Two polar bears, a mother and her cub, clamber over the sea ice with the pink winter sky glowing behind them. “These are the moments I live for,” says nature photographer Joshua Holko.
High in the Arctic archipelago of Svalbard, Holko is on a mission to document polar bears in the wild. Braving the elements for up to 16 hours a day, he is joined on his quest by cinematographers Abraham Joffe and Dom West of Untitled Film Works. Despite technical issues and frostbite due to the subzero temperatures, the crew persisted in the depths of winter to capture the haunting beauty of this frozen expanse.
In Ghosts of the Arctic, get up close to polar bears in their natural habitat and experience the breathtaking Arctic landscape in stunning detail.

National geographic showing quality video's that give information to people well done and keep going !!!
Thanks for continuing to watch our videos, Nadia!
Shout out to the guy doing an amazing job, capturing a beautiful footage is not an easy job, persistent is the key
Yes, it takes persistence and courage to photograph our wildlife in their natural habitats! Thank you for your encouraging words.
What about the person who filmed the photographer :
The snow is very fitting considering there are only 6 days until Christmas!
Thank you, Natgeo. It’s beautiful shots
This is beautifully shot, need more shorts like this Nat Geo. Also be a dream to be able to have a to film in epic locations like this for our channel.

Raising awarness is more important than ever before. Job well done, Natgeo!
Majestic place. Majestic creatures.
What an incredible job these guys have, from filming to photographing!
Amazing shots !!!
Your Chanel made very nice and informative video mostly about these Arctic nature thanks for these
I feel so much awe for the photographers at NG. Such compassion. Working there is like reaching the highest point on the career. They spend days and weeks in freezing conditions, searing heat and humid jungles with all the problems they cause for the equipment. After all this they get a few minutes of their material on television. And still they go on, driven by their passion.
Bravo!
We have a deep respect for all our photographers too. Without them, we would not be able to witness the beautiful stories on our channel.
respect to you boss..........its a privilege to watch this footage
This was so beautiful!
Just spectacular 👍
Amazing!!

I'm 3rd year Environmental Studies major @WilfridLaurierUniversity hoping to one day follow Joshua's footsteps. National Geographic is my inspirational platform to explore environmental awareness and I hope so too to see more content from your photographers and videographers!
Thank you!

To photograph the polar bear, you must be the polar bear...

Iam watching this in 2019 & meditating
Happy to see
Great video thnx !
Majestic
It's like a picture of the earth million years ago. The freezing and cooling years
Very beautiful
If a video is renderd in 21:9 ratio, it would really help if you upload it in the same ratio
How absolutely beautiful this is to see!!
The scenery is truly breathtaking! Thanks for joining our photographer on his mission, Kat!
Hats of to to the photographers😀😀
Excellent awesome very good
Feels like heaven 🌎
Does anyone know the name of the Melodies played at the background?
Perfect, know Im ready to photograph some bears.
Always love National Geographic (short) film's. Did however laugh out loud when Joshua said: "in order to connect with my subjects, I need to fully emerge myself" - wears full black on black while laying in the snow. Hahahaha
Haha, that is a bit ironic! Thanks so much for watching!
Can you blame him, though? Black absorbs light and heat, and you're going to want some warmth in those temps.
Really nice, I wish i could be there to see them polar bears!
Nephi Leonardo that really would be awesome 😊
if they still exist...
I have met polar bears OwO
But it was only in zoo.. the only zoo in finland that has polar bears.. there was little polar bear playing in water with car wheel thing :3
So cute!!!
Dat Potatoes in the wild would be so cool though
Danielle Lucas
Yep.. yep
What is beyond 90 degrees north?
It gave me goosebumps
I've known most of his tips before, it's just that I've never put them to use!!! Btw, this is a great video!
Well, it's never too late to put these tips to use! We hope our videos inform and inspire you in your own adventures, Ben!
How did he use the camera with his gloves on?
Where is this? Svalbard? Canada? Amazing photography. I assume you have someone with protection if needed?
I feeling the extreme cold only watching this video
Went there last May, an absolutely stunning place. Seeing wild polar bears isn't as difficult as it's made out to be here though, you just need patience. You can see deer without even leaving the comfort of Longyearbyen, since they're not afraid of people.
Polar bears are one of my favorite animals!
omg what a bravery shots
no bravery needed, he 's got a gun
Canon 1dx Mark ii = 5500 dollars
Canon 800mm f/5.6 = 12,000 dollars
Having Nat Geo hand you all that equipment and paying you to go do what you love = priceless!
Those bears are warriors
like it.....from the netherlands
this begs the question: who needs more photos of polar bears? if you have seen 10 good ones, you've seen them all
NaGeo plz upload in 4k, too! :)
Thanks for the suggestion! We'll try to create more immersive videos on our channel.
I am curious about how your DJI drone's Lipo battery can operate at that extreme cold for those aerial videos. Unless you use a nitro/gasoline power micro helicopter, I can't think of how you can fly a drone like that.
Video completed like superfast
Polar bears are so cute I want to own a zoo just for one.
maravilhoso
Amo a los osos polares, son unos magníficos animales, mi preferido!
Beautiful from Bangladesh
It will be awesome if NatGeo channel start to release video in 4K
Thanks for the feedback, Adam! We're working to create some really cool, immersive pieces.
I love the polar bears ♥️

A machine that makes ice and produce coldness can stop the glaciers from melting and make them bigger.

Healthy . . . Stay Frosty All .
❤️
Anyone else caught a Skyrim vibe there in the intro?
YA. I FEEL IT.
To be honest I don't contribute much towards conservation. I wish I could but sometimes getting bogged with day to day living can make me forget about other important issues such as this. Thank you so much to those who make a career to specialise in this area and to those who dont but still make the effort to contribute!
