It wasn't perfect, but it wasn't awful. Nowadays number of true PRO players is seriously decreased. So, you wouldn't be able to win tournaments just because you will eventually get level 20 (true experts just wouldn't show all of their trisks). But still, 1 vs 1 is a road to self improvement (if you would be hard working enough to carefully rewatch your own battles, notice mistakes and improve later). Good luck.
