@15:00 yeah that does make sense and if you buy the $200 real ones they might last you longer considering you spend $20 the last six months hypothetically then over the time you want to use some of you might spend $400 on the fake ones and they may not be as comfortable. Or I can give an example with Apple watches if I were to get the cheap $10 watchband, they lost an average between 3 to 6 months if I just keep on replacing them every time one broke because they tend to rip apparently then I would’ve spent over $400 and watch bands and the time I’ve had my watch well over $400 and just those $10 watch bands but I’ve had the same watch band that came with my Apple Watch and I got mine about two weeks after it launched needs a second an Apple Watch and still works perfectly to this day the watch band.
Okay but the premise of wearing Lolita, something that can be perceived as an alternative fashion, being worn to shop for a hollow shell of its former self--much like Spirit Halloween dresses itself up in the hollow shells of previously occupied buildings--is the most Spirit Halloween thing you can do in this situation.
When I’m on low budget and want to buy a lot of clothes, I just go to a damn thrift store. Like even if I don’t get anything, to me this is infinitely more fun than buying from a fast fashion brand because I get to look through tons of weird and original clothes
@@cursed-cat9126 TRUEE also super expensive stuff down like half a price!! I have a friend who found demonias for about 100 pln which is like 20 dollars!!! They were a little worn down but definitely still wearable
My mother found a cute loliable dress at the thrift store once. I wasn’t convinced at first but I put in a petticoat, wrist cuffs, headdress etc and it was actually nice
My very thrifty mother always instilled in me to "buy clothes that will be worn as many times as dollars they cost." The value of clothes is not be amassed but to be worn. 5 shein dresses are not better than a foxblood dress because you will ultimately get more wear out of a foxblood dress.
They also did a line with a gorgeous séance print, I own the skirt and it has a beautiful melancholic gothy vibe, it's spooky but also elegant. Lady Sloth is awesome!
I find that Spirit Halloween is so good at accessorizing for Lolita especially if you're going for a theme. And my spirit Halloween they had I think it's called a peasant blouse in the steampunk section. There was a white version and a burgundy version. When I took it out I was so surprised at how soft it is and that it was thick so it's not see through. It's also cute enough to where I think that it would look good as Lolita blouse and I can easily pull the sleeves up to cover my shoulders. they also have it in plus size and the fact that it was only $20-$25 was a steal for me. Now I want to buy some white ones and dye them because I need blouses in other colors too 😅
yess! I love getting accessories from Halloween stores! I even get accessories from the 99c store sometimes, though those are usually just necklaces or earrings or something but they often are cute and kitschy enough that they fit with the sillier themes I like to go for
I don't mind the "spooky doll" costumes as much when they're not cupcake cuts and much more clearly based off of actual antique porcelaine dolls, but then I touch the fabric and I'm back to full nope again LOL! I love Spirits for accessories, especially stockings and headpieces since it's much harder to find fun ones normally AND there's no shipping faff. I really really love your cosplay/character lolita for Chucky! That'd be a fun thing to wear to a convention too, and I love doing cosplay characters but in alternative fashion. Gives me new inspiration on how to use clothes I already have and helps prevent me buying more stuff just for a cosplay. Lots of fast fashion in cosplay these days with folks just buying premade costumes and constantly cycling through the "hip new characters" rather than reusing costumes, and alternative fashion folks doing takes on characters is a way to do less of that and it ends up being really stunning and unique too!
She’s doing gods work lol cause she wants what’s best for the lolita community 😂😂😂 Halloween I want to do oogie boogie I can pay 75 for a cheap costume Or spend 150 to get a custom one I can wear at con’s and beyond I’d rather spend the extra for longevity

13:30 I love how you mentioned that! I will say that a lot of Halloween stores have great head accessories that are appropriate for ouji fashion (most specifically those stupid mini hats) that are sometimes worth considering. A lot of them are somewhat similar if not the same as some of the taobao hats, however, they can also easily be altered with more lace or gems
Honestly, we really need to go back to how Halloween costumes were. Either repurposing existing clothes, like clothes that might be beyond wear into another piece. Or buying/making costumes with the explicit purpose of wearing it again. For instance, I wanted to go as cardinal Copia one year, so I made a Victorian bodice version of his coat so it can either be a costume or just a nicer bodice. People could even use this to build their cosplay options by making a new cosplay every year that you can later rewear to cons later in the year. There are so many ways to make Halloween costumes that don't waste money in the long run.
