    My first job was delivering pizzas in a town that was originally built to house people at an army training camp. All the addresses were super easy to find because the streets were all arranged in a grid, named with letters going west to east, and numbers going north to south. So if you're taking a pizza to a house on the corner of 14th Street and C Street, you can see in your head where it is without even having been there before.

    You should check out the grounds of the former Wakeman Military Hospital in Edinburgh, Indiana. It was built shortly before WWII and, at the time, was the largest US Military Hospital in the nation at around 10,000 beds. After closing it was turned over to the US Department of Labor and served as a Job Corp (still part of it is today). There's a lot of information on it online. There was also a lot of steam tunnels underground.

    There’s an old abandoned neighborhood in San Antonio, on the south side. They even framed up the houses, got many built. They were aimed to be commercially built homes for military stationed at Brooks City Base before Brooks was shut down in BRAC.
    Now it’s a ghost neighborhood. I think it’s off SL 13 and SL 1604, if memory serves. You should check it out next time you’re visiting Matt at Demo Ranch.

    My dad absolutely loves metal detecting. He has a book of civil war maps and goes all the time. He has a bunch of bullets, a belt buckle, a spoon, a canteen and all kinds of stuff. He even a bullet thats from the civil war that is in a piece of wood. We also arrowhead hunt. We have quite a few of them as well. You should try that @lunkerstv. We go in spring when farmers plow fields. I live in MD.

    The biggest artillery base now is Fort Sill, Oklahoma. Which is 3 hours north of Dallas. I recommend visiting the base. It’s really cool and it’s home to Lake Elmer Thomas Recreational Area (Lake LETRA) which is full of monster bass and it’s clear water. You can also rent a boat at the lake. Right outside the base is the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge and it has bison, longhorns, snakes, hawks, turkeys, elk, deer, coyotes, prairie dogs, lots of lakes and creeks and so much more. Reminder those animals are free range and can come really close to your vehicle if they choose. Come take a visit.

    Those are probably .308 bullets or maybe .30-06. This is just a shot in the dark (haha pun) but maybe some soldiers were tasked with collecting lead from the range and a few bullets got dropped outside the barracks and left. That might explain why there were a bunch of bullets outside the barracks all clumped in a small area.

  • @Lemonjellow
    @Lemonjellow 5 лет назад +2

    Hey Rob, my educated guess is most of those are M2 Ball .30-06 or M1906 ball .30-06... you can tell by the bullet shape. 150 grain Flat bottom, solid lead core. Most likely M2 ball WWII M1 Garand food, guessing by the date of the location. I'm pretty sure U.S. 7.62 NATO is/was a boat tail bullet, but would be about the same size, obviously. As for the oddball one... maybe an 8mm of some sort or a really crusty British .303.... not sure why it would be there? Might have been a Hotchkiss or Vickers of some sort floating around for training. Who knows.

      I got my book in the first few days after release. But it was a huge let down. Massive number of grammatical and spelling mistakes. Sentences cut off in the middle. No structure to it at all. There was a typo on my cover. It was not edited at all by any kind of professional book editor. It makes Rob look bad and it makes Nick Irving's company look bad for publishing it (even though there is no record of a publisher in the book)

    I found a lot of bullets way older than those some even were mushroomed out as of hitting something

    My instant thought on the bullets being in a random place, maybe they had a working bee, got all the bored soldiers making rounds for the war? They don't look to me like they've been fired and thats really the only explanation i can come up with
