I pushed through 7 killings and was extremely satisfied at the end, but you're right it took me weeks between work and life to get through the first 100-150 pages. It does get easier, saying that though I can hear the rhythm of the dialect quite easily as it's the accent my parents have. I would go with SunbeamJess' advice, but if it's going to annoy you not finishing it, maybe just set a limit on how many pages you'll read a day and have other books on the go so you have the satisfaction of finishing other books whilst reading it.
I agree, but it really is a piece you need to balance, so it can probably be a bit too challenging on a stressful morning for someone used to a very neutral and effortless look. I have a lot of clothes in that category and I love to play around with them, but they're never a solution to "fk I have a million things to do and I need to get dressed", they're more a creative outlet and something to set a mood or mindset right up until I get so familiar with them that they just seem to style themselves.
My favorite youtubers talking about books! I was super inspired to read more from watching Jess's book videos. I love seeing how you guys rate the same books similarly/differently on Goodreads!
Lizzy, d'ont give up on the knit! Try to use it with a sweater of the same color underneath, as if is all one piece. I think it will look like the isabel marant thick knit, which style is really similar, but it has the sleeves.
The CeraVe Hydrating Cleanser is amazing if you’re after another simple cleanser. I’ve used the milky jelly and the La Roche-Posay one and the CeraVe is by far my favourite. x
You could layer that Japan jumper over a thinner long sleeve knit of the same colour so it feels continuous and almost one piece if that makes sense? I think it would simplify it so it doesn't feel so statement. I've noticed you are attracted to dramatic pieces in terms of shape or silhouette ( that are wonderful and I totally understand why) but you tend to purge these items sooner rather than later as I think you enjoy the idea and design of it rather than how you feel in it. It's like admiring art in its current environment but not necessarily want it hanging on your walls at home or visiting a city and loving it but not necessarily wanting to live there. These risk items sometimes surprise us though so don't feel too bad for trying it for a while. Lastly I have to say I have really enjoyed your style through 2019 ( especially in and leading up to the Japan trip) more than ever and I think your point of view has never been stronger so I look forward to what comes next. I defiantly think solo travel agrees with you so I can't wait to see more trips in 2020.
i would really recommend giving a brief history of seven killings another go! i read it in one go on a holiday and absolutely loved it. maybe next time you travel take it with you and try again :)
I'm always so impressed by the variety of authors you read. I mean, I know you read a TON so it is to be expected but Roxane Gay, Marlon James, Ta-Nehisi Coates...nice!
I love Jess ! So happy your following her book club! I love the type of content with books critics ! And loved the part about your room too ! It's so pretty !
I feel like there was a stage when everyone was reading it but on the off chance you haven't yet, "Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine" is a really lovely and funny read - very heartwarming too. Also an oldie but a goodie fave is "Vernon God Little" xx
Just had old stuff on in the background and heard you mention Kenneth Cranham... you should treasure that book. He is a very famous actor who has been in a ton of movies (inc Hellraiser) but he originated the part of the Inspector in An Inspector Calls by JB Priestley at the National Theatre and won an Olivier for Best Actor - hence the book being by the same author. It’s an amazing production which tours regularly. You should try to see it when the theatres open again. But despite it belonging to your dad, that’s a special book to treasure!
Re you're sleeveless jumper from Japan - why don't you (or a knitter who you know) knit some sleeves and add them. Given the overhang of the shoulders it should work and will create a drop sleeve jumper. Just a thought.....
Lizzy Hadfield Thats great. I'm pleased you're not giving up on it as it has happy memories for you of you're solo trip. Before you go ahead you might want to have a look at a site I've just come across '40+ sweater outfit ideas' by Red Fashion Chic as it shows a possible alternative to just stitching the sleeves to the edge of the armhole rib. If you view 1.29 and 3.23mins in to the Vlog you'll see jumpers that have the sleeves set in under the armhole rib which gives a ridge effect instead. It might not be something you like but worth a look before you go ahead. Looking forward to seeing how it turns out.
