Bumped into Joe unexpectedly at a Sarries v Quins game a few years ago at Wembley. Had a chat with him whilst he was getting some sweets for his eldest son... have been a huge fan of his ever since... what a true gentleman & one of the nicest players I have the pleasure in meeting. I walked away with the feeling that he was more honoured to meet me than the other way round!
A really powerful episode, two huge, powerful men, who can never ever be called weak or wimpy. Having had similar darkness in the last couple of years, and thoughts and attempts, the more this public discourse by public figures goes on the better, this is really important, Well done Hask and Joe.
Fellas, this was truly fantastic. A rollercoaster of lol banter and deep conversation. Riveting stuff. You are both so watchable- thanks for sharing. We need this.
I love this video and the awareness of mental health you're raising. It's very hard to open up and not feel stupid so I respect this chat a lot. We must now look at helping people who talk, being there for them good and bad days, trying to make bad days a little more manageable etc that's when you really open up, when you know someone is genuinely interested in helping you. Let's not forget the after support, it's equally important.
Im a proper sports fan and for a while i didnt get Hask at all. All the social media and videos etc. Then he destroyed Australia 3 test to zero and suddenly i got him and now find him an incredibly engaging character who has genuine credibility . Good man Hask
Two modern day “icons” in the sport.... it’s great to see you talking about such a personal thing. Be it the serious points, or putting the lad laughs in places. If the video helps one person it’s worth it! 👍🏻
That was mental but very important! This will have a profoundly positive effect on many people when they watch and listen to elite athletes talk about mental health challenges. Excellent!
Dear Joe, hopefully you see this, NOTHING but love for you bro, nothing but love, life is tough and what you did was what it was, love yourself and understand we are here for a limited time, stay happy, do whatever you can to stay happy... Best wishes, (huge All Blacks and Joe Marler fan) Dr Ali
Great to hear from both of you! It has been an awful year for many and this is needed now more so than ever! The more open we can be the less people will feel alone
James and Joe, thank you for doing this. You are helping a lot of people. 6 months ago i had literally made the rope to end it all. Therapy and drugs and my life has changed. I never truly understood the importance of talking about how we are feeling. It was so great to see James, a pure lads lad genuinely concerned and wanting to develop so that he could understand adn notice when other people are in pain. Thank you for this lads for broadcasting the message. Love ya. Edit: Actually this stuff is funny as hell. Had me cracking when the dexter deer story got going. Brilliant.
I remember dancing with Haskell at tomorrowland and asking myself why isnt he with the team.... To date the strongest fucking person Ive seen on a dancefloor. He literally had two other people on top of his shoulders. Absolute legend. Ever since then hes been on my radar and Im a fan. Purebred beast with a great personal side.
Fair play Joe. I wish you the best, and I hope that time, patience, honesty and love win through in the end. Under-lying issues that take a long time to reveal themselves, may require some time to 're-balance'. Least is most Joe. Don't try too hard, just let love be the boss. You are a good man, with a big-heart. It's the little things that 'kill'. Deal with the little things, and the bigger issues will look after themseves most often than not. Take care big man.
Truthfully, the interview changes around 2.09. James is better when he's not searching the clipboard, but searching himself. Cheers dudes. Best thing i've learned from crashing, is that you can only go upward. And if we're willing to give advice and love to others to not feel that it is personal, then too the same applies to you.
Haskell is soo not an interviewer thats what makes his a great interviewer. Because he is talking honestly to a mate anout some dark stuff. Well done mate
Re: the suicide issues, someone said once and I think it's a good one is....."Trouble is, people don't realise things always get better" and to be fair they always do so it's a good one to remember
it is such a shame that Jo felt he didn't know who to go and talk to and share his problems with. And therein lays the problem with mental health issues, especially among men. Despite all the talk, it is STILL not something people feel ok to talk about and can easily find support on. But there again, if he couldn'y confide in his wife/mates, it wouldn't really have mattered what support was available - you can lead a horse to water... Wish him the very best
after watching a couple of these joe interviews and videos, and seeing the link for heaps more, most realised that he is doing the rounds promoting his book
A bit late to the party but as I’m half way through the book I thought I’d watch some more pods as well. Fantastic show and well played for championing men’s mental health. Hopefully you will be sporting a 👨🏻👈 in Movember. Great work boys 👏🏻
Super interesting and good to hear people opening up. Armchair psychologist moment.. but worth reading about 'Mask Smile Syndrome', 'False Positivity' and consequently 'Emotional Leakage'. Ironically suppressing feelings by trying to be positive and happy causes those negative feelings to come back two-fold. Why does it happen? Chronic highlights culture through social media and TV causes you to think "They're happy, why aren't I?" - Ironically they aren't. Jim Carrey & Robin Williams - both their childhoods were based around entertaining their parents by forcing themselves to be happy to make their parents happy. Nice sentiment but they both have struggled unequivocally.
@@kenrehill8775 Yeah, I did the forced positivity thing and it wasn't good. So you have to pick your poison.. have the highs with inevitable uncontrollable lows and deal with the impact on your family or stop trying so hard to be happy/positive and have gentler lows.
Thanks for this episode James and Joe. Puts a few mental issues I am dealing with in perspective. There is a TedEx podcast about male suicide worth checking oyt
Deer Hunter meets First Blood meets Fatal Attraction. Welcome to another cosy night of chat 'n' gags with J.A.W. Look out Jonathon Woss - the Hask is eyeing up your prime spot! 👍
Disagree most fans want a vanilla player Hask. We love the characters, we want more of them, in order to relate. leave the vanilla to other more mundane sports :)

