I like the extreme styling. They've done what other manufacturers have been afraid to do in styling. I think a lot of hot hatches look too plain, just like their standard counterpart. Also, made in the UK.

Honda, please put this engine in an updated S2000.

That's exactly what Honda is going to do.
The upcoming S2000 will have the Type R engine with around 400 hp, unfortunately it will have AWD and will be a coupe instead of a cabriolet. We can assume that it's gonna be pretty heavy.
"Not as track focused as the Renult Megan..."?? hahaha is that a joke? this car was purely designed to smash the FWD Record time at the Nurburgring.
GreenbeaN06985 Paul was alluding to the fact that the Renault comes with special sticky tyres, a roll cage and no creature comforts. The Type R is less hardcore than the Renault, despite being faster.
Auto Trader Megane wasn't factory car. Only a few number of those

Now we are talking! that's what you call a hot hatch! excellent. Sporty inside and out.Grips the road like I have never seen.Going to get my Honda Type R very soon.Can't wait to bump into a Ford RS lol ;)

+MrLewisbate again they arent made to be driven like the old NA engines,, the Old NA engines dont meet EU laws.....who wants to change a turbo when it blows..........NA all the way

Just curious, what would the equivalent cost in USD for this car?
Would rather have the new Focus RS.
Ford RS w/ AWD is going to make this look like a childrens toy on the track.
+Tab Tiurf look up autotraders 10 car comparison they just put up. Civic R has too much torque and understear. The RS beats it by a few seconds on the lap time. AWD would allow the R to use all of its 300hp effectively but civic won't make the jump for some reason. Maybe weight idk.

SI RICKO Unfortunately not, Ricko. Look up the follow up video Auto Trader did. RS beats the Type R lap times by full seconds whether it's on dry track or in the wet.

VW R32 take note; this is what a hyper hatch is supposed to look like! This would also look great as a tourer. Do you know if Honda has any plans to do an estate version to go up against Seat's and VW's Golf hyper estates?

Think it looks great, but im really interested in what its factory turbo size is.. i mean lagging all the way up to 4k is usually the size of a large turbo. Seems like honda really wanted to push the limits. But i think thats awesome, even though im not too much of a honda fan... i love the fact that they made a turbo civic.

I really want this vehicle to be sold in Canada. I need a new vehicle. I miss my Prelude, Honda currently doesn't make anything that suits my wants, the Evolution X is great but I want another Honda.

when you got hi-tech car that looks hi-tech as Type-r look then you expect 4x4 and dual clutch transmission! Over 300ks just on front wheels is not smart and manual transmission on hard core street racer is just not enough.....

If it's anything like the turbod k series engines of past its going to be high
+gecko most tuners I've spoken to say the block will handle behind 500 bhp and around 500 lb ft. I've seen 380 and 420lb ft with bolt one and a stage 2 map with no problems

T C - just read about some engine builders who have a lot of history building engines especially the K20. They quote good for 1000 with block work and new rods etc 🤪
Too bad its front wheel drive. Im not too keen on just the front wheels pulling the whole thing along the road. Feeding the 300+ horse power into the front steering wheels is just not right especially when you think about accelerating whilst turning. Any car above the 300bhp class should be at least all wheel drive. Rear wheel drive is preferred though.

Ricardo Carvalho agreed..! I like the earlier civic type R's. But as they say "beauty is in the eye of the beholder." I hate people who spew their opinions as fact. If you like it fair enough, I'm not going to say your wrong :)

2 liters is the lower limit of anything, especially if you want 300 hp out of it.

it's slower than the Cupra 280.. which is surprising to say the least.

Static Pupsik The short answer is it's not, this Type R is a European spec which will not be sold in the US, however Honda is planning a new Type R based on the Civic 2016 Concept shown at the New York Auto Show, which will have a different spec, and different chassis, and is due to arrive at the end of next year…

Rumor now is that the Type R engine will be detuned for the U.S. version. Sad!

Taskmaster Snow Yang It's a five-door hatch in the UK. The 2016 American version will probably be a coupe, but nothing has been confirmed yet.

Suddenly there's a crop of HiPer 300 HP compacts...Audi S3, VW Golf R, BMW i235 x-drive...most also have AWD..except the Type R which I heard isn't coming to North America. Which is ok since I think the back end is UGLY. Looks like a Prius. :) Deal breaker for me. Rest of the car...well done.
Hmm a "type R'' that only goes to 7k? Bummer. It's a cool car but I'm almost positive if I drove an RS and this car I'd choose an RS.

urgandma Im not on youtube to type a fully fledged grammatical piece of text. I don't have the time to piss around with being petty. Yeah an OEM civic may look similar but the Type R does not. Its a ludicrous statement to say it looks like one. Just because the body shell is similar. Styling and lights are miles different.

HANDS DOWN SEXIEST EXTERIOR EVER...BEST, HANDLING/ INTERIOR I HAVE EVVVEEERRRRRRRRRRRR SEEN FROM HONDA YET !!!!!!!!!!! Rear lights should've been lower to full that bump void but I'm not complaining, LOVE LOVE LOVE this car. Rear double spoiler blindspot easily fixed with rear facing licenceplate style dashcam. THANK YOU HONDA. (now fix those ugly 2016-18's, lol) Just an opinion

Dam it Honda, you missed again!! Great performances but bad aesthetics, again!! Too much visual "bells and whistles"! You never got it right after the sixth generation Civic. Take a look at Audi, BMW, Alfa Romeo, not to speak about other really great looking italian cars, almost always getting it right on each of their models. Take a look at your own Accord, Legend and Prelude versions, beautiful each one at their epoch, also the S2000, pretty good looking cars, some more aggressive looking ones than others, some with strong but well balanced lines... This one looks it came out from a bad sci-fi manga drawn by a rookie who wants to exaggerate. On the other hand, the interiors seem quite interesting, well suited for an aggressive sports car, while the exterior has some interesting details but the overall result it's not there yet, by far... Yes, it should look aggressive, "exaggerated", but not too much, with refinement and balance... I understand japanese design has it's own "soul", but this is just too much... Of course, this is just my opinion... ;)

Cina not since auto transmissions on some cars are now outperforming manuals lol. If you arnt taking your car to the track then having a manual isnt really needed for alot of people which is why manuals are becoming less and less popular.

***** Hi there. Naturally, it's set up to be pretty firm but Paul, our Senior Road Tester ,insists that it's pliant enough to live with every day.
With R-button of it's almost as comfortable as an X3 with sports suspension.
