    It is probably the worst, but it isn't helped by the fact that teams who are usually bottom-half dwellers are a lot more competitive and, therefore, make the easier games harder, minus Southampton. Even though Ipswich were battered by City, they can still pull a result, same as wolves, etc. In short, it's poor timing for United to be in their worst period and had the league not been as competitive as it has, they would still be in the top half.

    My belief in Amorim is not eroding. Recruitment is the most important factor in a team's success and the club have failed at it for years. Additionally, this makes the new board look very bad because they both kept Ten Haag for a big spending summer window, sacked him, and brought the new manager in mid season knowing the personnel do not fit his style despite his wishes to wait. That plus the off the pitch problems recently and I think the fans are beginning to lose faith in the new ownership being any better more than anything else.

    Amorim didn't say it's the worst team, he said we're *being* the worst team... he's talking about performances and results, and that's fine, certainly from my pov, and I trust he's energizing and lifting the team behind the scenes. (awesome vid as ever btw and loved seeing the Sporting pass maps as comparison and guide)

    I think people’s idea of Hojlund is far better than what he actually is. He’s tall, yet wins zero headers. He’s strong, but spends most of the game wrestling with defenders instead of holding them off and laying it off or spinning off of them etc. He’s quick but the runs he makes are honestly shocking. He takes less shots per 90 than most forwards in Europe. Zirkzee who’s not even a “traditional” striker seems to find himself in more dangerous positions than Hojlund all the time. He needs a loan to a Championship team but no one is ever going to loan out a 70 million player to the Championship.

    • @Jackson54321
      @Jackson54321 3 часа назад +2

      I think Rasmus is built how Amorim wants his striker; tall, quick, and has that potential. However, as you pointed out, it is all for nothing practically. United’s non ability to get the ball forward in Ten Hag AND Amorims system shows they don’t have the quality from the midfield. And even when he gets that chance, he can’t properly finish/make the extra effort to get a goal scoring chance (enough).

    I think there are two perspectives here. Specifically and generally.
    More specifically, I’d say Amorim has the (borderline complete) support of match going fans. The reference point is an uninspired lack of identity under ETH. The switch to a back three and wing backs is a clear change in approach and is ‘proof’ of Amorims idea. His press conferences give me confidence that he can identify what he wants from his players.
    I think it’s only his professionalism that’s holding him back from out-rightly saying that his players aren’t capable of executing what he wants. I fear that the longer this goes on, the more the ‘not having the right players’ becomes ‘Amorims ideas don’t translate well the PL’.
    Which brings me to the more general point. Our squad building has been utterly abysmal. It’s the worst squad (in terms of assembly) in the league and is the product of 8/9/10+ years of utter mismanagement absent of any identity. The best 11 no longer just wins you league. The club (and a lot of fans to be honest) are stuck in the old ‘he’s good he will fix it’ mentality. No manager will do anything until the club accepts it’s fundamentally not fit for the modern game and is serious about changing.
    Up the reds.

      100%. This is the result of years of short term thinking has now collapsed in on itself and this is its result. There’s some good players in the squad (Ugarte, Mainoo, Fernandes, Mazraoui) but as a unit they are really mismatched so it doesn’t work on the whole.
      You look back at the summer windows in 2020 and 2021 where we brought in Donny, Telles, Cavani, Sancho, Ronaldo and Varane and now ALL of those players are gone, and we got basically zero for all of them barring Sancho. The only actual successful transfer from that period was Amad. It’ll take a while to turn this ship around

  • @Scare28
    @Scare28 5 часов назад +27

    I'm very confident Amorim is the guy to turn us around, just hope he gets the time and support that he needs to be successful. Surely after trying the same thing repeatedly with multiple managers they will understand that they need to change it up and let Amorim do the necessary things to turn the ship around. This isn't a management problem it's an owner problem. Glazers should've been gone long ago and INEOS are too business focused. Raising ticket prices, crunching numbers here and there to save a few bucks, and disbanding the charity for former Reds when you have players like Casemiro and Rashford with their feet up collecting 300k a week is straight up embarrassing. Amorim is exactly the type of manager I want running my team and it's pitiful if he ends up just like the rest of them.

    The problem is our core player every player revolves around in midfield. Every team has one. City relied on gundogan and bernardo silva. Liverpool relied on salah and firmino. Chelsea relies on palmer who completely changed chelsea. Arsenal on odeegard.
    In our case it's bruno fernandes. We built a team around that guy and despite him being the most creative player on the pitch, he's not the most efficient either. He's wasteful and only plays 3/10 good games. That's the problem. We need a new big midfield presence to lead. Bruno cannot be theain leader in this new era.