Props to Marler for his honesty. Great episode
See what you did there 🤣
No pun intended? Haha
Listened to this walking my dog ended up doing an extra few miles just to keep listening! Top men setting the standard! A very REAL chat cheers both!
Seeing a beast like Joe open up gives so much strength and confidence to others to open up and talk about how they are feeling. Great work!! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Great podcast. Great subject but also very cool to see two mates having a laugh. Good to see An open conversation about mental health

I was on Joe's podcast a while back. Top bloke. His book's pretty good too!
Absolutely loved that episode, was so interesting to hear your story.
What a fantastic podcast. A great balance of banter and serious discussion on a difficult subject. Kudos to both of you.
Great to hear from both of you! It has been an awful year for many and this is needed now more so than ever! The more open we can be the less people will feel alone
I watched big boys don't cry yesterday absolute class and Joe's honesty about his struggles will help a lot of people.....
Couple of top men. Rugby needs character like you two

Think this is the nicest we'll ever see these two be to each other. Great pod lads.
Legends both of you. This is something that needs to be out there. Thank you
One of the best podcasts I've ever watched. Hats off fellas.

Thank you James and Joe. Makes people think they are not alone and not soft when they experience the things Joe has mentioned. It’s helped me smile.
I’m 15 minutes in and already crying with laughter! Both incredible people and players, and I think this is probably my favourite episode yet!

Wonder if one of the trigger questions was "How do you feel when someone squirts water in your face?" .
What a brilliant interview, serious and funny at the same time!
These two are awesome to watch and listen to
Legends ❤
Excellent episode. Loved the way it was so light hearted but delivered some really honest and important messages. Thank you Joe and James. Brilliant

Love this. Men need to do this more often
Wonderful upload, thank you for sharing! Stay healthy and safe! 👍😊🍓
Well done lads. Thank you.
That Faz impression was spot on 👌👌
The idea of Andy being Big Faz and Owen being Little Faz has killed me
Never heard of either of these guys but what a great podcast.
Two international class rugby players from England - big respect for their playing days and what they've done with this Ep.
So much respect for you both ❤️🤍 enough said!
Cheers for opening up Joe.
Great! Love you two together!
Brilliant. Hope Joe comes out of England retirement soon.
He’s not retired.

Superb Hask. Keep up the good work.!!👍
Why does Joe Marler give me tom hardy vibez? awesome mate
Thanks for this episode James and Joe. Puts a few mental issues I am dealing with in perspective. There is a TedEx podcast about male suicide worth checking oyt
James that was rumour started by Terry Wogan back in the Seventies ( you can put Animals in car if you run over them). AC
Best one yet! Top interview!
Deer Hunter meets First Blood meets Fatal Attraction. Welcome to another cosy night of chat 'n' gags with J.A.W. Look out Jonathon Woss - the Hask is eyeing up your prime spot! 👍

I can't believe Graham Rowntree had his ears sculpted & moulded to resemble Hasks feet...& it only cost him £40...
Read both books from both. Definte worth reading for everbody👍
Fantastic topic👏🏼

Great podcast 👌

Ok. I'm listening to quite an interview and then " I'm circumcised if you're asking". Bloody hell.
Great show loved it👍, cant wait till he's back on and there just ripping each other chewing the fat, they should do a podcast together
Great podcast.
fuckkkkk imagine rage-consumed unstoppable Joe Marler smashing your house up
class podcast lads
great podcast
Help a Saffa out here, lads. 'Big boys don't cry' where can I download it? Not paying Sky for shait
And we still have the likes of Jess Philips laughing at male suicide yet keeping they’re jobs .
You can tell how good friends they are when Haskell goes “ Stress is really good for pregnant women” 😂
Class
Joe the kind of kid at school to break all your pencils and get you to apologise for making him mad.
way way way more to it than encouraging men to talk about it
that was hilarious
Gotta love Hask's hussle since retiring...
I really do believe dogs 🐕 can help with depression.