P.s. your Cat is Dead is a super surprising and enjoyable read. Dark humour with a surprising lightness and some laughing out loud. I would highly recommend it! It’s also not a long read if you’re looking to get through something quick. I was hooked after the first chapter!
Also I’m currently reading ‘I capture the castle’ by Dodie Smith which if you read the summary would seem a bit meh but the writing is witty and funny and charming and just absolutely great, I knew from the first page where she describes herself sitting with her feet in the kitchen sink that I’d enjoy it and it makes me smile when I read the sillyness that spews from the main characters brain x
Star Lumsden I’m hardly finished the first section and I can already tell I’m going to feel the same way. Is it weird that in some of the thoughts she writes down or things she describes she actually makes me think of Lizzys humor? Haha
After I saw the sleeveless jumper you bought in Japan I thrifted a grandpa sweater vest which I was unsure of at first too. I've loved styling it the last week or so and got a lot of inspiration by looking at "sweater vest outfits" on pinterest. Maybe try to look there for some inspo but don't give up yet!
Seven Killings is one of the best things I've ever read, it's like a Dickensian classic you have to be sort of aware of that, marlon is unbelievable and he does not dumb anything down lol
Just turn the books the other way round so the pages face you instead of the spine. Hard to see which is which book but makes things look calmer. Or make covers for the books with white paper.
YES! I was thinking if you have a tailor take in the shoulders so that it's sleeveless, then it would be perfect! Try that! (Coming from a book loving stylist.)
I definitely think save Brief History of Seven Killings! I think it is hard to read in small chunks of time. I read it in a marathon two days, which really worked, and it's well worth it, I think!
Hey lovie! :) what a shame you are not feeling it with the sleeveless jumper! It looks absolutely beautiful on you and it is a great/unique piece to have!! Can't wait to see some footage from your new camera!! xx
Love your work! As a heads up there was a looming brown spot on the lens of the vlogging camera that comes up often behind a white background, maybe its dirt or something. Thought you should know!
I’d recommend the book “How to Travel With a Salmon” by Umberto Eco as a funny easy read. He had such a gift with words and must have been a brilliant professor of semiotics.
Just wanted to say how much I'm enjoying your content Lizzie! Loved your Japan vlogs & photography on your blog, your book chats and your video on camera types. Wanted to recommend Matt Haig's fiction if you're looking for something funny and lighter. We must have similar skin types, as I use toleraine and avene recovery cream. I have also recently (Dec), started using Futuredew by Glossier and have found my daytime redness reduced. Not sure if it's the jojoba oil or rosehip oil, but going to try jojoba oil at night to see if it helps.
You should read Where the Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens. I think you would love it! It's like a coming of age about a girl who grows up alone in the marsh on the coast of North Carolina in the 60s. + love story + murder mystery + nature guide
Maybe you already know her but look up Vanellimelli work here on youtube! She's from berlin and does a lot of camcorder/film videos, they are quite aesthatically pleasing! Quite vintage-y looking and very creative. Also the sleeveless knit looks good on you! You could ask brittany bathgate for how to wear it? I reckon it's really her style
Love the blog. Especially the humour- so dry, I love it. An aside: I think your lens may needs little clean, there’s a little dark dot on it. I hate cleaning my lenses!
For the under bed book shelf: try to turn your books the other way round so you see the paper side instead. That might give you the colour coordinaton you are after?
Such a cool room but i think you should switch the positions of your mirror and drawers, it makes more sense to have your mirror closest to the door :)
What about somewhere like Reiss or LK Bennett...? maybe a slightly older demographic but they're simple basics like plain suit trousers should be quite versatile?
For a lighthearted but still intellectually stimulating book I rec Less by Andrew Greer, it’s one of the few books that *actually* made me laugh out loud.
I was wondering if maybe, now that you're deeply into reading, you could try read more classics from maybe russian or italian litterature I don't know much about it but I feel like before reading more modern stuff, it's nice to know the basics (see what I did there :D ... lol). Also my skin hasn't been great after xmas it's deffo the eating & resting that I did lots of...
I may have missed it in a previous vlog, but have you shared your top 5 or even 10 ( cause you seem to read a lot!) favourite books? Would love to hear your opinion. I have purchased a few based on your recommendation and have loved them. Loved Educated by the way! Thanks
