I'm cracking up at the youngsters on this thread that are failing to give props to Kid Capri. This brother is a true OG in NYC Hip Hop - a real DJ. The set is just a medley of old-school joints. He's doing what he is excellent at doing - getting the crowd charged up. Big Up the the Kiiiiiiiiiid Capri!
For real tho' Rick...you're right! Kid Capri, Grandmaster Flash, Jazzy Jeff and JMJ, just to name a few, paved the way for these youngsters today. Mad props to the old school OG DJ's!!!
this is off the hook! I grew up in the 80s/90s in Toronto. This takes me back to those days spending hours inside records stores looking at all the vinyl, making mixed tapes etc. So nostalgic. Enough respect to Kid Capri!
i been following Kid since 91, and actually he's doing what he's always done, people expect Kid to talk, it's what he's known for, he is a master at giving the crowd the "OH Shit" factor, but there's a few recent vids where he is straight mixing and not talking at all and its on point...he still got skills believe it!
People complain about Capri using a laptop and such but Capri has been doing this since almost the beginning. He's just changed with the times but he still is one of the top DJ's of all time. He was doing this before laptops and Ipods, so give respect where respect is do. He made a name for himself before this era of DJing.
Truth! I went to a show in the 90's and he put on a record and turn his back to dig for records for about 2mins. Then, switch the song and turned his back again for another 2 mins. Then he asked the crowd if they're ready. Then he brings out a stack of about 30-40 records for the left turntable and 30-40 records for the right turntable and WENT OOOOFFFFF just like this does in this video track after track no skips and all on beat! Not to mention - no hype man!
That’s it, you need about 30 -40 that match this beat and then 30- 40 that match that beat and then go to town, start blending so they all line up and the beat goes on
Pretty sad most these people commenting to dont know how this game got started. No jokes that Jazy jeff is dope.... so are a lot out there but Kid Capri was always nasty on the decks. Every DJ has there own way but the result is always the same goal. To many dj's sound the same these day. Same mixing, same music, same lame mic sayings.... Kid capri was always original and kept the party hyped. Respect to Kid Capri, Jazzy Jeff, and hundreds more original DJ's... Middle finger to the haters that all look and sound the same.
No I hear you sir. I originaly learned my style from radio dj Mr. Majic from bls and Dj Red Alert Kiss 💋 fm. Kid Capri was around back in those days too. If I am correct he was on wbls. This is when NYC was pretty much the only city having mix shows in the USA. Good memories.
regardless of vinyl or laptop. If you don't know the music, it doesn't matter! Kid graduated years ago from the vinyl so he can do whatever just as long as he keeps rocking the crowd like only he can!! HE IS A REAL OG BETTER THAN MOST OF THE FAKE NEW CATS!! BELIEVE THAT!!
Kid is what you call a real DJ from the Records to serato.... he's an untouchable pioneer.. and whoever hates on him dont know about what a true dj is...A real DJ doesn't depend on the hits to win the crowd over thats what separates One DJ from Another....Originality
Real story...I seen Kid Capri djaying in Atlantic City, NJ and he tore the club up...i mean back to back hit after hit old school new school...killed it ...he played that Heavy D joint The Overweight Lovers in the House and mixed it with Too Hypie...and two females literally passed out from getting to excited ..crazy night ..respect Kid...best DJ I ever saw..hands down...
I’m proud to say I remember every song he put on!! I’m also proud to be part of this special age group in hip hop that can’t be duplicated! It’s unfortunate that so many didn’t and/or still don’t get the respect and recognition they deserve! True School forever ✊🏾
yall wanna hear old ish or new ish?! crowd says OLD ISH! Clearly Hip-hop was once much better than it is...but there is also a lot more opportunity for more people to be artists than back then. But back then artists were ALWAYS artists of the greatest caliber. that for me is the difference. Kid Capri...one of the best in Hip-Hop. top 5.
This takes some SERIOUS coordination. The Kid is SICK. Makes me proud to be a NYer! He really knows how to get an old-school hiphop NYC crowd pumped up
I miss the 90s dearly, along with that the rnb and hip hop of that time, it is timeless and not to be fucked with,,RIP to my friends who didn't make it
OMG !!!!!! Holy shit I've been looking for kids all his mixes.. oh man this shit is bringing me back way back!!!!!! He was the hottest shit out there in our times.. the BIG 80's and 90's .. who ever would ever give him thumbs down don't know shit about good music or real mixing ... not a dam thing now this is real music .. and shit we knew how to have a good time at the clubs.. nothing like now a days.. biggest man ever much crazy love to kid Capri ..
Kid Capri’s ability to talk to the crowd, while simultaneously dropping songs on point, constantly charging the crowd up, scratching, stopping the music, talking his shit, then going back to the music, that’s a skill in itself right there.. Kid Capri birthed a lot of dj’s with his style, he feels the music, and gives you no choice but to get into it!
obviously some folks never heard any of his mix tapes the legend can do it all besides turntablism is not just about mixing its about the experience of being creative . mixing is and art no doubt but ask many djs if they can cut mix and scratch many songs within three minutes and still stay within rythum . i bet most would djs today who think they can do better would stumble in a faceoff. the pressure wud be too great. his skills is like a freestyle rapper which most cant even do unless they do like he did which was practice .
DJ just Southside I feel like I am going back in time lisoning two kid kaaaaaaPri.one of the greatest mixers on the planet I feel like a little kid wen kid kapri was on radio playing clean spiritual hip hop joints wowee that's wen mr magic red alert funk flexs fat man .scoop co co shanail.chuck chill out u rockin hip hop stylee.salute kings music heads enjoy.
Thank u for this this is djing at its core showing these boys and girls how its done listen to the crowd reaction amazing felt like I was back in the bx at the jams in the parks
Ay, if you're still serious drop a comment and we'll start dropping names. I remember when most if these records first dropped...not the original samples they used, but the 80's and 90's hip hip tracks that used them
I watch this set every 6 months just for inspiration. I have since you first loaded this. no one is better at these kind of sets that Kid Capri. Funk Flex is second. Mic work is just as good as turntable work
Kid Capri didn't always mix his tracks, back in the day not everyone always mixed every song in their set into the next. When you were carrying around your crates you couldn't just click once and sort it by BPM. A lot of people just did a baby scratch and dropped the next record: "slammin records". He was known for doin this way faster than anyone else at the time. He is just doing what he knows, and what people LOVED (still love).
How's it the same set from '92 when he went all the way to '99 with the joints he was playing?! Everybody want to be a critic but nobody can say his parties don't bounce ..... I've been rocking with Kid Capri since the Skate Key in the Bronx and he never fails to rock every show ..... you can hear the crowd in this video .... that's all the proof right there that he's one of the greatest still doing it!
Genius, love how he still taks to the crowd. Most DJ's today be lost in they own world or hire an mc. This is some original shit right here. Takes me back to da good ole dayz.
Awesome Set!!! On both ends good songs and great mic work! Yea he cuts the records quick but that is his style and I am pretty sure people who paid to see him knew what they were getting when they got to the event! I DJ and I hope to have something like he does(not copy his style) but be unique enough where people hate or love me. Kid Capri is a legend in NYC and his style is well known.
I was actually in the building that day and I’m telling you The KID CAPRI is an immortal Iconic Hip Hop Superhero and his timing is timeless this performance is legendary...yo flex please apologize to this Pioneer of this art form so we can all move forward and don’t have to witness another DJ missing on a milk carton 😂
I know they closed the gates after capacity was filled. However, if you got there early enough, it was a free event. You could donate some money if you wanted to but it was optional. The only money I spent was on the bottle of Gatorade I got at the bodega on my way back home.
+Jayzon Jones stood at the closed gate for no reason. just playing the part of poor. when your poor you dont even attempt to walk in. you know the struggle is real
to be honest if i was there i would be loving this. you have to accept the fact that there are many different breed of dj's.....you dont have to like it but what works for you may not work for others and vice versa.....its an art.
That's a mental set, a frankly bonkers number of tunes crammed into 20min. Sometimes I'd rather hear more than 5-10seconds of tunes but at the same time the buzz created by flipping between tracks so quickly keeps you on your toes!!
Hip Hop will never die because our classics are timeless.
HE KNOWS HIS MUSIC AND HE IS EDUCATING.....THAT'S A TRUE DJ.......SKILLS
I'm cracking up at the youngsters on this thread that are failing to give props to Kid Capri. This brother is a true OG in NYC Hip Hop - a real DJ. The set is just a medley of old-school joints. He's doing what he is excellent at doing - getting the crowd charged up. Big Up the the Kiiiiiiiiiid Capri!
Amen!!! This one person said "omg he really knows his old school rap"! lmao
For real tho' Rick...you're right! Kid Capri, Grandmaster Flash, Jazzy Jeff and JMJ, just to name a few, paved the way for these youngsters today. Mad props to the old school OG DJ's!!!

