    When Pau puts down her drumstick and plays the song with one hand, just so she can add some hand sass while she tells their critics off, has got to be one of the greatest moments in drumming ever. Pau is a killer. I can't wait for someone eles to piss her off. Pissed Pau is best Pau.

    The vast majority of Mexican people who learn about The Warning or listen to their music for the first time, love them and support them. This song was directed to a very tiny segment of critics. I don't want people to get the wrong idea that people here in Mexico don't support these extremely talented ladies. All their early success playing live was touring around Mexico playing in front of mexican audiences, and their largest concerts as headliners have been here in Mexico too.

    This, the “primera vez ” of this song is great. I’m learning Spanish and had to come up with a topic for an oral presentation. I chose to talk about discovering the word “malinchista” through this tune. There is an incredibly interesting story there, that starts about 504 years ago.

    • @EllaSilentDragon
      @EllaSilentDragon 11 месяцев назад +4

      What does malinchista mean? 😅
      I‘ve never learned Spanish. But if there are Spanish subtitles I tend to understand lots of what is said, because I understand Italian (more or less) - and the languages are similar.
      But with this song I‘m lost. 😅
      What is it about?
      @Daniel: You choose great music to react to. Love that! ❤😊

    • @justinatest9456
      @justinatest9456 11 месяцев назад +9

      @@EllaSilentDragon La Malinche was an Aztec woman who betrayed her people and aided the Spanish conquest of the Aztec Empire.
      Malinchista is an insult levelled at someone who is considered a cultural traitor, someone who prefers American culture over their own Mexican culture.
      Pau wrote this song at the age of 17 in response to critics who attacked the girls with these sorts of accusations, because they write their songs in English.
      This was their first song written in Spanish. And this performance was the debut of the song, in their hometown.

      @@EllaSilentDragon Malinche was not an Aztec woman. She was a member of a non-Aztec indigenous culture on the Caribbean coast of Central America. She was one of 20 women “given” to the Spanish Conquistador, Hernan Cortez, upon his arrival in 1519. The Aztecs were constant raiders of hers, and other communities on the coast. She spoke the local language, as well as Nahuatl, the language of the Aztecs. She quickly learned Spanish and helped Cortez negotiate agreements with the other local communities to support him against the Aztecs. Cortes only had about 800 conquistadors when he arrived at Tenochtitlan ( now. CDMX). But due to Malinche’s skills, he had another 9 -10,000 indigenous soldiers with him. Malinche eventually became the Cortes’s wife and mother to his children. For her role in supporting Cortes and the defeat of Montezuma and the Aztec empire, the word Malinchista was born, meaning traitor, or at least someone who prefers another culture to their own. History seems to have forgotten that she was not Aztec.

    That tightness comes about because they do their own arrangements to figure out how to maximize the impact without overcrowding the mix. That's why they can so effortlessly "switch gears" and why Ale is constantly changing her bass style depending on what Pau and Dany are playing (or not playing). Their co-manager Rudy Joffroy has said he never knows what they are working on until they turn in an arrangement that is basically ready to record.

    If you want to see a different side to the band, back in May they performed a show in London. Originally it was supposed to have taken place 3 years earlier, but a little pandemic got in the way. This show was largely funded as a Kickstarter supporters (I believe) and those who had paid a not-inconsiderable amount got to spend much of the afternoon with the band with a Meet & Greet and also an acoustic set. There was a full gig later in the day, which I was lucky enough to get a ticket for, but the organisers have just released the pro-shot footage of the 35 minute acoustic set from earlier in the day - "The Warning UK Private Acoustic Show". Because it was quite informal you get to see a little more of their personalities and how endearing they all are. The main show, The Warning UK Private Show is probably something for your own enjoyment (as it is nearly an hour and a half) and while it doesn't have the same visuals as the Teatro Metropolitan shows, the audio is pretty good.

    In the beginning, right after she says "Esto es..." you can see her swivel left while she then stomps on the midi pedal that triggers the click track and the background graphics. She runs all the shows with Ableton on her Apple (I think?) laptop, which you can sometimes see when the camera angle's right. You can see it in this video, raised about a foot off the floor to her left. She can even program the light shows, although I don't know if she always runs all the the lights.

    I recommend watching the entire Foro Didi concert. It is has high quality audio / visual, the lighting and camera work are great. For example, there is drum cam nearly on top of the high-hat cymbal, so you get a close-up view of Paulina working the drums while singing. They play the entire Queen of the Murder Scene album, their 2nd studio album, which is a concept album, intermixed with songs from their first album XXI Century Blood.
    I also recommend the Liceo concert from 10 years ago where they perform in front of their school mates. They play songs from their first EP "Escape the Mind", the very first songs they wrote and recorded, and several covers: Crazy Train, Sweet Child O' Mine, Hysteria, and Everlong. Pau performs the song "Escape the Mind" on keyboard.
    You will really enjoy watching the entire Metropolitan concert instead of doing the songs individually. You get the flow of the concert and the connection between the songs as well as the interaction with the crowd between songs, which is all in Spanish as it's in Mexico City.
    CUL8R! 😎👍

      She says something to the effect of this being the first time they play this long live and that there's a lot of emotion in this one, and the song is called Narcisista. At the end Dany asks the crowd if they liked it. For any reactors who may be watching this, please stop doing that. As fans, we click on your videos to watch you watch the video; to see your expressions, to see if you notice our favorite parts of the video, and, to see if you are enjoying a band who we already like, not to spend time chatting with you while you're supposed to be reacting to a video.