    This team has done well only in situations in which they're the underdogs. They just turn off against anyone outside the top 6. I think Amorim is trying to instill a bit of that work ethic and drive we see against the top teams across the board. We can't afford to switch off against Brighton, they're above us in the table, but the players seem to think "oh well it's only brighton, we'll obviously beat them."

    Amorim isn't wrong - certainly in the Premier League era... I'm sure he could do better short term if he changed what he's doing, but he's right, IMO. We'll never progress long term if we simply pander to the players and try to make the best of it. EtH got crucified for not having a style; Amorim is getting crucified for having a style and not changing to fit the players in order to get results. That said, in any system this team was always going to struggle scoring goals; that much was obvious from before the season even began.
    Either way, long term, I think we'll be better off sticking for sticking with it. We can't fix the problem with money so let's take our medicine now and get better.
    Great analysis, thanks.

  • @ishpaljandu
    @ishpaljandu 5 часов назад +1

    Yeah - I agree with you. Watching the last few games there are a few common occurrences on the ball which need attention. You're right in terms of the half spaces - Bruno drops deeper to create a three in midfield but that leaves Zirkzee/Hojlund and Amad isolated because Mazroui and Dalot don't push further forward. With that, there is a real lack of runners beyond the oppositions back line which results in low key passes per game. When Hojlund or Garnacho plays, you can tell they're too raw and require a lot of work still - whilst they push beyond the ball and make forward runs, they're either not found or in Hojlund's case, he miss controls the ball. Generally though, when our strikes do get on the turn and run with the ball there is a real lack of support from the rest of the team and that makes it so much easier for the opposition to defend against.
    Lastly, i think the play is generally too slow - moving the ball around and passing it side to side instead of quickly switching the play. Unfortunately, the only player in the team who can play more than 45 minutes and has that quality is Bruno - we can't ask him to do everything. It's a shame because a determined and in-form Marcus Rashford would really suit this team and allow Bruno to drop deeper to facilitate whilst Zirzkee, Adam and Marcus interchange and create the attacking patterns forward.
    Definitely need two new attacking wingbacks for this system though. I've liked Dalot recently going forward, he is improving but Mazroui is too defensive and would suit a CB role imo

  • @StocksFCWetherz
    @StocksFCWetherz 43 минуты назад +1

    Yes my belief in him has eroded.
    He isn’t setting up his team right for his formation. Wingbacks have to be left footed on the left and right footed on the right. If you don’t then you end up playing like England with trippier at left back. Liverpool game Dalot made an effort to go on the outside and we had more success.
    Hojlund gets zero service, zero. Everything is cut back and then look to cross. It’s utter bs. Idiotic appointment given the profiles the squad has, and idiotic use of the profiles he has.

  • @gavinthomas6288

    I think this is firmly on INEOS. They had a big (and easy) decision to make in the summer and they didn't make it. Now we are paying the price for it. This season was a write off as soon as they announced they were keeping EtH imo, and making such a drastic change in terms of footballing philosophy in the middle of the season has confounded the issue.
    I like Amorim and I think he knows exactly what he wants but cannot get that out of some players or the team as a whole because the squad building over the last three summers has been woeful. There is a fear of belief in him eroding but I don't think I could pin that on him. Again, INEOS and their lack of decisiveness in the summer is what could cause that. And the question of "Does he have the right players to execute his vision" will, unfortunately start to become "His ideas don't translate to this league and he's out of his depth" the longer we are unable to get consistent results. But this team has not been consistent since the beginning of last season; The manager who put it together had the squad under-perform in such a massive way.
    INEOS should have moved for him in the summer. Or at the very least not given him an ultimatum when they brought him in in November. Telling him he needs to come now or not at all wasn't the smartest thing to do, given the state of the playing squad and the lack of funds to back him this month. His reputation will take a hit but that is no fault of his own. There are things I think he could do selection wise that could help on the pitch, but ultimately there is only so much he can do with the unbalanced and unathletic squad he has at his disposal.

    Mainoo's athleticism is a big worry. He's too slow for a 19 year old. He'll hardly be able to move at 29. Once he's goes past, you can be certain 100% that he will never catch up. He holds the ball quite well but in a lot of matches, i don't think he fits a midfield two. I almost think Jorginho is faster than he is.

If you include Amorims Europa League in yellow and look at the key passes sort view, you’ll see that it is purely a case of worse opposition, higher amount of key passes, regardless of manager. You should use xG, which is also not a perfect methodology because it misses a lot of threat (close offside). Overall, the only clear conclusion is that the issue is player talent. My belief in Ruben isn't going away, my belief in ETH never truly went away (although hearing him talk as if the match he watched was somehow different to the one everyone else watched was a bad time). The problem I think, and it's been an issue for a while, is the player's attitudes, there's no one who seems to be capable of inspiring the others either through fear or ability, and no manager will be able to get a tune out of these players if they're not going to run, pass or finish. There's a big attitude problem it feels like and I don't know where it's come from, but they're the first United team in quite some time to be relegation adjacent (if not outright in a relegation battle), so whatever attitude they have or however little they think they need to work, they're wrong. They're are issues top to bottom, no doubt, but who is or isn't the sprint director, or who owns or doesn't own the club, doesn't affect your ability to sprint a bit.