not too many people can rock a 20 minute set like that.
The Culture is to be respected...
Legend at work...
He's the king of these kind of sets.
1 thing I must say is watch how he study's the crowd. Something most DJ's (show Dj's) don't do. KC is a legend!
+elvin soanes Elvin, what up this is David Wright. Tell tish to call me lost the number....hope all is well with the fam...
So much hype from the old school heads. LOVE IT! This is what hip hop is about: the beats, the rhymes, and the reason.
this is off the hook! I grew up in the 80s/90s in Toronto. This takes me back to those days spending hours inside records stores looking at all the vinyl, making mixed tapes etc. So nostalgic. Enough respect to Kid Capri!

No dj is better on the mic than him
He is considered one of Hip Hop's "legendary" DJ's. He didn't get the title by accident people!
Growing up in the 80's in the Bronx, really . wow, throw back. YOU can't never get that back priceless. Dammmmmmm, thanks I agree wit you 100% , Kay L

DJ Kid Capri...the Pulse, the Heart, and the Soul of Old School Hip Hop.
In the days when a party was a party, Capri took it to the TOP!
People complain about Capri using a laptop and such but Capri has been doing this since almost the beginning. He's just changed with the times but he still is one of the top DJ's of all time. He was doing this before laptops and Ipods, so give respect where respect is do. He made a name for himself before this era of DJing.
Yeah I remember the 80s and he was cutting, scratching, mixing with 2 turntables and only a mixer.
He's a true dj look at the way he controls the crowd a true legend
Truth! I went to a show in the 90's and he put on a record and turn his back to dig for records for about 2mins. Then, switch the song and turned his back again for another 2 mins.