Marlon James just isn't a pick up put down type author. I immediately thought of Jess when you said the title and yeah, you need to be prepared to work for it with that style of writing. Maybe let the book do a comeback when you're in the right headspace for it. Maybe this just isn't the time. Same goes for the knitted vest/jumper from Japan, it's beautiful. It needs balance and a new perspective, so maybe try with a wide leg type of trousers shoved into boots, or radical idea here - perhaps a skirt? Nothing figure hugging immediately after the hem of the knit.
Hi lovey. I’ve recommended it to you before but I know you’d love Bill Bryson A Walk in the Woods. He’s the only author who can actually make me laugh out loud.
I recently read two books by James Baldwin - Giovanni's Room and If Beale Street could talk. I LOVED Giovannis Room. Would highly recommend! One of my favorites is also Mephisto by Klaus Mann, but its not really lighthearted and I don't know if there are good english translations (I read it in german) :)
Check out Hope Sthlm, best tailoring in Sweden. Think I have like 3-4 pairs from them. All amazing. Maybe try the jumper with just a T-shirt? One of my friends have something similar and she just pairs it with a withe tee and jeans and like a blazer over.
You look amazing in that jumper (if i saw you on the street, I'd try to sneak a picture of your outfit for style inspiration!), but hey-- if you really don't want it i will buy it from you in a heartbeat! 💜💜💜💜
I had to start Seven Killings over at least 5 times before I ultimately ended up finishing it; it took me months. I would say its worth it but I don't know if I would recommend reading it on holiday, its so heavy and depressing.
I think it would be good for the mirror to have a bit more space from the wall on the side. No need to have in the center between the wall and the dresser, but a tiny bit more breathing room. Sorry, this is very specific, and weird I guess haha! But, I think it would look even better with a few more cenimeters from the wall, more breathing room. :) As usual, LOVE your content!
Possibly you have answered this somewhere before but how is the public library run in the UK. I am from US and it is outstanding but I notice that all the UK vloggers I follow purchase books.
It's funny because it wouldn't even enter my head to use the library (I have one about 5 minutes away from me too, I've never even been inside), I don't know a single person who uses libraries. Except students (took out a lot of books from my uni library when I was studying). I'm not sure why there isn't a culture of using the library (at least not in London) - for my personally I like to keep all the books I read as im rarely disappointed by what I buy and I definitely re-read my books 💕
Hmmm... the sweater... i feel you. Maybe short sleeves, even a t-shirt underneath? And maybe a little longer so it peeks out the bottom of the sweater...
Hey Lizzy - Re your skin issues. I'm hoping this info will help - I got a Stylepro automatic brush cleaner for xmas. I've not used it yet as I needed to purchase a bottle of the cleanser to go with it. After googling, I discovered this video by beauty expert Nadine Baggott on this gadget and how it has transformed her skin! Basically, the bacteria in her brushes was causing her skin issues! I remember you saying a while back that you hadn't cleaned your brush for a while (aren't we all guilty of that!). Might be worth checking out the vid and gadget (just search on RUclips for Nadine Baggott 'Game Changing Makeup Brush Cleaner') I hope this helps x
If you Google "ニットベスト" or look that up on IG, you might find some Japanese styling inspiration! Something like this, maybe? store.world.co.jp/brand/ozoc/item/BRP0419F0018 As for books "Convenience Store Woman" is kind of fun and absurd, and a very quick read. I've also been recommended "Priest Daddy", which I've got waiting for me after I finish some of my heavier books.
omg sorry to be contrary but i love how that sleeveless knit looks on you! if i was your height i would offer to take it off your hands haha x lovely vid as always
Marlon James' A Brief History of Seven Killings is SOOOOO GOOD! Definitely stick with it! I loved it a few summers ago. Helped me escape a down period in my life. Even though it is heavy, it got my mind racing about geopolitics, namely the US' Cold War efforts fought in Latin America. It's worth the read.
Re: lighthearted/funny books I would recommend James acaster’s books - classic scrapes and perfect sound whatever; the crazy rich asians trilogy; anything by Kathy Lette (I love courting trouble) and if all else fails try the Georgia Nicolson series - idc if they’re “teen” books I reread them last year (I’m 24 for reference) and I still cackled.
Curvy grip!? I have never heard them called that! Haha we call them bobby pins in Aus which is prob weird to you guys in the UK! Learn something new everyday 😂

