It would have been useful to see how a missed gainer would have ended into a cartwheel. I mean, to help beginners visualize how safe it is. Keep teaching, you're so good!! ;-)
Yesterday instead of jogging up into my gainer and doing it straight ahead, I gave this a try. At first I was a little skeptical about it and I felt like I was going to land on my knees but after a few preps, I went for it and I landed it first try! Although I tucked and didn't do the 180 twist, I still did the backflip and it felt so easy! After a few more attempts I ended up landing it without tucking! Now, my aim for my next session is to add the half twist in and hopefully land it. Thankyou for the awesome tutorial and for helping me clean up my gainers! 👍👍
Do you think that people who struggle with the cheat gainer are too impatient during takeoff? I noticed that you're left foot doesn't leave the ground until you're right leg is essentially at 90 degrees. A lot of people take off when their swing leg is barely above their plant leg, myself included, and they sacrifice height as a result. I think the problem could be solved by waiting just a little longer until the swing leg is higher above the ground before leaving the ground. I'm no expert, but do you agree?
Thank you for your great work. You mention about the difference in setup for shuriken and dragonfly moonkick, Can you say something more about that? And why now euro step instead of J.
For shuriken the leg stays straight the whole time and for dragon fly you swing straight tuck and then extend the leg for the side kick. I like euro more for the control and conditioning, but J step is usually stronger for most people
I know I'm really late, ive seenr this video a lot but never thought to comment this. I can do kind of like a running gainer, except I travel just like a cheat gainer (no forward momentum). However, it is fully inverted and and both legs land together. No matter how hard I try to kick toward my shoulder/ear, I cant seem to do it right. Whenever I do get myself to go off to the side a little bit, for some reason I accidentally twist and kind of do like a cheat gainer arabian. I don't know, it is weird, I just need help. My body just naturally seems to want to add that 180 when I go not straight over. One more thing, what are your tips for cheat gainer? In terms of landing better and better height?
Hey man! Great stuff! It looks like you go more inverted in this gainer than you do in your cork; can you explain why to me? I feel like it might actually be less scary for me to do the cork that you do, than this gainer, because the cork is less inverted. can you help me?
Yes! I read through both your comments! The cork and gainer can be inverted anywhere from completely horizontal (it helps me to think Bkick) to completely vertical (it helps me to think backflip). what I recommend is learning the gainer with very little inversion, being almost completely horizontal from hip to head. then once you are more comfortable inverting more and more. Learning to do a skill flat and inverted will give you more control later on when you progress to cork and cork variations. I strongly recommend learning gainer then cork just because cork is more complicated and a better prerequisite chain, but its a personal choice. I hope that helped! let me know if you have any more questions. Kyle Skelly made a Backflip fear video, I'd recommend that as well. Most people try to learn cork first because they are scared to go overhead and his video helps with that. ruclips.net/video/jRhDCP4kOKc/видео.html
Brendan Morrison thank you so much for the detailed answer! i will try it when im back in the gym... i have my btwist and backflip but i just have trouble going for gainers for whatever reason and anyway i think thinking of it like a btwist will work for me! thank you!
Brendan Morrison hey i think my reply got deleted for some reason lol but i was trying to say that i have my btwist and my backflip but i think that thinking of the cork as a btwist will help me cause i alrdy have that. heres a link instagram.com/p/BYbAdaMFv6S/ and thank you!
Jake Tedrick the Btwist looks solid! But so does the Bkick. You can learn gainer if you think about it like a swing Bkick! All tricks are analogous! Btwist is just like cork and Atwist and Raiz twist
I completely understand what you mean. A while back Kyle Skelly made a great fear video on his channel Plan Zero here is the link! I might help a ton ruclips.net/video/jRhDCP4kOKc/видео.html
great vidoes man. I havent tricked in 5 years because of medical school. Im planning to come back and your videos probably will help me get to where i want to be faster
Thank you my good sir!! Ive cherished living my life as a medical student with all these knowledge and tricking as a hobby, impresses people along with it as a bonus lol. Btw, Could you also request doing a back layout tutorial as well?
hey brendan question. Have there been different names calling gainer a gainer flash as well? Ive seen many opinions behind and I speculated that a gainer flash is a gainer doing a flash kick, not the same as a normal gainer. It's baffled me quite a bit. A gainer flash is what that is and a prereq for a cork?
Not at all, most of my friends learned in the same style. I think its safer to work Gainer -> cork but others feel its the other way around. Its up to you to decide your own progression scheme.
Your Personal Squip he did say it was how you could cath yourself if you fall, look at one of his gathering videos where he does insane combos with amazing and clean transition moves. I swear this isnt anything like tumbling if you get into it!
It would have been useful to see how a missed gainer would have ended into a cartwheel. I mean, to help beginners visualize how safe it is. Keep teaching, you're so good!! ;-)
I agree, Honestly I forgot to get that shot that night :( but like I said I agree completly

do you need to learn back flip in order to do a gainer?
Nope

Not at all, most of my friends learned in the same style. I think its safer to work Gainer -> cork but others feel its the other way around. Its up to you to decide your own progression scheme.
