3 Steps to Unceasing Prayer

- First Thessalonians 5:17 says to “pray constantly,” but how do we do that? In this video, Fr. Mike Schmitz suggests a three-step approach used by St. Francis de Sales. These steps can be difficult or easy, but the important thing to remember is that simply inviting God into every moment is as good a way to pray as any.

I constantly say the Jesus prayer throughout the day - “Lord Jesus Christ, son of God, have mercy on me, a sinner.”

What a great idea Steve! I am going to use this comforting prayer.
I say, “Hail Mary full of Grace“ or I say the real Hail Mary prayer, much of the day.
I also say this prayer. And i add: JESUS YOUR WILL BE DONE. JESUS I TRUST IN YOU.
Came here with this in mind. The Eastern Church got this one right for sure

This is so much simpler then I imagined non-stop prayer to be. I tried memorizing litanies and acclamations and they felt like a struggle at times. Thank you so much, this feels so gentle, doable and effortless. 🙏

Love it. Thank you Fr. Mike! Reminds me of my mom's advice to "offer it up" whenever we were going through a difficult time or situation.
Yes, my mom too. It must have been a common Catholic theme in those days (she was born in 1928 in South Africa)?
Offer it up! This was said in Newfoundland Cañada & St. Louis, MO, where I lived growing up. God bless all the nuns in my life!
My mom said the same thing as well. She was a busy stay at home Mom who raised 5 kids. She always found time to pray and set a good example for us.
My mom would say "offer it up to the souls in purgatory". This made any discomfort better.
I've been asking God for the past few months to teach me to have a nonstop prayer with him. Then this video come up, Thanks Father Mike!!!

Because sometimes, or most of the time, we forget to acknowledge and appreciate His attentiveness to us. God seeks for our attention and love.
When I say the morning offering, I try to say, every breath I take, every step I take, every time I speak, every time I look let it be an offering of praise and thanksgiving to you dear lord

The Divine Mercy prayer is an amazing prayer to connect with jesus suffering on the cross.
Whenever I feel joy, I pray "My God I love thee."
Whenever I have any kind of suffering, I pray, "Jesus, Mary, I love you. Save souls."
Amen! The sign of the cross is an awesome and simple prayer as well that we tend to overlook and breeze by. For me it's been a way of saying "i'm YOURS GOD" and of being anointed with a deeper unity in the one true God.

I love St Francis de Sales, I highly recommend his book, Introduction to the Devout Life. But I forgot this lesson! It's a little scary. What if I don't want God being attentive to me at this moment of laziness or weakness? Guess what? I'm less likely to be lazy or weak if I remind myself God is attentive to me! ;) Thank you, Father! And thank you, St. Francis de Sales!

Makes sense how I’ve been feeling for months since almost dying. Every moment is amazing with Him.
Yup! I just discovered this since September. I wish I'd figured it out years ago..because I work with kids. Of all ages. And hormone levels. And learning abilities. And emotional conditions. I will say that it's much nicer every moment no matter what happens. Come, Holy Spirit. Come!

Father, this helps me a lot! You are positive but hammer the truth home without making it difficult to swallow for sinners such as I.
I have had a few moments in my life where I would be quietly enjoying God's presence whether walking on a beautiful fall day enjoying nature, and something would happen such as tripping over something, bang my knee, or some other simple folly that most people would immediately get just a bit mad for a fleeting moment. But instead, I would laugh, and I would picture God smiling at me as I physically looked up to smile and would hope he laughed lovingly with me in that moment as I was doing.
Oh my!!! What a confirmation! I have made the observation that in the morning before my day starts I ask God to reveal Himself in Scripture and then after reading pray...ask Him to be with me and help me to do His will and act in a way that is pleasing to Him during the day...I can tell you because I'm not consistent with this morning routine that it works!!!! My day becomes a prayer because when I ask the Father to be with me. And the days I'm negligent...I notice. Thank you Fr. Mike! I NEEDED that confirmation
I ask, God; that you ,Father Mike, is never weary of making videos and teaching us.

I have a prayer book. Morning prayers starts. I adore you, my God, & i love You with all my heart.I thank You for having created me, made me a Christian, & kept me this night. I offer you my actions of this Day, grant that they all May be according to your holy will & for Your great glory. Keep me from sin & all evil. In a book on rachel scott her mum needed desperately some new car tires so she constantly openly talked to God asking him for help that's some faith and dedication and basic conveying those book are an inspiration and should be compulsory reading no matter what your belives or lack off
Thank you Fr Mike. I love the AOA motto and I will incorporate that into my days. Please pray for me and my family and for a deceived Ireland that has been brought to darkness with the pretence of liberalism and tolerance. These only apply to certain aspects of life and beliefs. If you stray from the accepted new ways, you quickly find yourself the target of intolerance and hatred.
I am finding it hard to live in a world where the hypnosis of the lie seems to hold such sway with people I know are loving and kind at their core.