Such thoughtful and important commentary regarding fast fashion, costumes, cultural appropriation, and thoughtful spending! Thank you for speaking up!! ❤ Also that last Chucky coord… too cute.
U know what sucks too? Is that people who cant spend that much on something end up usually having to pay more in the long run because the clothing they buy just does not last very long. For 1 expensive pair of shoes u will last 5 years at least, while cheaper ones fall apart after a year... and then you have to buy another one, and another one. So by the time those expensive ones are finished the cheaper ones have been replaced way more making the amount u spend on it way more.... but you literally don't have enough to buy the expensive one so its an endless cycle... $65!?? Spirit is so insanely overpriced for the quality. At least the black dress isnt as bad but the pink one omfg. I like that sweater tho sometimes they occasionally have decent stuff lol I need a pink witch coord now too
I'm really happy that there's more outlets to find Lolita + share the history and culture around it! Im just dipping my toes into it now and I wouldn't know where to even start on my own.
For me "no ethical consumption in capitalism" is more like "don't shame someone from buying something they needed from Amazon when you're buying from Walmart" sort of thing. Like big companies are all ethically dubious and I don't think anyone's supply chain is free enough from that garbage to be judging others.
Unexpectedly a fantastic video about ethical consumption I recently did a talk about this topic, and the amount of garments thrown out in a year was like 92 tons when I looked it up. I’m sure little to none of that was Lolita. Throwing away Lolita is unheard of. Basically, we should all wear Lolita. 😁
*not unexpected that Lor made a great video, unexpected that the topic of ethical consumption was so eloquently described in a video about Halloween stores
"this reminds me of high school... IT FEELS TERRIBLE" that's a whole ass mood Edit; at 22:25 , I have to be the annoying person and ask where you got that halloween sugar cookie backpack, that is the cutest thing I've ever seen
I'm wearing a Slyveon coord for Halloween. I found a sylveon headband for cheap on mecari and everything else are things that I already own because I tend to gravitate towards sweet peices. due to Sylveon sweet lolita pallette and ribbon motifs I feel like Sylveon is a very easy and cute inspiration coord. Another member of my comm has also previously done a sylveon inspired coord.
Excellent video! You really came prepared in case this left the EGL community. Really great points on fast fashion vs the secondhand nature of lolita dresses. The Chucky outfit was so well put together!!
I was looking forward to seeing some silliness but got entirely engrossed by the intro discussion. Very important points there! I definitely think lolita has changed my approach to fashion, although I've always wanted to buy few but quality items, It's really got me seeing the worth of spending a bit more on something that I love a lot and will last. I bought my first lolita piece this time last year (since my bodyline days as a child over a decade ago), and took the plunge on a made to order dress in the summer, of course it's easier to wait for the long term gratification as an adult, and grateful for that, it's so easy to get swept up in consumer culture.
The things you end up going back for are actually cute as hell like the way you style the jumper! The dusty witch hat is everything! The spooky mashup character omigoooood so cool 💕💕

I purchased the angel version of the halo crown you featured in the video and it surprised my comm to find out it’s from Spirit!! It’s quite sturdy + versatile for those ✨ethereal vibes✨, would def recommend to others who are on the fence of purchasing one themselves!
