. I read a book about him and I could not put it down. Finished in two days. What a movie about him and liked. He was a great man of God. and what he did trying to help others before executed

Bonhoeffer needs no easy labels such as Christian or martyr. HE was simply a good human being. He was as flawed as any of us, but more driven and braver than most of us. A person like Bonhoeffer needs no labels. All we can do for him is remember him and attempt to emulate him.
He was a Christian and as such would have objected to your misstatement. There is nothing easy about being a Christian Martyr. Bonhoffer is more Christian than he is anything else. His Faith exemplifies the miracle available to any human being with the curiosity and courage to say,” I don’t believe in Jesus- but I invite you to show him to me. Help me to believe.” God will give you faith and courage and strength to face ANY HORROR on this earth. “ Be thou faithful unto death and I will give the a crown of Life.”- Revelation Chapter 2 verse 10.
Once you have Jesus in your heart, read your Bible out loud daily to build your faith, because “ Faith comes from hearing and hearing the Word.” Doing this every day you will change and soon you will understand the source of his heroism was the unwavering faith of Dietrich Bonhoeffer as given to him by God.
An extraordinary human being and yes, a Christian Martyr, deserving of all honor.
I urge you first to read the Bible (in its’ entirety) and pray to God for understanding. I likewise will be praying for you. The Old Testament you will find God’s promise to conquer death and the New Testament elaborates upon how God accomplished it through Christ on our behalf. I believe Bonhoeffer would attest to this and he courageously displayed his belief through his death. After reading the Bible I recommend you read all of Bonhoeffer’s writings starting with the cost of discipleship. To only categorize Bonhoeffer as a hero is to misunderstand Christianity and Bonhoeffer himself. I say this not to ridicule your current understanding of who Bonhoeffer was, but to deepen your understanding of him and his life and teaching. Blessings to you.

But, you cannot deny that in many instances labels are used drive the ends of the moment. Bonhoeffer was a Christian of eternity not of the moment. Therein lays the difference.

They aren’t difficult to pronounce- unless perhaps you only spoke one language in your childhood? Learning multiple languages in childhood actually helps your brain and tongue have much more flexibility!

As a young girl learning about WWll and the Holocaust, Pearl Harbor, the final solution-atrocities against humanity I asked my grandmother Rose why didn't the US do something earlier to save the people? My mother said she remembered her mother and father taking her the movies and seeing the black and white reels playing ( before the film started) of the ghettos for the jews and then the concentration camps. Her same question why are we the US not doing something to save the people.
Everyone hates the US but when they’re going to war, they run to the US like little girls. “Please help us USA, they’re going to slaughter us!!” They’re expecting the US to just go to the Ukraine and wipe out Russian troops. It doesn’t work like that. Would they do the same for us? I think not. Ukrainian people are also very racist, before the war they would treat black people in their own country like animals. Now they want them to help in the war.

We know this was a great Christian and we are grateful for his courageous example as of millions of christian martyrs through the centuries since Jesus rose from the grave and ascended into heaven to be seated at the right hand of God the Father ever living to make intercession for us. If the Lord Himself was persecuted and killed then so we all should be aware it could happen to any of us. US Christians have been spared much of the persecution but the time is drawing nigh if we fail to RestoreOurRepublic.

15 minutes in & I'm all in. So far, it is an excellent drama documentary on a subject that is rarely addressed.
Perhaps you should read some of the many works regarding Bonhoeffer, his contemporaries, and the times in which he lived and was murdered.

I'm glad I watched this because the important thing is the history though the acting could have been better. My family was from Belgium and those that were there rather than in the US or the UK were murdered. If there had been more people like Dietrich perhaps some would have survived. I understand it is a rough path to risk your life and those of your family and friends by doing such things.

Life after death--grounded in the resurrection of Christ---seems a quaint abstraction when life is going well. But Dietrich Bonhoeffer believed it to be so and it strengthened him during his imprisonment and impending execution.

Notwithstanding Bonhoeffer's picking up of the "sword", he questioned the virgin birth, historicity of the resurrection, said the New Testament was full of "myths", said that Genesis 1 was written because of man's "naivety", and clearly said that the creation account of Adam was a myth. It says something about the sorry state of modern "Christianity" that someone who defended lies and deceit is heralded as a hero of the faith. We read in Proverbs 12:22 "Lying lips are an abomination to the Lord, but those who act faithfully are his delight."

3. Theodor Eicke: While not directly associated with Flossenbürg, Eicke was instrumental in establishing the concentration camp system and influenced practices in camps like Flossenbürg. He was killed in 1943.
4. Friedrich Weber: A high-ranking SS officer involved in the operations of Flossenbürg. He was tried and sentenced after the war.
5. Hans Hüttig: Another officer at Flossenbürg, who was involved in the administration of the camp and faced prosecution post-war.
6. Wilhelm Ruppert: An SS officer who served at Flossenbürg and was involved in the camp's operations. He was later tried for his crimes.
