Yaaahhhhh!! too late! I've spent most of the weekend tearing my hair out trying to make selections with the pen tool and here it is in 10 minutes the simple and easy way to achieve pretty good results. Dont ever stop doing these tutorials Richard.

Now if you showed me that 15 years ago I could be a pen tool master by now ---- maybe a 19.896% master 😂

Hi Richard, I'd call myself an intermediate in AF (on a good day) and I stumbled on this method by accident when a beginner. I still use this method as well as the pro method of handles, depending on the complexity of the trace. I also discovered by accident that when using the pen tool you can access the node tool by holding down CTRL if you wish to tweak a trace on the fly which I find useful. Also, a mention that while in node mode (or pen mode with CTRL), holding down the CTRL key and clicking on the active trace line you can alter the curve of the line by sliding the cursor along the line and moving it in and out. I find that gives very fine control over the line shape and sometimes simpler than using the handles.