Spirit is actually great for the accessories! I got a really nice armor ring and a set of claw rings that are really nice and gothic and I went to a party (goths vs cowboys lol) and literally EVERYONE was obsessed with the rings and went insane when I told them where I got them from.
me: finds an Angelic Pretty dress in the Goodwill Halloween section for under $20. It didn't fit me, but it went to a person who absolutely adores it. I'm a mom of 2, and I don't invest as much into my wardrobe as I would have 15 years ago.. however, if you're patient and don't mind the hunt, there's high quality cosplay pieces and such at Goodwill and St. Vincent DePaul from time to time, at least in the Pacific Northwest.. though it is like searching for a needle in a hay stack..💚
The pink witch hat is actually lovely! Dusty rose is the color I wear the most, it would make nice lolita-witch for halloween. the madonna hairband is also really cool! Love your Chucky version!!! also the Ghostface!
I want to live in a world where Lor doesn't have to explain that the book/films "Lolita" are not connected to Lolita. Lor should be entitled to financial compensation lol
I am going to do what I did last year and finish a dress that I had already planned to make. I am going to be a mushroom girl/lolita! 🍄 I really want to finish my first Lolita dress, it would have been finished soon but I injured myself in the process. I cannot wait to have a dress to go over my petticoat.
I always dress up every work day in October, this year I’m doing 20 costume coords! Some of them aren’t perfect since it was a bit rushed but I’m having lots of fun
... as someone with the 2nd dress, adding an additional petty coat or those tulle tutus that they usually also sell under the skirt can help a lot with the shape and if you stuff the hat with grocery bags(or the arm things) you can reshape it to more of a decent hat shape which can be pretty cute. (also it's a good size to gently balance on your cat's head so they get a tiny cat sized top hat)
I have a neice that has done the Lolita fashion for years now it started her Senior year of High-school and she just turned 30 this year. She's not from a rich family in any way and has always worked really hard. She has a wonderful amount of fancy dresses and more everyday dresses, but she is very lucky enough to have a Grandmother, my Mother, who sews. I'm not talking about a person who just happens to sew and knows how to use a pattern, no my Mom is a wonderful seamstress. We have been trying to tell her for years that she should start an online store. I just wanted to point out that she wasn't always able to do this type of work, she started out with a old sewing machine from the 50s that she got second hand and took home economics in Jr high and High-school and she just started collecting fabrics and patterns from wherever she could. When I was born in the 70s I was allergic to polyester and she started making my clothes, since polyester was everywhere back then. But my point is, nowadays with the computer we have information at our fingertips, learning a skill like sewing is always a great thing, since we will always need to wear clothes, unless society collapse and we all live in warm climates. Sewing machines can be found relatively cheap and the older models are easier to use than the fancy ones to start out. Fabrics are everywhere and don't need to be on a bolt of cloth. Curtains, table cloths, and old clothes can be remade into new items. I've seen 2 old prom dresses from the 80s turned into an amazing Lolita dress and an old wedding gown with a fully embroidered train and veil made into a beautiful christening dress and baptism dress for a pair of sisters. But there Definitely was enough to make a adult sized dress. Of course the first attempt might not be magazine showpiece but the more you make, learn and explore, the better you can get.
You were in my dream last night! You were doing a stream with Dollightful and you didn't want her to call you Lor, you wanted her to call you by your streamer name which was something like xxThriifty_gurl1984. It was funny.
loved this video!! this isn't the most related, but as i've grown up i've really grown to dislike how wasteful halloween costume shopping is in general. spending a bunch of money for stuff you'll never wear again sucks, and lots of us don't have the means to buy a new costume every year. i've made it a point to look at my wardrobe, figure out a costume, then only buy halloween pieces i WILL wear normally - and usually the halloween store is the last stop after thrifting. i know this method doesn't work for everyone as i personally enjoy a more emo/scene look but i've found lots of my simpler "costume" pieces actually look great in my wardrobe year-round.
Thanks for bringing up the cultures and costumes thing lor! Im native/indigenous and seeing costumes of vague "indian" costumes always makes me sick to my stomach 🤕 But for halloween, i plan on being a gothic lolita black cat! I have a coord with Winter Cemetary by Lady Sloth as the main piece and i have a large cat head that i plan to use with it
Im not involved nor have any interest in wearing lolita but i ended up here somehow and you are one of the most based creators i have seen, love the bootlicler shaping and educated opinions
It just makes sense to make costumes from real clothes from the thrift store. Your skin will thank you. Also I’ve done the creepy Victorian doll costume and just used one of my Lolita dresses with some torn up tights, pigtail wig, and creepy make up. It was way better than $65 cheap costume and the only cost really was tearing up my tights because I had to buy new ones that weren’t torn for regular wear.