Aw such a shame that you’re not feeling that sleeveless jumper you got in Japan, I think it’s lovely and you look so good in it! 😍 xx
No , really, it’s not her style at all. Maybe a a member of ABBA in a 1973 Christmas single.
I think it looks very very nice, wish I had it,.
I feel it's very brittany bathgate lol maybe she could give it tp her
The sleeveless jumper looks absolutely gorgeous on you! x
My favorite youtubers talking about books! I was super inspired to read more from watching Jess's book videos. I love seeing how you guys rate the same books similarly/differently on Goodreads!
Lizzy & Jess is a collab I can get behind!
Alice Porter imagine if they did a little book video together, the dream!
What is Jess’ RUclips channel called?
Lily Boniface sunbeamsjess !

D Elliott this is such a perceptive concept. I think you are entirely correct on all fronts. I do something similar with my own fashion choices!
I think it would look super cool with a skin tight turtle (roll?) neck underneath and black/blue jeans? Or a long dress.
i would really recommend giving a brief history of seven killings another go! i read it in one go on a holiday and absolutely loved it. maybe next time you travel take it with you and try again :)

Also reading Girl, Woman, Other and LOVE it!!! Oh... and thanks for the la redoute drawers inspo - they're easy to build and a pleasure to use!
Your hair has grown soo fast. Go jaw length this style suits you so well. 🙎🏼♀️
"Gosh my name is so shit compared to that" HAHAHAHA this is me every time I see other people's names.
OMG You and SunbeamsJess are my faves!!! Such amazing ladies, so polite, clever and eloquent!
I feel like there was a stage when everyone was reading it but on the off chance you haven't yet, "Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine" is a really lovely and funny read - very heartwarming too. Also an oldie but a goodie fave is "Vernon God Little" xx

I would love a neighborhood guide from you as you develop more of your favorite places in Shoreditch and such.

Jean Tinsley great idea , I can add sleeves for you Lizzy- I’m a hand knit designer www.etsy.com/uk/shop/ileaiye
I just suggested something similar...I was thinking the same thing👍
yesss I am going to try this and not give up on this! xx
@@rotimi16 Oh wow this would be great - do you have an email I can reach you on?? xx

Could you do a jewellery collection video ? Your vlogs are so calming, also enjoying season 2 of the podcast.
Thanks Lizzy
Hey lovie! :) what a shame you are not feeling it with the sleeveless jumper! It looks absolutely beautiful on you and it is a great/unique piece to have!! Can't wait to see some footage from your new camera!! xx
Just found your channel and am loving it! What color nail polish do you wear? They always looks so clean and minimalistic, love it!

You should read Where the Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens. I think you would love it! It's like a coming of age about a girl who grows up alone in the marsh on the coast of North Carolina in the 60s. + love story + murder mystery + nature guide

