Just shot a $40k feature-film using only the A7IV. Nobody needs an Arri or Red as long as they have production design and an eye for lighting. Great work guys!
I believe Danny has started a revolution in the film industry. Hopefully we see more and more RUclips filmmakers make longer form narrative content. I can’t wait to see his movie in Chicago!
lol, they're definitely downplaying their disagreements on set during this video. Pretty funny. I think this is the biggest issue with hiring someone to do something you yourself are used to doing. Because they will always bring their own taste to the table, and if it doesn't align with your own vision you'll be left frustrated thinking about how you could be doing it all yourself. That's the biggest lesson I learned watching this video,
This is a fantastic behind the scenes look at how you made your film. It's really cool to see how much you guys just had to roll with it and change things up on the fly to get the shots you needed. Really makes me wanna get back out and shoot my next short. Great job guys!
The shots are absolutely beautiful. You can tell just by looking at them that a lot of love went into the process. The Sony Venice is a beast of a camera as well. I don’t know which platform this film will be released on but I can’t wait to see it.
This is so awesome! Thanks for sharing. I can't wait to see the film; I will wait for it to come out. Congratulations to you and the crew, the footage looks great!!!
I think some times we get caught up perfection which takes away from the grit and feeling..thats why now i talk to the actors and we film with less and get a natural look instead of the cosmetic look
This is so freakin interesting to watch - thanks a billion for making this for us filmmakers on the rise. When and where will we be able to see the film?
Guys this looks sensational. Your lighting and pictures look sensational. Seriously the Venice rivals the Alexa with that smooth resin velvet look. Anyone wanna buy my red dragon????
6k is only relevant for detail in regards to what Corey was saying. Its not exactly the same but it’s 100 percent usable when your output is going to be 4k either way.
Was thinking the same thing? There is a similar feel between cropping the image rather than changing the lense, however the compression of a 35mm to a 50mm defo has a slightly different feel, especially when you look at the compression of the Frame & Bokeh itself. Love Spencer's work, keep on smashing it mate.
I gotta be honest, that scene in the lake was horrifically reckless and you put peoples lives in danger. I know indie filmmaking is a whole different beast but people could’ve died. Cold water like that is extraordinarily dangerous.
2.57 you might be better to skip the expensive camera/glass and put the cash where it counts.. someone on set clever enough to offer a courtesey flag so the monitors can be seen. $10.
6.31 if the director wants centre frame give it to them! Certainly a small off creep is worst of all, talkspace is fine or 'proper odd' which can ba fashionable. To me centre frame has 'power' which my or may not serve the story.
@@spensersakurai sure, as far as optics, field of view, and angle are concerned, that should be obvious. But "scientifically" you're discounting the advantages (or simplifying it as "resolution") of resampling from 6K in post, a process which you lose when you crop. I'm not saying I never do it, because I sure as hell do. Just saying it's really not scientifically identical, and in my opinion (though I too absolutely love a 35mm lens on full-frame), it's a compromise. One made necessary by the expedient nature of a day on set.

I love to see more and more real filmmakers, which make shorts or with Danny even movies! I am a bit tired of "content creator reels filmmakers"!
Many of us are!

That van driving by shot from inside is perfection!
great BTS series. It was very informative. A mini masterclass in filmmaking... thank you

You and Danny Gevirtz are single handedly providing the best filmmaking content on RUclips. Can't wait to see the film!
Super excited to see the finished piece!

Pretty generous of the Avatar guy to step behind the camera and give you a hand 👍
This was very interesting to watch for someone who dreams to have time to do something like this. Can't wait to see the film.
hope to catch you guys around the City sometime making some art

Great breakdowns of shots..Beautiful lighting 💯🎬📸🫡
I love the tube on the Explorer to fake the cop car. So fun!
8 min mark; I really dig this me bounced back light look. 🤘🏻😮💨
I don't think I knew you were based in OKC. I'm in Tulsa! I'm working on my 3rd short film now.

You guys need to teach how to disagree w each other w out fighting.
Guys this looks sensational. Your lighting and pictures look sensational.

You might try some of Roger Deakins's lightings techniques.
did you get any behind the scenes with the sound guy. what mics were used?
Sorry. I don’t have any info on his setup.
Spencer dropping some real stuff. Not these clowns around.
🙏
Thanks for sharing
Can you share your distribution plan for this project? Or what you hope for?
Just wondering if the originally hired DP was Gian Carlo bc of his newly purchased Venice
When the results release🎉
Get that DP a courtesy, please. 😢
I think the days of claiming cameras don’t matter are over. Yes lenses and lighting are key, but each camera has their own look too these days.
looks great!
Gr8 shots guys! Very very buttery sweetness, all over the shots!
Love it!
How can I see it?
Why not stick with the Tokina Vista Primes?
This is so interesting!!!
Your vids are always extremely informative
How did you film the tiny fleas?
Spencer on what scenes did you end up using the Sony A74
Question: couldn’t ND film window instead of adding more int light?
Show us the cropped vs uncropped frames
Hey can someone explain to me why they decide to make the entire room green to balance out the pendant lights?
Go make a film!
Project Spark by Nanlite - en.nanlite.com/events/detail-118
how much did this movie make?
Spenser, if you dont mind me asking, how much did this short film cost? Just to know, how much money should one save.
Hey, how come you weren’t the dp Spencer?
Computer configuration to edit 6k?
Is your short film out yet?
Soon!
Where can I watch the short film
hello do u have behind the scenes shots, am an amature movie maker and i want to be inspired
Why didn’t you just make a whole feature film with that money like Robert Rodriguez. Give Robert 30k and I’m sure he can make a whole movie
Dope. How is cropping in post, using a 35mm on 6K sensor, the same as filming on a 50mm?
6k is only relevant for detail in regards to what Corey was saying. Its not exactly the same but it’s 100 percent usable when your output is going to be 4k either way.
Yeah talking specifically about detail and and framing there. There's going to be some visible bokeh difference on a tighter lens.
Was thinking the same thing? it is soo truee!! lol

imagine having 30k for a short film and this is what you make
35mm and 50mm are not literally the same when u crop it. depth & compressed face alone show's its not 50mm.
compression still exists on the crop. if the camera is in the spot, its all the same. Maybe I should make a video over this...
@@spensersakurai Yes please do. Thanks in advance.

4th!
Cropping in post is "scientifically" identical to changing lenses? Really? Really, though?
Other than resolution, yes. A lens is simply a magnifier. Maybe i should make a video over this haha