Thank you so much for the bit about fast fashion mentality. You really put thinks into perspective when you said “1 great quality dress at 100, or FIVE dresses for 100!”. I’ve been trying to only thrift/support ethical businesses when shopping, but still get that temptation… you know? Anyways, you’ve inspired me to quit shopping at fast fashion stores. 😊 Thanks again, so much! !❤
I had the same halloween costume from age 6 to 11 or 12 because my mum brought it big so it could be reused for more years. Another halloween I had was the binbag witch I had a witch's hat, broom long sleeve black top and black leggings with a binbag on top. It was alot of fun
As an ouji, I definitely have learned to cherish the items I have, and 90% of my collection is second hand from egl-adjacent resale sites. If you know your resources, you don’t have to spend $500+ on that new Alice and the Pirates vest 😭
As a kid who has no Lolita dresses and is willing to buy a £60 one after saving up for almost a month, I didn’t even THINK about people throwing dresses away! 😂 If that thing tears I’m sewing it.
seriously several of my favorite earrings for lolita i got from spirit halloween! nice to see other folks using stuff they got from spiti too lol. this video was a lot of fun ^_^
For that simple gothy black dress, I'd go to hot topic before shein any day. They have a billion options online and often have sales. I admittedly don't have a ton but the few dresses and skirts I have got from there have been fantastic quality.
Thank you for saying out loud all this, it's very important to make people responsible and aware of the impact of fast fashion...we need to consume more ethically, this is why I try to buy second hand as much as possible (and tend to feel guilty when I buy new- except if it's from a creator !) and buy qualoty material as much as possible ! PS : I think people shouldn't buy from Shein at all because they steal many designs from independant creators :(
A year later I'm here to make a comment, but since I only recently discovered Lolita fashion it may seem off-topic. I never got the concept of wearing a costume only once on Halloween even as a kid. In fact, as a kid I repurposed Halloween costumes into casual wear or casual wear into Halloween costumes. I even once had a simple green dress that I usually used to sleep in and added accessories to create a Sophie the Swamp Witch(Neopets) costume, or took mermaid costume gloves and made them part of a daily outfit by matching them to a blue dress.
The thriving resale market leading to clothes having many lives in lolita is actually a draw for me. Partly for sustainability and partly because if I don't like something or decide I don't want to wear it any more I can send it on to someone else and not the void of a thrift store donation and recoup most to all of what I spent. I just wish lolita brands would use real leather for bags and shoes so they would last. I love the style of lolita bags and shoes but want something that won't implode in like 5 years. I still pine for my old grey AatP Justine boots. And I loved how you incorporated some costume shop accessories into coords, it was fun. I have gotten some GREAT OTT fake nails from Spirit which I use for more extravagant coords too.
I finally bought my dream dress, 2 YEARS after I first saw it! It's the op version of The Holy Cross from Cel Lolita Studio, I just saw the listing, my size, favorite colorway, I'm just so happy it's crazy-
I don’t know about other kids, but my parents never bought me a costume and I still don’t buy costumes now, if I want a costume we had to make it whether that was from thrift stores or from scratch Edit: we also had to potentially plan 2 versions every year, one for school and one for trick or treating (or have 1 that could fit over a snowsuit) because it was usually below zero and snowed before Halloween haha 🇨🇦 We also weren’t driven around like some kids
I like lolita clothing. I've learned to sew because the dresses are too short they need to be long or I can't wear them. Sewing the clothes is very satisfying also
I’m doing a steampunk Lolita look for Halloween, but I’m making the dress with my mom based on a 600$ dress, I’m making the wings and I’m buying the glasses (and possibly gasmask) I love Lolita fashion and would wear it if I had the money, but I don’t :P but imma wear this dress often, wear the glasses often, wear the mask and wings often, it’s not a costume really, it’s more so an excuse to get candy and make/wear something I love
for what it's worth, I loved the intro and fast fashion segments of the video! would you consider doing a video assembling a look from items you find at thrift / secondhand shops?
