On today's docket for #IFDRecruitClass89 ….The flashover chamber. The 64 recruits were split into two groups with one group at the City of Lawrence training grounds and the other at the #IFDTrainingAcademy. Today's evolutions are the culmination of 3 days of fire dynamics and behavior training.
The flashover chamber helps to teach these recruit firefighters how to recognize the 4 phases of fire, incipient (212 degrees), growth, fully developed & decay AND to recognize signs of imminent #Flashover which typically occurs at about 1128 degrees.

Big thanks to the Incumbent #IFD firefighters, detailed away from their stations, who joined the training academy staff at today's burn to mentor the recruits and help ensure their safety. As part of the required equipment checks, each and every recruit is buddy checked from head to toe to tuck in loose straps, fabric, close gaps, ensure proper fitting gear and mandatory hydration before, during and after each burn.