Your videos truly brighten up my day ❤️
Love the blog.
The jumper would look super groovy with a thin brown and gold belt and tight pants! You can rock anything girl x
Hey you should roll your knit wear and stack it like logs honestly so much easier and you can still see what's what.
Such a cool room but i think you should switch the positions of your mirror and drawers, it makes more sense to have your mirror closest to the door :)
I’d love to see a video about travel gear you use and recommend as well as a review on your Rimowa suitcase.
Mareeen14 oooo I’ve been eyeing this up, may have to get it eeee
I literally started this book this morning and was about to recommend it! I’m so into it
I was wondering if maybe, now that you're deeply into reading, you could try read more classics from maybe russian or italian litterature I don't know much about it but I feel like before reading more modern stuff, it's nice to know the basics (see what I did there :D ... lol). Maybe try the sleevles knit with a skinny turtleneck under to Play more with the shape and maybe tucking it in?
How about trousers from Filippa K? I had the "cool wool" one for work for ages and loved it! (and lost it somehow -.-)
Yeahhh a vlog, thank you 🙏🏻
Thanks Lizzy. Toteme? Not sure if you kept the ones you showed in a recent video? X
I like the vest jumper!
I have sensitive skin too! How do you wash your face though? Do you use any microfibre cloths?
You may want to try the book of night women by marlon James and see if it's up your street as it's much shorter x
I gave up on it too and I did it on audiobook. I just finished a book 📚 I think you would like “Africaville by Jeffrey Colvin.
That Japanese diary is the English version of the Hobonichi Techo. You can buy it online!
Love your style! ... Where is your thick chain necklace from (the one you've got on when walking to BG tube station)? Thanks
Hi lovey. I’ve recommended it to you before but I know you’d love Bill Bryson A Walk in the Woods. He’s the only author who can actually make me laugh out loud.
You could do Filippa K! Got a pair from them and they are soooo nice so far
I recently read two books by James Baldwin - Giovanni's Room and If Beale Street could talk. I LOVED Giovannis Room. Would highly recommend! What about Reiss or Jigsaw for the in between trousers? I think I've seen styles from them between £120-£160
The earrings you are wearing in the beginning of the blog. Where are they from? Love the book reviews. I am reading “Demons” by Fyodor Dostoevsky.
Yes please 🙂 12:17
12:10 yes, please I want to know it too 🙂
You look amazing in that jumper (if i saw you on the street, I'd try to sneak a picture of your outfit for style inspiration!), but hey-- if you really don't want it i will buy it from you in a heartbeat! 💜💜💜💜
Ooooooo love your room love the cam!!!!!
Could you add a link to the necklace you're wearing in this video. Its lovely. Thanks.
I want to know this too!
it’s all blues a Scandinavian brand, you can find them in Liberty and online too. However £260 for gold plated isn’t really worth it imo
@@_giraffed Thanks!
I'm going to London in about four weeks! We are staying in Shoreditch, do you maybe have some hotspots? :)
So happiness to meet you by Karin Esterhammer will put a smile on your face!!! :)
I had to start Seven Killings over at least 5 times before I ultimately ended up finishing it; it took me months. I would say its worth it but I don't know if I would recommend reading it on holiday, its so heavy and depressing.
Currently reading crime & punishment. Really good!
Hi Lizzy, where is the chain necklace from ?
How do you not knock your AirPods out when you are putting your hair behind your ears 👂
Everything I know about Love - Dolly Alderton...on the off chance you haven't read it already! x

You might enjoy the film The Gleaners & I by Agnes Varda - uses a similar type of camera but also it’s a beautiful film
I watched that michael hutchence doc, so sad..but so interesting x
Book recommendation: My Sister the Serial Killer. Super quick read but highly entertaining.
Hmmm... the sweater... i feel you. Maybe short sleeves, even a t-shirt underneath? And maybe a little longer so it peeks out the bottom of the sweater...
Been trying to purchase that gorgeous chest of drawers from la redoute not sure they deliver to Australia
Something like this, maybe? store.world.co.jp/brand/ozoc/item/BRP0419F0018
As for books "Convenience Store Woman" is kind of fun and absurd, and a very quick read. I've also been recommended "Priest Daddy", which I've got waiting for me after I finish some of my heavier books.
21:35 Where is the jumper form? Love the video as usual hun!

Check tiger of Sweden, my boyfriend is a big fan of their suits, really nice material and morden cut.

Hi random question but what shampoo do you use? x
omg sorry to be contrary but i love how that sleeveless knit looks on you! if i was your height i would offer to take it off your hands haha x lovely vid as always
I agree!its such a good look for her and I just brought a similar one to copy this look
Agreed! I love it! IF if it ever shows up on Depop, I may try to pounce on it.
Everlane for the trousers please!