Lol I did the opposite of this where I used lolita fashion to dress up as a character. It was like “closet cosplay” but using my lolita wardrobe, and I thought it fit the character well enough.
I am so tired of people trying to tie Melanie Martinez to lolita fashion. That is just such a stretch and I'm so tired of her being a punching bag for the lolita community.
Lor could you do a review of one of my favorite Etsy Lolita shops (It’s so hard to find someone who does plus size Lolita, but they always pull through) On Etsy they are known as NightWhisper or NightWhisperLolita
Your cupid madonna crown look really reminded me of Ali Project, specifically Arika’s golden look in the video for Seishoujo Ryouiki. There’s another look of hers it reminded me of, but I can’t remember exactly which one - but I was obsessed with her femme fatale lolita back in the late 00s!
I have 2 Lolita inspired dresses (and both are oggie boogie inspired) and I'm wearing the pink one on Christmas and the burlap sack looking one on Krampus Noct. (December 5tn and 25th)
What If I’m dressing up as a character from a video game that we’re “traditional” garments (say Maya fey from ace attorney) is that one (I am not Japanese btw)
i feel so called out, i was working on my ghostface costume while watching this :0 i think it's sad that people don't reuse costumes. people would think you were nuts if you bought normal clothing knowing you were only going to wear it once. i think it's fun to upgrade my costume every year :]

I absolutely LOVED this video! And we need more Ludicrous Lor!😂
I love all of the looks you did for this (the Chucky one is so creative!), so much inspiration!
This is such a good video, Lor!! Great job. And thank you Native for continuing to sponsor my favorite Lolita creator
The blonde wig you have looks so good. It looks so soft and the fluffy curls. ❤
I really like you essay/ explanation videos. Thank you for the intro before trying on costumes.
Oh my god you are so lucky 😭😭😭 A girl I knew found a BTSSB skirt at Savers. I'm still hoping it'll happen to me one day
seeing the example of a costume at 1:09 and immediately going "ah. canada from hetalia."
I love that Miss Danger look! That crown and the contact lenses look excellent!
THAT WITCH HAT AHHHH I NEED IT. It's so cute ;~;
Cool. I've done five Halloween costumes and looks so far with five more to go.
... as someone with the 2nd dress, adding an additional petty coat or those tulle tutus that they usually also sell under the skirt can help a lot with the shape and if you stuff the hat with grocery bags(or the arm things) you can reshape it to more of a decent hat shape which can be pretty cute.
This is so funny but it makes so much sense
loved this video!! this isn't the most related, but as i've grown up i've really grown to dislike how wasteful halloween costume shopping is in general. spending a bunch of money for stuff you'll never wear again sucks, and lots of us don't have the means to buy a new costume every year. i've made it a point to look at my wardrobe, figure out a costume, then only buy halloween pieces i WILL wear normally - and usually the halloween store is the last stop after thrifting. i know this method doesn't work for everyone as i personally enjoy a more emo/scene look but i've found lots of my simpler "costume" pieces actually look great in my wardrobe year-round.
Thanks for bringing up the cultures and costumes thing lor! Im native/indigenous and seeing costumes of vague "indian" costumes always makes me sick to my stomach 🤕
But for halloween, i plan on being a gothic lolita black cat! I have a coord with Winter Cemetary by Lady Sloth as the main piece and i have a large cat head that i plan to use with it
Lolita ghostface is absolutely sending me lmao that’s such a good idea 😭😂
Thank the gods for fast forward
I missed your videos Lor
Thanks again, so much!
Omg I saw a lolita plague doctor at ren fest and I almost died her outfit was sooo cute 💙💙💙💙
For that simple gothy black dress, I'd go to hot topic before shein any day. They have a billion options online and often have sales. I admittedly don't have a ton but the few dresses and skirts I have got from there have been fantastic quality.