    It's interesting to me the difference in media scrutiny between Amorim and other managers in the league. Obviously he's only been in the job for a few months, but guys like Ange and Russell Martin are/were being lambasted for refusing to budge from their style of play. Similarly to Amorim, they don't/didn't have the quality or depth of squads to make it work, but I wonder if the narrative will turn against him in the next few months. Dare i say he maybe should be being criticised more - Ange and Martin have/had both been at their respective clubs for significantly longer and so had much more time to implement their playing style on the squad, whereas Amorim is trying to imprint a completely different system halfway through a season. At the moment it feels like he's being afforded much more leniency than others but it'll be interesting to see if that changes if results continue to be so poor for the rest of the season.

      The media already have articles and pundits saying he should change his system and still constantly on about Rashford when Amorim has already made his points about both consistently. I feel like he should just ban pre and post match press conferences and not give the media any attention at all.

    it's clearly the worst team, evidenced by the league position. However Amorim is the thing i like most about this entire club right now - his honesty and transparency is a breath of fresh air and he's saying what all united fans have thought for years now. These players have had the arm around the shoulder treatment for years under other managers and it clearly hasn't worked, so this honest and brutal approach is what's needed to call out the players that don't have the grit and determination or that are simply not good enough. So far everything has been stacked against Amorim - started mid way through the season with a squad shot of confidence and no time to work with the players, no money to work with in January, the Rashford situation etc. He needs time to work with the players and money to build his own team. INEOS also haven't been great and have come in with the expectation from the fans to spend some money and invest, but they've done the opposite and in reality they feel like Glazers 2.0.
    I love the way Amorim conducts himself and how he's not trying to cover the cracks that have been there for years. We need to allow him some time and patience.

    1. This is the worst-ever United team. The league table does not lie.
    2. It is right to sack ETH. Maybe should have done so in the summer.
    3. I also doubt if Amorim's 3421 would work in EPL. In reality, it probably resembles more closely to a 3241 like City's. But yes, right now, I do not have too much confidence in him.
    4. I think my biggest problem is IENOS, which called all the wrong shots. The stadium aside, I have questions with almost all the decisions they have made. The sporting director, the manager, okay, we had a decent transfer window. But sacking ETH and replacing him with a manager playing with a completely new system won't work in EPL.

    It’s definitely the worst group of players I’ve seen in 21 years of following United, 110%! For Amorim I’ll back the guy no question, but I have reservations about his system. It’s a system that can easily be made into a 5 at the back when by design he’ll want a three with the wingbacks super aggressive! The imagines you were showing of the first Brighton goal showed clear as day that brave full backs in a four can pin that United system back so easily because the wingbacks in the 5 can’t be aggressive as they’ll be too worried about the opposition wingers, pin this united team back makes a terrible team in transition anyway an even worse one because they aren’t in the positions to recover.

      Depends, some people get fired up by that, some people don't. If you told Zlatan he couldn't do something, you can guarantee he'd do it. I recall a story about Bobby Robson managing Ronaldo, where in training he said to another player (deliberately loudly so that Ronaldo would hear) 'he's not that fast you'll be able to catch him'. Because he knew that Ronaldo would prove him wrong. If players collapse under that criticism that's a quick way to work out who wants to fight and who will give up, because the former he wants, the latter he doesn't

    I don’t understand why there’s not more blame put onto Amorim for his inability or refusal to adapt his tactics to work with his squad. Yes the quality is poor throughout the squad but surely seeing that he has so few profiles that fit his system, he should change his system? Him and Ange are let off far too lightly for their stubbornness in their tactics imo

      He is a system manager. He is not adaptable. It's why Liverpool passed on him. You have to change your entire club to meet his narrow needs, from youth level up. Then when he finally installs his system, it is a matter of time until other teams figure him out. One trick pony.

    He should have been told to swallow his arrogance and accept Ruud's offer of help to stick around and train the forwards. At least until the end of the season. But I think, like EtH before him, the messiah complex kicked in. He wanted the glory all to himself and all he's got is the reality that this job IS FUCKING BIG! Amorim's coaches are not top level and he was seriously delusional thinking they would be good enough to improve this mix of players from the absolute most successful players ever to play the game to academy graduates.
