That's interesting. The MCU inside this older version is not just slowing down but also glitching out in some parts. It probably uses a clock crystal instead of an internal oscilator (which is what is used in the ones that slow down when the batteries go flat) and it also probably uses a more complex chip.
Something that was probably made for more than just play a song and stop. As such it is also a bit more power demanding and if one of the logic elements in the main CPU core screws up it can set registers to run on a slower (or faster) clock speed by what we can hear in the video or crash the chip line in the last part.
There are complex chips that are based on the Z80 or 6502 which are old CPUs used in some computers from the early 80's instead of simple purpose made logic. (fun fact: the Furby uses a 6502 based microcontroller from GeneralPlus)
This makes coding easier but can become unstable in low voltages and sometimes eat through standard AA batteries like Snicker bars.
