Slim...one of your best video's ever. Your ability to see beyond yourself in so many area's. I feel like you had a shift in your thinking after the hitchhiker's tales of day's gone by. Really gives you something to ponder on, right? Just so you know, Slim, you are not alone out there. God is looking out after you. Know this & feel the comfort. Safe and extraordinary travels, my friend.

Slim, I've tent camped for many years, in all kinds of weather, moose with babies sauntering through our campsite in the wee hours, skunk heading for the open door of the tent, etc. Ya just gotta roll with the punches. I love your videos and waiting for new adventures, amazing narratives and beautiful scenery.

The couple who rolled and got killed in New Mexico a couple weeks ago were neighbors of a family member. Their truck and fifth wheel lost control. Their little chihuahua survived. They were from MN. The red rainbow was great! I've never heard of such a thing. Your stuff is really worth watching. Thank you.

I like the sentiment in your story. I have an aliner for this exact reason. I have had a roll over in front of me, and been forced off the road when towing a caravan because normal traffic would not let me back into traffic after an overtaking lane. I think it's important that we don't become complacent when travelling. Shit happens, and you never know when and where. But one thing is for sure. It's probably going to happen quickly. Keep up the great videos!

10 out of 10! My sister moved to Wyoming from here in WNY. She sent me pictures of the actual wagon wheel ruts in the hills and meadows there. Also, pictures of messages carved in the rocks of families making their way west for those who would follow. Chilling to see. Really fascinating. Seems there should be a better word for what it took to go out into nothing to find a life. That was beyond courage and bravery.

  • @jsking306
    @jsking306 5 лет назад +3

Your message in this video is right on point. Some of the most dangerous cross-country driving I've done has been with just a couple inches of snow, on top of ice with strong crosswinds. It does not require 20 inches of snow to create a scary situation. Another excellent video.

Having just watched your video I felt I should tell you how much I appreciate your thoughtful dissertation of what happened and your meet with the American Indian and his reflections on the "white men" who changed his predecessors world. I grew up in Scandinavia and thru fate - or whatever..:) - after a few changes of direction in my life I spent a number of years in the 70's on the road trucking as an Owner Operator. What you described in regards to high winds is something every trucker fears - especially when running empty with a box of some kind. I am one of the lucky ones, despite going sideways down the road, looking at my trailer pushing me down the road, I always managed to "pick it up" and get straight again and never had an accident.
Like you I had wonderful experiences with people while trucking the US and Canada.
If nothing else, living and experiencing other countries and cultures teaches you that we - no matter where we come from and what color of our skin - are all very much alike and have much to offer each other.
Keep on trucking and doing your videos - you are very much appreciated and you bring back a lot of happy experiences and memories..:)

Hi Slim! In fact, I only found your Your Tube videos with the Stranded in a Snowstorm video you referenced. It brought back some "fun" (looking back on them) memories of my own in my blue Ford pickup named Francine. She and I saw pretty much everything east of the Mississippi together, but then when I went west, I fell in love with the high deserts of New Mexico and never went any farther. Francine had 298,000 miles on the original engine (one new transmission) before she finally was given up for dead. I never towed anything behind me -- just slept in the topper that I had custom outfitted with a tiny RV air conditioner for the worst of the low-desert explorations. Man, I miss that truck, those times. Whole 'nother adventure I'm on now.

I really enjoy all your videos and find it hard to believe that folks find anything in them to be angry about. I watched your foul weather video multiple times and used it as a touchstone in my mind as I navigated a terrible snowstorm in Arizona. I was stunned to see how fast people are willing to drive in very dangerous conditions. My teardrop trailer had about 12 inches of ice built up on the front. Later I learned of a couple of fatalities resulting from the driving conditions during that storm. Thank you for the thoughtful and creative videos. You are my favorite RUclips creator.

  • @thizizliz

What I get from this is that we must use good sense and develop our critical thinking skills. Making decisions on when it is safe to travel is specific to conditions, experience, the sort of rig you have and so much more. It is better to lose some time than to lose your rig - or worse! Hey, I love the way the hitchhiker paid for his ride! Just what you needed. I see you applying decision making skills all the time and sharing how you chose to do things, then the results: what succeeded & what failed. Excellent opportunities for people to learn & apply to their own situation.

You can't please everyone..Your videos are always drama free and well done..I always enjoy them..I have had out of 9 RV's in my life only 2 towables...one huge 35' Toy hauler that I pulled with my Infiniti QX56 suv, like an Armada based on a Nissan Titan truck, which I actually have now..So it was rated for 8900 lbs..well this toy hauler was pretty heavy and the few times I did tow it I was praying the whole time...I hated it!! Then I bought and flipped a 1995 Wilderness 25' travel trailer and that smaller one behind that large suv towed like a dream..so the larger ones just are a lot more worry to me anyway..I'm sure a huge truck would have helped but I learned then that I would always stick with a motorized RV whether a class A, my preference over the years or a class B van, the one I want to get now after 7 class A's and always having to worry about where I can go or where I can fit before I go there! With a van or any smaller unit it sure does feel good as you know, to be able to go many more places with less worry!!! Safe travels to you!!

