Draft version of the warmup lecture for the free and open on-line course Computing 1: The Art of Programming
Computing 1 is an open online version of Richard Buckland's famous UNSW Computing course - Comp1917 "Higher Computing". Now with added PuzzleQuest!
Students will learn programming, thinking like a programmer, problem solving, abstraction, software engineering, agile development methods, unit testing, craftsmanship, assembly programming, stack-frames, computer security, memory and pointers and style all using the language C.
No programming knowledge is assumed just a sense of adventure and curiosity, and a desire to learn programming and how to create useful and beautiful programs which do amazing things.
This is the first in a series of courses which will be running over the next 12 months teaching university level computer science and software engineering. It is from UNSW the top Computer Science and Engineering school in Australia and is an updated version of UNSW's "Higher Computing 1", one the of the popular computing courses worldwide on RUclips.

Computing 1 commences 15 October 2012
This video is chapter (-1) of the course.
Awesome - this is the class that I'd have been in if I'd done 1917. Now I can see younger versions of all my friends :D
Welcome back! I look forward to the course.
There are thousands of teachers uploading lectures to the internet, but every now and then you find someone special. Richard Buckland, you are a legend! *downloads all cs1-cs2-cs3 lectures before NBC has anymore of them removed...* Good day sir. :D
oh wow, a new set of videos!!! ~!!@ !#!@
hi sarah
'A never ending stream of puzzles and challenges' - i'm still on a high from a problem i solved 4 hours ago. So true Richard.
Now I'm late dang it, I was busy with 9 weeks test and this course slipped my mind. Catch up time it is.
NBC...like the peacock logo...That NBC?
What grounds would they have to remove one of his lectures?
I know what lecturer I want this semester.
Indeed, those dogs had lecture 27 removed from CS1. I am still MAD beyond words because of that and other things their kind has done. One day I'm going to destroy their monopoly board and set them free, all of them. I have a few things I need to master first though. :)
looks like it - the one that's going on OL? which I think is the first half.
Heisenberg retired from methlab and back to Programming
Taking this course next year, cannot wait!
Before NBC has them removed?
:)
is this 1917?
hi stanley.
