I think that he saw Wendy as a come up from the moment he met her and she was so blind that she did not see it. She was already in radio and was going places. I believe that she could have had a successful show without him, but he was her husband and she wanted to include him in what she was doing and made him executive producer of the show.
I believe he saw her as a come-up, too. He may have loved (or had love for) Wendy at one point, but was never in love with her, because he's been holding on to Sharina for 15 years. The fact that when she first caught him with Sharina and offered to divorce then, is where Wendy messed up.

Someone who loves you would always make a effort for you and the relationship but sometimes God tries to move people and things out of our way that we think we wanted or deserve to make room for the person who is truly needed and sent by him. I’m praying for you sweetheart, heartbreak isn’t easy but sometimes those lessons are necessary.

At the time, neither Kelvin nor Wendy wanted to do it because she was still doing radio. Later, after the show was a success, Chris Rock came on the show and he and Wendy discussed how he had envisioned the whole thing and congratulated her again for her success.