Some of my nicest goth dresses came from Hot Topic to be honest.
It's the op version of The Holy Cross from Cel Lolita Studio, I just saw the listing, my size, favorite colorway, I'm just so happy it's crazy-
I don’t know about other kids, but my parents never bought me a costume and I still don’t buy costumes now, if I want a costume we had to make it whether that was from thrift stores or from scratch
Edit: we also had to potentially plan 2 versions every year, one for school and one for trick or treating (or have 1 that could fit over a snowsuit) because it was usually below zero and snowed before Halloween haha 🇨🇦
We also weren’t driven around like some kids
I am working on a moth man and a Kiki’s Delivery Service coord, and this gave me some ideas :)
👻😍🤩GHOSTFACE LOLITA! GHOSTFACE LOLITA! GHOSTFACE-
sorry, I'll never let this concept go now
20:48 looks just like Sundrop from FNAF!!
The purple halloween style dress you have in this video is gorgeous i reallt want it 😭
I like lolita clothing. I've learned to sew because the dresses are too short they need to be long or I can't wear them. Sewing the clothes is very satisfying also
Jokes on you I wear my Halloween costumes all the time *evil laughs in broke cosplayer*
Dw I don’t buy Lolita costumes 😭
I’m doing a steampunk Lolita look for Halloween, but I’m making the dress with my mom based on a 600$ dress, I’m making the wings and I’m buying the glasses (and possibly gasmask) I love Lolita fashion and would wear it if I had the money, but I don’t :P but imma wear this dress often, wear the glasses often, wear the mask and wings often, it’s not a costume really, it’s more so an excuse to get candy and make/wear something I love
That chucky look was amazing! loved the video! 😁
20:50 is giving sundrop from fnaf I love it
LOLITA GHOST FACE IS EVERYTHING
for what it's worth, I loved the intro and fast fashion segments of the video! would you consider doing a video assembling a look from items you find at thrift / secondhand shops?
I bought a Frankie Stein cropped top from spirit Halloween and wear it regularly
I am in love with it
OMG TEDDY CHOCOLATIER!!!! 💝💝💝😍
Also small costume shops have way higher quality items and you can use certain items in different ways
horror movie villains but Lolita might be the greatest thing I’ve ever seen
"It makes me nostalgic for High School...it feels terrible" Enough said, LOL. BTW, I love your little Pennywise moment.
I’m still working, and saving up for my first coord, and collecting the pieces for the coord.
The chucky coord is the only instance where the term “living doll” can be associated with Lolita.
amazing video on consumption, im sick of reminding people that lolita is a LUXURY
Lol I did the opposite of this where I used lolita fashion to dress up as a character. It was like “closet cosplay” but using my lolita wardrobe, and I thought it fit the character well enough.
For a convention I'm going to there's gonna be alot of lolitas and cosplayers so I'm cosplaying characters with lolita peices ^^
I enjoyed the educational info at the start
I am so tired of people trying to tie Melanie Martinez to lolita fashion. That is just such a stretch and I'm so tired of her being a punching bag for the lolita community.
Lor could you do a review of one of my favorite Etsy Lolita shops
(It’s so hard to find someone who does plus size Lolita, but they always pull through)
On Etsy they are known as NightWhisper or NightWhisperLolita
I love love love the way native smells but I need clinical protection deodorant so unfortunately they do not work for me ;c also love this video
Your cupid madonna crown look really reminded me of Ali Project, specifically Arika’s golden look in the video for Seishoujo Ryouiki. There’s another look of hers it reminded me of, but I can’t remember exactly which one - but I was obsessed with her femme fatale lolita back in the late 00s!
i adore that chucky themed one, its so cute but work so damn well
the chucky one was so cute and now i want to see a lolita look for M3gan
20:39 I’m going nuts over this coordinate bro
(Praying I spelled coordinate correctly haha)
Ghost face lolita!! That's so cute!!!
