it is a special multiplication...for eg: you are at a station standing on the platform and train just passed you...while passing all the points of the train at some point of time were directly perpendicular to you. so multiplication will occur only of that points which were perpendicular to you and after the train is gone there is nothing in front of you so no multiplication will occur. thus in convolution the multiplication occurs only till a signal pass other signal and only for those points which are in front of each other...
