    That was the first time we ever heard anything from Ory. We used to hear from AND SEE Earl all the time but then Earl vanished without a trace - almost like Richard Dawson, except Earl didn't wind up with his own show.

      I thought of "pinched hit" like in baseball (yeah, I know, technically it's just "pinch hit") . Anyway, I bet if the champ had called on a macho sports dude like Chuck, he would've given the same suggestion! ;-)

    H/H match update for episode 1365 and End-of-Week Recap:
    ...
    ~~~Today's action:
    Yesterday was filled with drama. The main game ended in a 6-6 tie, but the first tie-breaker ended in a 0-0 tie! In the second tie-breaker, the challenger scored 6 matches before time ran out. So today we start with the champion's second tie-breaker question. He needs to match all six celebs (a high hurdle this week) in order to stay in the game.
    Now that I've heard the question, I think it's just possible that everyone might say "teddy bear," but there are several other good answers too. The drama continues!
    Well, the champion gives my answer. I still think it's a long shot that today's panel will be in agreement. I especially worry about Joe who has been giving a lot of off-beat answers this week... Yikes! As predicted, Joe answered "roller skates." Good grief. I was thinking blankie, pacifier, bottle, even diaper, but roller skates? (Wow, I typed that before seeing the panel's answers. There was indeed a pacifier and Fannie had written diaper! Well, I guess that lets Joe off the hook a little bit.
    Our outgoing champ had won one game and $600, but he still got to give Fannie a very dramatic goodbye kiss! (She's such a good sport to play along!) And I believe this is the first time a defeated champion walked off stage rather than being spun off.
    *Today's audience match question: "Pinched________"*
    (My thoughts: Nerve, Hit, Pennies)
    The celebs: Charles (Nerve), Dick (Tushie), Fannie (Looked on their face)
    The choice: Nerve
    The answers: Pennies, Buns, Nerve
    A fine start for our new champion.
    It's not just the prior champ who had a little crush on Fannie. The wheel is fixated on her this week too! This is the third time she's been chosen this week (and we've only had 4 questions!). No double sadly.
    Stats: Fannie's two most recent attempts were both in episode 1362 (one match that day). She's matched 7 of her last 16 attempts (43.8%). Overall, she has matched 19 of 41 total H/H questions (46.3%)
    *Today's H/H question: "Cloak_______"*
    (This sounds easy to me. Gosh, I hope I just didn't jinx it. But how could I jinx something that already happened 46 years ago?! Anyway, Cloak and Dagger.)
    Fannie seems to decide quickly. She begins writing immediately, but it looks like she fills out two cards? When the camera cuts back to her, she files a card. Ding. Our new champ is ready with the predicted answer. The audience reaction is a solid 10.
    Fannie looks negative and begins alluding to a cloak room, but... it's a fake-out: "& Dagger"
    Fannie scores her 20th H/H match today.
    (And slides above Betty on the leader board.)
    ~~~The Week that Was:
    Well, another non-awful week. I enjoyed the Christmas skit, and we had a couple of good champions. I was glad to see Fannie get 3 H/H questions! Dick sort of seems alright in that fifth chair. Joe didn't impress me much as a panelist. Carol was perfectly adequate, but we won't see her again, so it hardly matters.
    For the H/H, Monday gave us an audience match fail, and we ran out of time on Wednesday. But we had 2 questions on Tuesday, and one each on Thursday and Friday (I'm mentally putting quotes around the days of the week because I realize that the episodes are out-of-sync with the calendar, but "Monday" stands for the first episode of a panel week, and "Tuesday" for the second, etc.).
    So, it was a pretty miserly Christmas week in the H/H department with only four questions and two matches. (Ho, ho, ho!) - Our tally for this week: Fannie 2/3, Brett 0/1
    Reviewing our non-regular panelists:
    *Fannie* still has 6 weeks left. Matching 2 of 3 questions this week brought her overall average up to 47.6% (20 matches in 42 attempts).
    *Dick* Martin has 4 weeks to go. He's been chosen for the H/H 2 times in past weeks, but hasn't yet scored his first match.
    *Joe* Santos has a second and final week coming up 1396-1400. Maybe the wheel will chose him next time?
    Finally, *Carol* Jones finished her first and only week on Match Game '7x, never having a shot at a H/H question.
    ~~~Looking ahead, next week our steadfast Brett & Charles will be joined by:
    ----- Semi-regular *Betty White* who will be back after two weeks off for her 73rd week (of 75 total). She'll have a chance to regain the lead she lost today over Fannie (Betty stands at 46.9% - 23 matches in 49 attempts).
    ----- *David Doyle* who will return for his 7th week (of 8 total). David last appeared in 1331-1335, and his final week is coming in 1416-1420. David has never been selected for a H/H question. Will the wheel chose him in his final 10 shows?
    ----- *Connie Stevens* will return for her 2nd week (of 3 total). She made her debut way back in 1101-1105, and her final week will be 1441-1445. She too has never played a H/H.
    ----- Last but not least, we have *Jack Jones* who will join the panel (in the fifth seat!) for his first of only two weeks (the second being 1426-1430, also in seat #5).
    It almost feels like a "normal" week, panel-wise, with only one newbie (why in the fifth seat?). I guess David works well in #1 and they didn't want to move him. I hardly remember Connie (given it's been 240 episodes which is about 48 weeks), but at least it won't occasion another increasingly awkward spritz-and-kiss moment. Best of all: No one-and-done celebs next week!
    ~~~Here's our updated leader board showing the 11 celebs with at least 3 H/H matches, ranked by accuracy:
    (An asterisk before a celebrity's name signifies that she or he has "retired" from the show and their H/H stats are now complete.)
    (For tied scores, I consider the one with the greater number of matches to be higher; if the matches are equal, the celeb who first achieved that score goes on top.)
    Orson Bean - 100% (4 matches in 4 attempts).
    (*)Jo Anne Worley - 75% (3 matches in 4 attempts).
    Joyce Bulifant - 66.7% (4 matches in 6 attempts).
    Gary Burghoff - 55.6% (5 matches in 9 attempts).
    Charles - 50.0% (43 matches in 86 attempts).
    Fannie - 47.6% (20 matches in 42 attempts).
    Betty - 46.9% (23 matches in 49 attempts).
    (*)Jo Ann Pflug - 44.4% (8 matches in 18 attempts).
    Brett - 43.2% (41 matches in 95 attempts).
    (*)Richard - 42.5% (373 matches in 878 attempts).
    Bert Convy - 33.3% (5 matches in 15 attempts).
    *These stats include every head-to-head match from episode 1 through 1365, excluding the missing/damaged/unavailable episodes: 31, 32, 33, 311, 312, 313, 324, 325, 645, 910, 1024, 1025, 1026, 1027, 1028, 1029, and 1030. (Note: episode 849 was never produced.) These stats do, however, include the H/H results of missing episode 968 as those results were revealed in episode 969. There was no H/H in missing episode 1035, as we learn in 1036. These stats do, however, include results of episodes 1309 through 1317, found on channels other than this one.

    I think Fannie Flagg (real name Patricia Neal) is still alive, and the last time I saw her - on a TV interview show - she hadn"t aged much at all. I am totally enamored of that beautiful, intelligent, award-winning woman !! WHY, oh why does she have to be gay?