Yours may be the best RV life content on the internet.
Your easy to listen to voice and gift for story telling make for some very compelling narration. You have a talent for editing (The overturned trailer shot projected onto your a-frame window was outstanding. It really gave such a strong impression of gazing out a window, but only seeing what was still fresh in your mind's eye. loved it.)
Your passion for nature, your respect for others, your desire for your content to create a positive reaction and a learning experience for your audience , these all contribute to how rewarding it is for myself as a viewer to experience your videos.
If there was ever going to be a mainstream reality channel about life on the road, I could easily see your channel being the one. Discovery channel, are you listening?

As others have said, you are a great story teller. Keep on doing it and just disregards the bad vibes.
The internet makes it easy to hide behind the screen and spew out hate and bad vibes. If the same people where next to you i bet they would never have said a word
I might not like every video you make, but i also see it from your/others side, there must be something for everyone. I like the travel videos as it shows me a side of america that i would not otherwise know. and even my mood can dictate what i like, at the morning it might be how yuo upgrade the aliner, 2 hours later it can be something else
but what matters most is that the video reflects that you like what you do and that they do

Hey slim, not to outdo you.... 2 weeks ago i was on my way south in the jeep pulling the tear drop trailer i had just built. I noticed a tire issue and stopped to change it. Well the trailer shifted on the rear stands and fell and pinned my left hand between the leaf spring and wheel that was laying on the ground. We ve all heard about the adrenalin rush and people lift thousand pound things off of someone. Well BS i tried but no way. I called for help for awhile and a guy heard me and went and got a fork lift to free me. An ambulance ride , hospital, insurance, and my dog put into the pound while i was in the hospital. A friend flew down to drive me and the rig back to nova scotia. Im now sitting looking outside at snow drifts with my left arm in a cast. BUT I AM HERE TO LOOK. I really thought i would die there . I thought about cutting my hand off but figured i would faint during the operation. The cell phone was back in the truck. Will try again next fall. And hopefully with a mate.

I like to see how you brave the cold and give tips and tricks. I am encouraged to think of my camper as an all season enjoyment instead of just being for spring and fall. I know you are way more acclimated to snowy conditions but then that’s why I watch, to learn about new places in more than one or two seasons. Let the critics go butt a stump! 🙋🏻‍♀️🙂⛺️

My favorite State. I travel in a Chevy Class B.I know there is no perfect choice for everyone but for me, I don't want any set up and take down, I want to get in and out of gas stations with ease, I do not like towing and I like to be able to park any where. At my point in life, I don't have to drive in questionable weather. If I don't feel comfortable I just stay where I am. I do understand people wanting more room and luxury but it's not for me. As I see the big rigs I say, better you than me. Sincerely hope none of this sounds negative. Once again, I can't believe we have never met in a camping area. Please keep up the good work and take care.

Thank you for telling your story! The big 5th wheel on its' side is sad and scary. I think you did a great job getting your message across. I so enjoyed hearing the story about the Native American and the Crazy Woman Creek. Thank you for all your hard work putting this together!

I just had to post again. I find it amusing that a channel like yours get any negatives (thumb down that is). These are just Trolls. Trolls live under bridges and don’t get out much and hopefully don’t go camping. Don’t worry about them Slim. Keep up the great work. We all enjoy it very much.

Great safety advice. I had planned to be in Southern AZ by now but with Winter storm after Winter storm marching across the country I’m waiting it out at my home in Southern OH. I have a 17ft Casita I bought used a year ago and don’t have a lot of towing experience yet. I don’t care to get it driving through Winter storms. I would never forgive myself if I created a situation where someone else were to get injured. Loved the red rainbow. Have never seen one before. Wonderful hearing about your hitchhiker. Sometimes people are put with us for a reason. Safe travels Slim. Another great video!

90% of those you find asking for a ride on the Western regions of 70, 80 and 90 are the real deal.
The next time you are in Warm Springs, OR, hang out for a day or two in the Casino parking lot and learn about how things really were and are today.
If you come to Bend, Oregon again let me know. I’ll buy coffee.

Thats a concern often of mine esp since now we have a larger camper. We took it from Kansas City area to Walden Colorado and the wind crossing Kansas was intense. We decided we would be staying closer to home while camping. It was exhausting trying to get there...because our nerves were shot! I miss my old pop out and our little A frame. I know as my kids get older, we will revert back to the smaller camper option and in our 50s we will be hitting the open road again. Safe travels slim. I just love your videos.

Slim we enjoy your travels, are you planning any videos of Canada outside of Alberta? I remember travelling with my grandpa when I was a kid to places like Lake Athabasca and Yellowknife which is certainly the last outpost on earth to a 12 year old kid. I was born and raised in Utah but mom was from Alberta and I have lots of relatives in AB and BC. My memories of Canada are good ones.

Great vid as always Slim! I live in Montana, a state that is well known for having high winds. I've even seen tractor trailers blown over into a ditch. If you get the right kinds of conditions, especially in a natural funnel like the valley I happen to live in, the wind can be verrrrry powerful. Add to that sides that are as big as a barn door and you get a sail-like effect of the wind wanting to push you to the side. I drove my RV from Illinois to here last summer and even in not very windy conditions it can be sometimes dicey. I wouldn't want to drive it in real high winds, that's for sure!
BTW, your editing is top notch and the adventures in your a-frame have made me want to get something similar in size for when I decide to travel alone. Great stuff.

I surmise this Living "Spirit" was there to appease your unsettled one. We can all gain/learn so much from random "Strangers" if we stop, pause, listen & connect with them. This was what many describe as Karma, repaying itself for previous generosity Slim.
